$650 a week drivers have to pay - $2600 a month just to be able to drive. Ridiculous
Can you break it down how it turns out $650 a week? I'm getting my tlc license but i started thinking it's not worth it because I've heard they don't issue TLC plates anymore. Is that true?
@@jeffnaval4894 yes no problem brother. After you spend money getting TLC License, unfortunately you cant just drive on your own car. You need to get special TLC FHV License Plate. Right now only way to get this plate is if you get a WAV (wheelchair accesible vehicle). This vehicles cost around 85thousand. There are not many of them, so if you are lucky enough to find a dealer who will not mark you up by a lot that should be the price. Your other option is to get a regular mini van and the go through the process of a conversion, which costs between 15k to 20k. Sometimes more or less. But this process takes more than 1-2 months. 3 months average, or 10 weeks. And you have to pay upfront. For most drivers these are not viable options, usually only wealthy drivers or companies get the wheelchar vehicles. You are left with the other option which is renting a vehicle equipped with a TLC FHV Vehicle license plate. Lets say you go with the cheapest and reliable vehicle rental, which will be just a used Toyota Camry maybe 2017... These are renting for 500 to 550 right now, weekly. But then you also need to get your own liability insurance coverage. For driving in NYC you need insurance, but not private insurance or regular insurance like Progressive or Geico, those dont work. You need special Commercial insurance for TLC. If you are a new driver you can expect to pay between 350 to 400 a month. well if you divide this in the 4 weeks on the month you are left with around 80 to 100 extra a week. This is how you get the breakdown of 650 a week on operational costs. But this number doesnt include your gas costs of course. And remember that price will only get you a used camry. If you want to drive a year vehicle right now they go for 600 to 650 week I think... without insurance. If you want to drive Black cadillac or Benz its around 680 to 700. If you want to drive Escalade or Suburban Ive seen they go for 900 a week, but these cars I think the insurance covers higher liability so its a bit more expensive, maybe 450 a month... I hope I covered your question about break down cost. Im a driver myself and IM just trying to be clear about the costs involved. They are pretty high and I hope that if more people are aware of it maybe TLC will do something to change it. Or maybe leave it as it is but higher the wages that Lyft or Uber need to pay the drivers. I know some other markets like Washington DC, and Boston, drivers have same earnings weekly but they dont have to pay all this costs for running their operation...

Thank you for sharring great experience. But uber & Lyft kept major percent of ride fare. giving driver less ten 50% some time less then 40% . Driver taking life risk , use their car , gas & other maintenance too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some they give some adjustments but diver didn't know how much kept . specifically Uper hiding always

I would like tlc to force uber and lyft to send a message to passengers saying that drivers do not have the obligation to carry their bags and suitcases that if they do it is out of courtesy @uber @lyft
