    I have been hearing that some people were saying that saying the N word isn't a big deal, but it is. You are not just saying a rude word for African Americans, you are dehumanizing them. I have a personal example from my life. I am obviously not African American, but I am Arab and Muslim, so I do get a lot of rude commentary, and a person tried to throw a fist at me once, but I don't react. I am cowardly when it comes to confrontations, since I am a very timid person. One time I was with a friend of mine when someone was yelling at me to "go back to your country" and other things I will not say in polite company. My friend looked angry but I just told her that its fine and to ignore it, I said "it means nothing" and I kept going. I looked reasonably upset and Joelle, my friend, told me: " I thought you said, it didn't mean anything" I said: " No, I said it means nothing, when people call an Arab a camel jokey or a sock head, they are saying I am worthless, a nothing and the reason for that is because of my background". The same with racial slurs and other negative terms for something you can't control. When someone says the N word they are saying " you are worthless" "you have no value" "You are undeserving of love empathy, and compassion" "you are less than someone else" and its because of the color of your skin, when someone calls a mentally disabled person "retarded" it is the same, when someone calls a Latino the w word it is the same, with someone calls a homosexual the f word it is the same. They are dehumanizing the person and saying they are worthless and because of a reason they could not control. That is why its wrong.

    Greatest thing that happened was the two in black shirts were unable to solicit a violent response. Then second was they hopefully get a false sense of security and try it on the wrong person/group. Best case scenario of course if they have matured and seen how terrible their act was. If not lets hope they catch the right group on the wrong day. I agree with the woman honestly. They obviously showed up with a camera and shirt on, with the intent to start a fight. They probably figured if they could get the people to hit them, they would have it on tape, and they could get a lawsuit out of it or something stupid.
    I agree that they should be allowed to wear whatever they want, but at the same time, they shouldn't be allowed to go somewhere while wearing the shirt, with the obvious intent to start a fight.

    • @TXFDA
      @TXFDA 10 лет назад +3

      harry ballzonya I'm not being a pussy. I just don't think people should be allowed to go to a group of people, and try to start a fight like that. Because if a fight DID start, then it'd be the group that got in trouble and arrested, for simply fighting back.
      It's pretty much real life internet trolling. It's stupid on the internet, and worse in real life.

    • @TXFDA

      harry ballzonya "I also am quite the troll-" Well that explains why you don't have a problem with these people doing what they did then. And why I do.
      You can already be arrested for going to places and trying to start a riot and stuff. They even had something about stuff like that on this youtube channel. So why is this any different? They're purposely trying to start a large fight so they can record it and get them in trouble. It should be something they could get arrested for. Or at least get some kind of fine for.

      DemocRATs subscribe to another philosophy of submission like Islam; Leftist ideology. Accusing men of inciting violence by wearing T-shirts is like Islamists accusing Ana of inciting rape by wearing that dress. The vaunted black race is the Left's Mohammad; a sacred idol held above criticism. When white school girls got death threats for publishing unflattering portraits of blacks, TYT only laughed and mocked the troubled teens who were victims of Leftist child abuse e.g. _"Racist RUclips Rant Forces Girls To Leave High School"_ (RUclips search)
      The girls could have drawn cartoons of Mohmmad and gotten the same reaction from Muslims that they got from TYT Leftist goons e.g.
      *RUclips SEARCH==>>* _"Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks attacked by muslim"_

Neither party should have been arrested for "inciting violence" as that is a violation of the aforementioned 1st Amendment. The mall security does reserve the right to enforce their draconian policies as they see fit. No one should have been arrested, this should never have been a story. The kid complied, reluctantly. Obviously those guys were terrible, but protesting and/or wearing that shirt on a public shirt is protected under the first amendment because it is a public place. Now, a mall is private property, and while I and many other people might not have a problem with the protester wearing that sign, the mall can legally come up with its own rules about conduct on their property and enforce them. There are often cases of people protesting in malls and getting surprised when they are asked to stop or escorted out, since they think that they are protected since they are using political speech. But the mall is private property and can do whatever it wants, silly as it may be.

    • @mattanlurie4362
      @mattanlurie4362 9 лет назад +2

      Slimy Weasles yeah, I hate to say it, but this is a property law issue. The mall is private property, and Protester #1 was asked to vacate the private property and refused, and hence could be arrested, whereas the pro-Trayvon protesters and the FatAssRacists on day #2 were in public, and therefore both sets of parties were protected under First Amendment. Sucks, but you gotta pick your protest site.

    • @tiger490

    • @mattanlurie4362
      @mattanlurie4362 9 лет назад

      Hey John, I'm def. with you in spirit. But legally that's not correct. Even first amendment has certain limitations, (see Schenck v.US), as do all amendments. So protester on day1 had the right to say his message but then the property owner had the right to revoke his permission to be on the *private* property. It's why protesters picket and demonstrate outside of a business not within its offices, out in the public area. Protester 1 actually could have kept going from mall to mall, location to location, and wear his sign, and draw attention to his worthy message. But when asked to leave private property that is the property owner's rights too.

    • @wilstrickland7401
      @wilstrickland7401 9 лет назад +1

      John Craig Sorry man, but those "property laws" ARE your rights. You don't have a right to do whatever the hell you want wherever the hell you want to. If the people who own the mall don't want you there, that's it. Nothing to be done. Go on the sidewalk and exercise YOUR rights without violating someone else's. Imagine if you had an open-house or something and some guy just came in and stood in your kitchen with a sign. Don't you have the right to kick him out? That may seem like an extreme example, but it really is the same thing ideologically. There are people who own that mall property just as you might own a house, and they can absolutely control what people are allowed to do there.
      Private property rights are easily among the MOST important rights we have in this country, and we need to be careful about ignoring them.

      copen hagen it's funny how those same property rights can be revoked by city/state government whenever a new development needs that property, i.e. emminent domain, etc.

    Both shirts say something important. It is too bad that you are only attacking the white guy. Are you in favor of racism against white people?
    I am sure you are in favor of having a conversation about race. Does that conversation involve letting white people say anything?
    The white guy's shirt was a clear example of how there is racism in America. Black people can say a word that white people can't. That is an impingement on the freedom to speak.
    I know you don't think the freedom to speak is important for your enemies, but what if the freedom to speak was taken away by them and not you? How would you feel if you were not allowed to ever criticize white people? Straight people? Men?
    I bet you would be pissed about it.
    Let the man speak. Let his ideas fail if they are bad ones.
    It is more important than you think

    The shirt is an interesting commentary on the silliness of words and peoples' reaction to them. It also speaks to the silliness of the culture in which certain people can say certain words but others can't. If you're black, you can say the N-word, if you're white, you can't? Sounds like separate and unequal to me, brought by the same mentality that brought us the back of the bus and separate drinking fountains.

    • @Av1on1cs

      Let me try to explain this to you. It's about the power dynamics. As a male making 'jokes' about women in a male dominated environment can make the females present feel vulnerable. This is even when you ignore the intent, benign or otherwise. A white male using the N-word, knowing the structural inequities facing minorities can be injurious too. This creates an atmosphere of disenfranchisement with all the corollary effects that has.

The wisdom of "sticks and stones may break my bones but names can never hurt me" was once taught to youngsters and most people above the age of 12 have learned that. Nobody can take away your peace if you don't let them. Of course it is true that we should love our neighbor as ourselves, but those who don't lose out on the wonderful benefit of doing so.

    I am mixed race, and have multiple conflicting views on the Trayvon case. but Honestly, this is just dumb. It should not be news. Wearing the sign, I can see the point about free speech, but if wearing a hoodie is prohibited by their rules, then that's that. They can deny service to whomever they like, that is freedom too. If they don't agree with his political statement they can deny him service, yet thats not even what they are doing, they are enforcing a rule on the premises.
    Why are hoodies and other face obscuring clothes prohibited? Because then the Camera's don't catch your face when your thieving. Simple as that. This is not news.

    • @redrath2
      @redrath2 11 лет назад +1

      I am going to give an extreme example...I am wearing a balaclava...or perhaps carrying a gun...both of those are prohibited by the rules of most malls. You are telling me, if I have some political sign strapped around my neck that I can go ahead and carry that gun and wear that mask in the mall? and the police are not going to have words with me? I don't buy it.
      Plus, that argument does not negate the fact that this is not news. Trayvon martin is not news. Even if he was not a thug who was on drugs, he is not a martyr he is a disgrace to his race (By that I mean humans) I sincerely hope when our alien overlords arrive they don't find this nonsense in our records. There are thousands of little black kids all over the USA who die young for no other reason than being in the wrong place at the wrong time, completely innocent.
      Trayvon may not have deserved to die. But lets not make him out to be some sort of martyr he embodied the worst in people in both life and death. Let him go.

      Ross Barn I think you are missing the point. No words should be banned. Any word or insult should be the same regardless of who says it. No word or insult should carry more power because of who spoke it. We should not excuse the use of certain words based on race. It should not be ok for one group to use a word and not ok for another group. That is the point. That is the true racist world view.

      UtherPendragan There is this weird phenomenon where some young white teens are calling each other "n***a" in an un-ironic brotherly way nowadays. Where as it used to be something you would only hear 2 black people say to eachother. Its kind of brilliant because it diminishes the power the word has on people. Mall security has the power to conduct a citizen's arrest until police arrive in response to a crime. Violating a mall rule is not a crime. Staying in the mall if you were asked to leave by a person designated with that authority is trespassing. But, if the person was not told to leave and clearly violated no laws then detaining them as a private citizen (including security guards) is illegal. A law enforcement officer can detain very briefly for investigation but if no reasonable suspicion or evidence of a crime is present then an arrest would be unlawful.

    I was in total disagreement with Cenk until they mentioned about attacking the Westboro Baptist Church, he's showing some totally distorted view of America just because it's supossed to be the ''Free'' country, the land of Freedom. This isn't about the shirts but in the situation that the guys we're planning to get involved with them, they obviously expected to get attacked, but they totally should have been arrested, 100%, because they ran into a ''black'' crowd, it's like wearing a Ku Klux Klan robe in a black neighborhood, "Your freedom ends where my freedom begins". And of course, you can wear that (indirectly) racist shirt everywhere you want, but if a stranger decides to punch you (or ignore you) he has the total freedom to do it because you just gave it to him, in short words, the 2 guys should have been arrested in that case, but if you want to walk in a street with a shirt like that you better be prepared (or not).

    Malls are private property and routinely deny free speech which is their legal right (no doubt the reason the protest 2 days later was off the mall property). As more and more of the country is privatized it makes meaningful free speech more and more difficult. 16davelle UNTRUE. The mall has a code of conduct. 1st Amendment argument applies to GOVERNMENTS. If he wanted to protest OUTSIDE he was welcome to do so but inside, no go.

  • @GreenmanDave

    The first amendment protects us from persecution by the government, not from being dejected from a mall. The company that owns the mall and the security force employed by that company reserves the right to remove from and deny entry to the mall anyone they please for whatever reason. In the same manner, McDonald's can refuse service at will. If the gentleman wishes to protest anything he can do so on the sidewalk (public property), not in the mall (private property) without permission from said mall.

    This rule is kind of stupid, but it didn't violate his first amendment rights because the mall is private property. If someone is saying or doing something that you don't approve of on your property you can ask them to a) stop or b) leave your property. If they don't you can charge them with trespassing which is probably what this man got charged with.

    I think that they need to cite the exact reason that the man at the mall was arrested. Most likely he was arrested for criminal trespass. The mall has the right to tell him to remove the shirt and sign because it violates their policies. If he refuses then they could tell him to leave. If he refuses to leave then he is criminally trespassing. Does this violate he first amendment rights? Nope. Why? Because the first amendment protects you from the government telling you what you can and cannot say. It has no bearing on private parties and their private property. Now if he was standing on a public sidewalk it would be a different story.

    The policy of no hoodies is pretty stupid, but whether it's stupid is of no consequence. If they tell you to take off a sign or not wear the outfit on their property, they can do that. People often misunderstand what freedom of speech entails; it only protects you against government coercion, not the rules,regulations of a private establishment. I cannot go into many restaurants wearing sandals. Doesn't mean they are violating my freedom of expression.

    I think the difference is the people with the racial slurs were OUTSIDE the mall, while the guy with the sign was INSIDE the mall which is private property.

    The more America shows its true colours the more the rest of the world can see the truth. And that is the best thing that could happen to this planet.

    The first amendment only says congress can't pass any laws regarding freedom of speech. This doesn't apply to private property.

    There is one issue and im not saying that he targeted because he was a black kid, but by the sounds of it he was inside the mall. While the public is allowed in the mall its not public property and you don't have the right protest or solicitation in the mall. If they let him in with his sign they can not stop companies form hiring people to walk around the mall with signs selling their product. If the mall security ask you to leave you have no right to stay and can be arrested for trespassing.

    A mall is private property. You have to leave when you're told to. You can deal with the reasons after you leave. That's how the real world works

    Its perfectly reasonable to both sell hoodies and expect people not to cover their faces with them inside the mall. I suspect the mall also sell motorbike crash helmets but I am sure they wouldn't let you wear those either.
