    Cheers to John for requesting such an enduring classic!. I think you might be the first channel to cover this song. It's a shame that most music reactors just copy one another and you see the same songs over and over again. I love hearing so many - mostly 80's - UK classics on this channel!

    • @SirHilaryManfat
      @SirHilaryManfat 2 года назад +6

      There's quite a few reactors on RUclips that will like everything to appease their viewers. If JJ doesn't like something, he'll say. Even if a sub has donated for that choice. It genuinely takes some balls for a reactor to put their income on the line to stay honest. I have so much respect for JJ and this channel, and it deserves so many more subs.

    That's a mute for a trumpet. It has corks so that it'll stay inside the horn and it gives you that jazzy trumpet vibe.

    This band had other big hits, She drives me crazy and Good Thing. Lead singer Roland Gift also acted in movies and TV. His parents were british and afro-caribbean. 🎶🌴

    FYC consisted of guitarist Andy Cox and bassist David Steele, both former members of Ska band The Beat (or known as The English Beat in US and Canada) with vocalist Roland Gift also from a ska band called Akrylykz. One of their most famous songs was "She Drives Me Crazy" in 1988.

    • @pyenapple
      @pyenapple 2 года назад

      The Beat were far more than a ska band. They called themselves a dance band, it was only actually like 35% ska-influenced. Tons of soul, reggae, r&b, rock, dub, some synthpop, some african guitar stuff.

    • @a.k.1740
      @a.k.1740 2 года назад +1

      @@pyenapple I agree that their influences were multiple from the start but a lot of their sound originally was rooted in ska.
      Saw them opening for The Clash on their Radio Clash Tour in the Autumn 1981. Great Memories !!!

      Cox and Steele had also produced several hip-hop beats for british rapper Monie Love.

    I loved this track when I was in my 20’s. Still have the single. Seems like a classic case of a teen arguing with his parents possibly about yearning for the bright lights of the city, then running away from home.

    So glad you listened to this, my favorite of theirs. Everyone does she drives me crazy. That’s a mute on the trumpet to change the tone. I personally love when it’s used. Check out some Chet Baker❤️ (trumpet)/or Chet Faker (Gold)😂has great video.

    An alcoholic father's plea to his runaway son to come back to the family home and especially to his mother who misses him so much. Quite simple, really, but it's sung from an unusual perspective. And beautifully done of course.

    Can't go wrong with FYC. That's mid 80s. But their breakthrough was in 1989 with "She drives me crazy". You literally watching our childhood glad people of your generation go back to memory lane to see what we've jammed onto. My favorite was "I'm not the man I used to be" I'm sure you'd like it.

    It's about a runaway youth who finds the city not to be what he expected. His parents apologise for whatever they had done that made the youth run away in the first place, and implore him to come home.
    If memory serves me correctly, the youth had told his parents he was gay, and they had not accepted it, which resulted in him running away.

      Sort of the reverse of Small Town Boy. Run away/kicked out I mean.
      There's also a mid '70s documentary Johnny go home, about runaway children in London.

    Very jazz/ska influenced … such a great band. I’m not as wild about their breakout hit “She drives me crazy” as I am about songs like Blue, Johnny won’t you come on home, Funny how love is, and their epic cover of Suspicious Minds. Thank you for reacting to this!!! Great reaction!

    Good on you for picking this. It's FYC's best. Forget that "pop" she drives me crazy. That's okay, but was radio friendly. This song sounds like real life, but not exactly kid friendly.

    Its about a child running away never bring heard from again. The parents are realising and regretting how they led to that. They don't know where he is, how he's eating, where he's staying, what hes doing. And now realise they just want him home yet have no way of telling him.
    The dad understands his drinking led him to neglect his son and hates himself and doesn't understand how he came to be that way., the mother us deeply depressed and feels as bad for not being able to protect her son. But it's all too late as they have no way of knowing where he is or what he's doing.
    The song highlights the homeless situation wen there were very few services open to those facing it.
    Many children that ran away were never heard from again. Luckily we are more understanding to.oir children's needs now and if not there are places they can go.if their homes are unsafe
    Although it still happens.
    Thousands of children are missing & never enter any kind of system, (banking, social services housing, hospitals , services for vulnerable people, benefits) they simply disappear. As they need to make money, eat, and live, one has to wonder how they are doung so wothout that help. It's a sad, but all too familiar, story. Especially 30/49 years ago when tjis song came out. 😪 xxb

      Growing up in 70's/80's UK that always puzzled me. Why the American bands didn't mix.
