I swear Teena has to have one of the best voices of any female R&B singers ever! She has to easily be top 5, especially when you consider her recorded songs and live performances. It’s hard to find a live performance that competes with her and Rick James’s “Fire & Desire” live performance on BET… Yes, the one where he said the infamous “I’m Rick James Bitch!!!” Teena was definitely a “1 of 1” and thankfully there are videos to show her singing because if there weren’t, 99 out of 100 people would’ve believed she was Black lol. This woman’s voice could persuade a whale to purchase a bottled water lol. In my opinion, she’s never received the recognition she deserves for creating timeless music. Yes, from the sound of the beat you can pretty much tell when the song was created, but her voice is timeless because it sounds great back then and would be just as great had it been on a song that dropped tomorrow.

I actually wrote a letter to the Rock and Roll HOF, about a month before her passing stating she should be included. I don't know why I did that, just had a bad feeling and thought she should be recognized for contribution to musical arts. RIP Lady T and Big Gerald.

I am a Hispanic in the Alamo City and my siblings think I'm crazy but Teena Marie had me "Since Day One" in 1983 with her Robbery LP ever since then, I begin to purchase her music albums and she easily "robbed" my heart away. I used to think that when Purple Rain came out that she would have been excellent opposite Prince or even the Time at that time because she knew how to work a stage, she was white, she loved sophisticated funk and was electrifying on her guitar .
