God bless you and your ministry. Its great to hear a biblical sermon on the tithing abuse taught today in the majority of churches. Tithing is a bondage doctrine taught by teachers subjugating their followers into bondage.

Thank you brother for preaching the the truth on this. I quit tithing many years ago. But, I do give to those in need in my Christian family. Also, I firmly believe that giving is more than just dollars and decimal points, but giving of one's time and talents is also very precious. God bless you!

oh no you didn't! Talents??? WHAT, you mean sharing of knowledge and skills, NEVER. If I teach a man to fish I feed him for a life time, but if I only give a man a fish I keep him dependent on me for ever. That way I can power over him all his life and manipulate him to my will.
The "Store House" was for Temple duties "that there may be meat in mine house"
Malachi is a reprimand to the Levites obligations of their "tenth of the tithe" (or the 3rd&6th year of the 7 year cycle) no one else's!

It is great to see a pastor who is actually honest when it comes to tithing! I have said the same thing for years and seem to always get shot down and made to look bad. Just to add to this. It must hurt the heart of Christ terribly who gave his all to set up free and pay off the debt of the law, and then to have someone say basically or indirectly what Christ did is not enough. You have to give 10% tithes or you are robbing God. That is like saying Jesus only paid 90% of the debt and you are responsible for the other 10%.

So many things wrong with some of these concepts and comments BUT on the actual topic, yes tithing was used in Genesis as a term to render giving. Abraham gave 10% of the spoils of war. Outside of that, Jacob willingly offered. Tithing was never money and was directly given to the Levitical Priesthood. Malachi 3 is so abused by pastors. Malachi 3 was talking to corrupt priests not God's people.

I might say my church same as the other churches putting guilt in the heart of many by not giving your tithes. “If your church can not survive on freewill offerings maybe God is not part of your church at all.” Hence, generating funds in the name of obsolete law (Moses) is denial of Grace. Abraham didnt give tithe from His wealth he gave from the spoils and Melchizedek is the Shadow of Christ, (Plz see Hebrews on the priesthood), neither Abraham tithed daily, weekls, monthly or annually... nor Melchizedek a regular priest with the altars to accept.
I am not a jew to Tithe, not my pastors a Levite of priesthood lineage. I am not physically circumcised, rather circumcised through Christ. So my role on "giving" is from my freewill, that i cannot hold the gratitude unless I am greed, wherefore I am directed by spirit to support any work of "Body of Christ" not limited to my local church.
God shows the need and I am stirred with thankfulness to support in any form of tool Prayer/Money/Workmanship/Labour could be anything.... a stone in a brick is also considered if my status is in such content.
We are fulfilling law through Jesus Christ, so my actions are not directed to obey any law, rather spirit filled actions, that he is the author and finisher of my doings... I cannot claim even a dust from my end to please him from my end.... it is HE who initiated and it is he who finishes...
Important: If I am bound to law, I am cursed, since I reject the Blood Shed by Jesus Christ as Inadequate.
There is no inadequacy in my Saviour Blood for my Salvation, which I need to earn by following the Law.
I am called to fulfill the law through Christ, and He is my all.
Churches, Ministries should be transparent on the projects and tasks in fund raising, once completed not required, and to run the regular congregations.... again to be transparent to accept the offerings as subscriptions.... that to not fixed or compelled....
We often speak about the cheerful giving part but hide the other part of the verse...
must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion
2 Corinthians 9:6-7English Standard Version (ESV) The Cheerful Giver6 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully[a] will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
---Cursed are those who follow the law and who directs others to fall under law... I am under grace and grateful, gratitude on my actions to receive and play my part completely under my Saviors realm.

My son and I just started attending a church since Nov. 2014. I thought we would keep in this fellowship....Until this past Sun.until the son of the pastor(who preaches every Sun Eve service) He USED his verse about ROBBING GOD and then said....You would be better off of ROBBING a BANK if you are going to ROB ....than to ROB GOD !! Can you imagine a spirit filled pastor saying such a thing ? THEN ...he kept saying the congregation was CURSED....like the children were in rebellion and other misfortune happening in marriages, finances....having to have both parents work etc. etc. etc. because of not obeying the tithe !! Offerings...gifts....not giving to the guest speaker for the SPIRITUAL FOOD they got from him by their gift offering to him being none or minimal !! He said we noticed that the FAMILIES that LEFT the Church..STOPPED giving over some time- before they left MY SON Left with FEAR and GUILT an " I " had to explain to HIM that it was an OLD testament bible verse etc etc and EASE HIS Fear & Guilt because if hi gave 10% of his income HE would not have enough to pay his current expenses or FOOD...and He would have to ASK for FOOD from the churches that give FOOD to te POOR in this city. I said to him , " Does that make sense' ? God Bless his servants that tell truth !!!!

Tithing today is used to control the people and fill the greedy pockets of those who defend it. Read the real reason why tithing was brought into church again. When they want to live under the law, they need to obey all 619 rules of that law and not just the rule what suits them. They never read the first chapters from Malachi. Because if so they would see who really was robbing from God, it were the priest themselves. The first verses are saying> This is a prophecy for the nation of Israel. We are not Israel , but Gentiles saved by the Grace of God.

I have studied every Biblical reference to the tithe from Avraham forward, in both Hebrew and Greek. In ancient times if two army's fought a battle on someone jurisdiction the winner paid a tithe of war spoils to the local land owner on which the battle took place. Tithes in ancient Israel were government taxes under the Theocratic Kingdom of Israel. The tribe of Levi was given no land inheritance. They were to be supported by the eleven other tribes to maintain the Temple worship, provide for the poor, etc. The tithes were livestock and agricultural produce which was the main currency of that era.The book of Malachi addressed the eventual corruption within the Levitical Priesthood. The priest were stealing the Lords tithes in the form of livestock and agricultural produce. There is no New Testament command to tithe to anyone. There are only references to freewill offerings as ones conscience leads. The Apostol Paul quotes the O.T. and makes clear a worker must be paid for his work just as an ox must be allowed to eat freely as he treads out the grain. Any church that takes advantage of it members by guilting them into excessively burdensome labor or excessive monetary contributions is worse than an unbeliever.

Why would I subject myself to the law? Instead I give when I'm lead out of cheerful heart. I'm glad I stop giving 10 percent. My furnace broke down and I saved and cashed it out. I would have had to finance for 5 years because I gave all my money away. Take care your family FIRST. Then give when you can. Save for rainy day because it rains on the just and unjust. The law brought me to Christ. Once it did that I became free from the Law. Pastors want to bring gentiles under Jewish laws? I choose to rest in grace by faith in Christ. Those who labor have not entered into the Lord's rest. I marvel that you who were saved by grace subject yourself to the law. If you think giving money by percent is going to make you more wealthy than the guy sitting next to you, you are a simple person. The pudent sees to his going but the simple believe every word. The simple lack understanding. If you labor it is because of your mouth. It is man's reward to work and enjoy fruit that comes from it. These religious leaders refuse to sweat to work so they lie and teach those to give money under the law because they refuse to work. The curse applies to Every man! A man who refused to work should not eat. Pastors should work Monday Friday. Then Sunday pastor church. Most church buildings remain empty after Sunday. For amount of time between services there is no reason they can't hold a part time job. A pastor should eat of carnal things. But I'm sure church today was not what church was like after Jesus raised from the dead. All religion with fancy buildings, projectors, live streams, bands, on and on. Real church was house church. But gentiles turned it into big business..... Multimillionaire ministries. Remember Paul example not to take $$$$$ but to WORK making tents to provide. These pastors should get jobs like normal people do....... I preach gospel but do not profit from it. And I'm not a pastor. So does that mean people should give me money? The Lord commands we preach the gospel. It a command to every believer. Go get a job. And partake in the offerings as reward for your pastor service. Then go-to Work Monday to Friday. You can write your sermon after work. Then the community will see you devoted life of Christ and you may win souls.

When a church enforces the doctrine of tithing, they alienate and ostracize many Christians away from the church AND God. Who wants to go to a church where the pastor calls them a thief? Who wants to go to a church where you feel guilty for not tithing?

God richly bless you sir and your wonderful ministry for sharing his honest, unadulterated and true word. Another fact is that in that famous verses used to persuade people into tithing, God was addressing the priests not the people. They were the ones who were robbing God. They would vow to give something worthy and give something totally different which was unsuitable and insulting to God. Thank you

The book of Malachi was addressing the Israelites and the priest (Chap 1-2) who were under the law of Moses.
Mal 1:1 The oracle of the word of the Lord to Israel by Malachi
Mal 2:1-2 And now, O priests, this command is for you. 2 If you will not listen, if you will not take it to heart to give honor to my name, says the Lord of hosts, then I will send the curse upon you and I will curse your blessings.
Mal 3:12 Then all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a land of delight, says the Lord of hosts.
It is obvious who Malachi is addressing.
The tithing under the law of Moses was food items - not money, was the tenth item - not the first, and is clearly stated as such...
"Every tithe of the herd and flock--every tenth animal that passes under the shepherd's rod--will be holy to the LORD." Leviticus 27:32
"...You give a tenth of your spices--mint, dill and cumin..." Matt 23:23
Some try to use Abram’s tithe of the spoils of war as an example that tithing pre-dates the Mosaic law. But Abram gave the other 90% back to Sodom and there’s no mention that he tithed on his income.
We are saved by grace, not of works...
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." Ephesians 2:8-9
"Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us...” Galatians 3:13
Under the covenant of grace we are not told to tithe but are instructed to give as we have decided in our hearts and not under obligation. But we’re also encouraged to give generously…
“whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2Cor 9 6-7
We are not justified by the law…
"yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified." Galatians 2:16
"Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin." Romans 3:20
"For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it." James 2:10
The Pharisees were keepers of the law but had obviously missed the point. Read Matt 23:23 and you'll see that Jesus isn't giving the accolades for keeping the law, including tithing. Rather, He was chastising them for missing the larger point - to love God and each other. This is made clear in Gal 5:14 'For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”' and also Matthew 22:37-40, Matthew 7:12, Matthew 19:19, John 13:34, Romans 13:8, and ..
"Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law." Romans 13:10.

Malachi 3:8 was specifically targeting the Levites who were taking the tithe from the people and not using the tithe for its intended purpose.
You can clearly see who the writing is directly addressed to. First the people of Israel and of that group, the priests or Levites.
God told the MINISTRY of that time that THEY*the ministry* had not only robbed God but the ENTIRE nation of Israel.
So the ministry misused the tithe and in doing so robbed God and robbed the people that were paying the tithe in the first place.
When Malachi 3:8 is usually taught these days its used to target the people sitting in the pews and NOT used in context which was an indictment against the ministry.

I visited a church and the leader talked for about 15 minutes railing about the tithes. They went on saying how ppl are buying Frigidaire appliances etc but cannot tithe. I was so grieved listening.....for SO LONG! I didn't give anything I planned to give. I gave it to a homeless person on the street after church. I later learned by reading the Bible page by page about the correct principle of tithing and how it was done. I learned how it has been manipulated for personal gain. The Lord will hold us accountable for how we disperse what the Lord has blessed us with. It falls on us to study the word of God and know the truth.

Apostle Peter said, they make merchandise of you- what was he warning us of? is this subject feeding wolves and putting children of God in bondage?

But we cant separate law and grace ,grace came because of sin ,no sin no grace ,no gospel, no Jesus christ ,not mentioned in old testament but when Adam and Eve sinned God allowed them to continue though not in the initial place ,that is grace ,yes we are no longer under the law but the same Paul who says we are no longer under the law says in Rom 6 shall we sin so that grace may abound ,he says No ,the law does not save us but it points sin ,its a like mirror, mirror doesn't remove an dirty on one face but tells you where the dirty is ,same with the law ,it doesn't save us but only the blood of the lamb cleansed us ,salvation is only from Jesus christ not by keeping the law but we are judged by our works According to Rev, we cant separate old and new testament 2 Timothy 3 v16 all scripture was written by the inspiration of God for reproof, rebuke ,correct so that we are perfected for righteousness,

The Tithe Dies in Acts 15.
I do not understand this constant digging up this “Dead Horse” or patching an old wineskin. The tithe is not in or required by the New Covenant we have as Christians. The Church (means “Called Out” assembly, not a building or temple) in Acts 15, this was decided by the Holy Spirit that Gentiles (that is me and all the non-Jews) are not under any of the Old Covenant. We as Christians are to support missions, by example, we are to support an elder that teaches and preaches, Remember that Paul was a tentmaker by trade and supported himself sometimes. We are to support those in need, we are to give not the 10% or the 23% of the actual OT tithe that the Jew is required to give, but to give 100% of our time, money, goods, and life. Generously and freely giving happy to give not under law or rule.
We do a lot of things out of tradition and convenience. The fans like this tactic. The church attender can check that box and move on with their life. Followers know that Jesus does not come by on Sundays to count nickels and noses. Someone will have to explain why we in America have churches on every corner and homeless in the streets, widows no one cares about, orphans without homes, sick with no caregiver and the lost stay lost while we squabble. We have leaders that fleece the flock to promote more programs and buildings to keep rich preachers and their lackeys in positions of power to lead sheep to strange practices that divide the flock.
Jesus called us to be Salt and Light, to take up a cross and follow Him. Wash feet!
If all the fans and sometimes visitors, tire kickers and " fair weather Christians" did not attend or give (and most of these don't give) could your building keep the bills paid? Keep the doors open? If so, You may be a member of a social club not a Church of the New Testament. Love your enemies, forgive them, Love your neighbors, serve them, wash the feet of your brothers and sisters. Luke 14: 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples. “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.
“Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.”

Do most churches replenish their people during their hard times? Why do people keep misquoting scripture by saying "we don't LIVE under the law"...? Romans 6:14 has more to it than just "you are not under law, but under grace."
It starts with "for sin shall no longer be your master...." What Paul was saying was consistent with the rest of Romans: what the law was powerless to do, in that it had no power to stop sin, GRACE DID, because the grace of God enables the believer to stop sinning.
The law is not "done away with" We now have the GRACE to OBEY it.

I've noticed one thing. Every church pastor interprets the bible diffrently in many dogmatic areas, yet each one claims the holy spirit is on him or her to speak the truth and without error. Its funny that the holy spirit is enpowering these pastors to preach differently. It is no wonder there are so many factions of organisised christianity and 30000 to 35000 evanglical churches who prefer to be independent and not be called a protestant church.

    4.
The flow of money or goods within the church should be: From the rich to the poor and needy. NOT: From the laity to the clergy. I believe that even if you are a pastor if you have more you should be the one to give to the member of the church in need that there may be an equality. In the book of Acts when the Church encountered a very difficult situation every one gave according to their will and some even sold their houses and the collections distributed to everyone according to their needs.

    Mario

How true your explanation on tithing. The new churches are forcing people to give quoting scripture to justify, And they are very good in drawing the weak the old and the helpless. But would they tell the people where the money goes. Yes the pastor needs to be provided as the levies. But not for his rich life styles and 15000 square feet mansions. His branded clothing and the super rich hotels they stay in the thousand dollar tips they give. Some don't travels on air lines cos they see the others as demons.

Good teaching. Yet, I still tithe because I enjoy it and want to take full part in the work of the family of God.

IF you want to tithe biblically you will tithe 23 1/3 percent. If you want to give according to Paul, you can give 20, 30, 40 even 50 percent. There is no limit on how much a person can give to the Lord today.

The Holy Spirit announced through Paul the wonderful news that Christ has freed us Christians from the yoke of bondage, which even the Patriarchs were not able to carry - referring to the law, but some people just love to be enslaved again. what's worse, they want us to go back with them.

God Loves a cheerful giver, actually though we as Christian saved by the Grace of God thru Our Lord Jesud Christ can give more that what we are to give to support His body the Church.
