I know it sounds like a book about being an actor, but what caught my attention is she didn't just wait for acting jobs. When she wasn't working she wrote some scripts produced some plays and just stayed involved with other creative people. It definitely worked for Felicia Day. So, I think that same advice might apply and help non-actors who are trying to be writers or producers. Cross-train yourself and do some acting, which can only help and expand your circle of helpful friends.
I'm a huge fan of Big Magic. I'm a musical theatre stage actor but so many of these books do work for any actor wether it's on stage or on camera. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much - if my amazon basket wasn't already full enough then it is now definietly overflowing. I'm starting my gap year and I really want to get back into reading as I havn't read in ages and I really want to know more about the industry.
I feel you on this! What helped me is to check out my local library. I found some books available in person to check out and I love the digital access. Best part is that it's free!
Actually there is a new version of the “1001 movies that you definitely need to watch” (I don’t remember the title ...I’m sorry) and it’s updated to 2007.Great video!
Omg I already have two books that you mentioned 😍🥺 along with others on my list! 🎬📚 I only have eight books about acting 🎭✨ and I’m not a huge reader because I get easily distracted 😝☺️ but once I read my first book about this fabulous industry like I want to learn more and what’s amazing about these books is that it’s basically like an acting class on the go and you can take notes 📝 and go at your own pace! 💕 #ActingBooks
Angie Patterson it’s okay because I just love the feeling of collecting books 📚 filled with my passion ✨ as I can just sit back, relax, take my time, and read at my own pace! 🥰 it’s kinda like the same thing that I do when I get a script from my acting classes from college! 🎬📚 #TheatreArtsMajor 🎭🌟🎒📚
You really an actor...girl you read a lot...but could you help me by breaking down the summary of three great musketeers of acting...i rearly read books..but you made me feel reading books... keep it up the good work lady...
I'd read the new Stanislavski translation by Jean Benedetti. Also, I'd add Michael Chekhov's work as a good alternative to the method. PS both Barbara Houseman's books "How to find your voice" and "How to tackle text (and subtext)" are also gold and often forgotten.
Thank you for this very informative video. That's very interesting. I am doing hospitality, but I feel I could use some advice from these books! Awesome channel and wish you best of luck.
Thank you Angie this list is incredibly helpful I asked a couple of other acting related youtubers if they had a reading list. I expect the comments got over looked. I have just finished reading my first acting book Dee Cannon In Depth Acting. I had found 4 other books that are repeatedly in the top rated books. An Actor Prepares Constantin, Audition Michael , Respect For Acting Uta and Meisner on Acting. Would you say these where good choices to read next?. Or is there other books more relevant to films and shows?..
Hi angie, First of a all thank u for such a useful video, I would love to see more of these! I have been reading acting the first six lessons by richard boleslavsky and its definitely worth reading! It have given me clarity on things which I was not very sure if I am right or wrong... Also if you could do a small summary of any book if would be quite useful as a revision for people who have read it already! Cheers!!
Jenna Fischer's book, The Actor's Life: A Survival Guide, is very inspiring and informative.

I actually preferred the sequel to Uta Hagen’s book called “A Challenge for the Actor”. I found it far more clearer than her first book
Most people whose opinion I respect say the same
