If the police pull you over and you havent got a licence the fine is 1000 baht back at the station or 500 baht if you pay the copper . So always carry a 500 note with you when you ride .
I used to hire the 1000 cc bikes years ago. Not now though. The hirers killed it with their petty scamming. Plus, I used to have to pay a neighbourhood security guard at night to watch over the bike. The hirers had a duplicate key and could steal it back, claiming massive compensation. As with many matters, such as the jet ski scams, Thais kill business with their nasty cheating ways.
Hi mate you might want to fact chq Samui riding conditions it’s one of the most dangerous places in Thailand to ride a bike. Thanks Kent have a beer any time at kiwi
in my opinion riding scooters or bikes in thailand is very different to driving in the uk. firstly learn to relax and not rush so what if you have to wait a little so be it do not rush to overtake etc, and look out for other road users doing things out of the ordinary cutting you up turning suddenly etc, and probably most important reduce your speed , chances are you will be wearing shorts and trainers or worse flip flops(thongs) s o any accident will be skin on tarmac and gravel weather its your fault or someonelse it will hurt, be careful and curtious when driving and try to enjoy the freedom a scooter gives you thanks for sharing cheers
Riding in Pattaya, avoid morning and afternoon rush hour...thais work, hopefully you don't. And late night, early morning, when most drivers are drunk...enjoy.
