    Love watching Gary work on the ZF6HP's. I need my ZF6HP19 or 21 fixed/rebuilt, and I wish I knew how to find someone near me who is as knowledgeable as Gary.

      @GaryFerraro Do you have any suggestions on how to find a competent local transmission shop to work on a ZF transmission? I spoke with some local ones who said they’ve worked on ZF transmissions before, but I wasn’t instilled with confidence, and was quoted between $5000-$6500. Is that in the ballpark, high or low, for the level of detail you put into your work?

    Hey Gary,
    I hope you are doing well and business is good in NY!
    I’m in a pickle and dead end with a ZF6HP26 (X) box in a LR3 v8. You have given me some advice in the past that helped greatly!
    But again - here we are.
    Okay, some background.
    ZF6HP26 box with 280k KM on it.
    At 278,000 the following was replaced as part of a rebuild;
    New Clutches
    New Bushings
    New Seals and piston rings
    New ZF Solenoids
    TCC was also rebuilt with new clutches
    New dampers
    New separator plate
    Filled with Lifeguard 6
    New ZF Pan and filter (plastic)
    Adaptations Cleared
    Firmware upgraded
    On-road adaptations completed as per LR bulletin
    Box drove beautifully for the next 2000 odd KM’s
    After a trip of about 350km, the car drove still perfectly. Stopped at a gas station, and switched off. After starting the vehicle, drove about 200 meters, shifting into 2 and 3 - then locked up as if the brakes were applied, and the Transmission went into Limp Mode (F code).
    Switched off, on again, selected reverse and immediately went into limp mode (F code) while stationary. The code reader connected, and the following 2 codes were stored:
    P0736-00 Reverse Gear incorrect Ratio
    P0783-00 3-4 Upshift
    My initial thoughts were - perhaps oil level is a problem. Checked oil level at 40 degrees C and perfectly trickles out. So not that.
    Troubleshooting done thus far (before opening again ☹):
    -Adaptations cleared
    - Flashed Firmware
    - Visually inspected for any leaks, none
    - Visually inspected for any ground shorts, or harness damage, none found
    I’m not sure where to start looking for the problem.
    With your mountain of experience on these, what’s your advise on going forward? Are Gears 3/4 and reverse connected?

    Thank you so much for making a video about this one! The 6HP26 variant (I guess I have) in my 2006 Cayenne S is a really nice trans, so I was curious what they were like inside. Nothing to not like I guess!

    • @tptrsn
      @tptrsn 3 месяца назад

      @@GaryFerraro I can't say it is for sure correct, and of course Porsche has a different numbering system to identify their version of the trans, and it is tagged as an Aisin AW TR-60SN, with the number above that line starting with "09D". When googling 6HP26 applications, it came up with the year range for my 2004-2010 Cayenne, and the VW Touareg as using an 6HP26X, indicating external 4WD application. I'm confused by it all. I figured it was a 6HP26 variant made by Aisin under license from ZF or something...

      @@GaryFerraro The cayenne drivetrain is basically a conventional longitudinal engine into a transmission with a transfer case on the back of it that sends the drive forward to a front differential. Hello Gary, amazing videos, I have a Jaguar s-type with a Zf6hp26, it has gear ratio codes, and car does not move in any gear. I tried to change fluid but it won't take 2nd take of fluid when you fill while engine is running, only took initial 3 quarts. Is this a sign of a broken oil pump or clogged damage valve body, also removed oil cooler lines and no oil comes out when car is started.

    Hello Gary, this question is off topic but have you ever had a 6r80e or a 6r140e make a weird noise when it shifts into 4th gear? I've got both Transmissions making the exact same noise before and after overhauling them. Noise was there on 6r80e before overhauling. And when you hit passing gear from 5th to 4th it really is evident.

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  3 месяца назад

      You Probably hear a clutch squawk. Get some Motorcraft Posi additive and put that into the transmission and noise will be gone

      @GaryFerraro I've never heard this before on any transmission and I've been in the industry since 1990. Crazy thing is I've got all brand new friction plates in this unit even though all the original ones were not burnt at all. And use ford merconlv fluid. But I'm pulling my hair out on these two units. I'll try the additive and see what happens tomorrow and let you know.

    Gary, could you link the bushing kit that you install in these transmissions? How do they compare to the Sonnax brand kit? Also, are there any clutches that you install for a mild power upgrade? (I have a deleted and tuned M57 diesel, and I need a rebuild, and I'd like to upgrade the clutches a bit).
    Also, if I have a 4F85 code, do you think a rebuild of the valve body and replacement of the solenoids and bridge/solenoid seals could successfully delay a rebuild?
    Thank you!

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  3 месяца назад +2

      It may or may not. The valvebody would be rebuilt anyway so you can always start with that and if same problem just continue and do the trans. Bushing kit that i use is DB95030. I like this kit better than the sonnax kit. This is by a company called DuraBond . If you have problems finding it i can probably help you

      @@GaryFerraro thank you. I'm finding Durabond kits on eBay for around $150.
      The valve body rebuild did not alleviate it, so I will be rebuilding my 6HP-28X. Do you have any friction upgrades that you use when rebuilding? Or do you simply use ZF frictions? I am seeing Raybestos friction kits, as well. Do you have any suggestions for frictions, and if you do, could you link me to some that fit the 6HP-28X?
