I was cycling a wide bridleway in follow me mode. There was a slight bend in the path, trees, bushes, nettles, bind weed etc either side. I slowed. As I went round the bend I could hear the drone suddenly accelerate then silence. Extensive searching over many days did not bear any fruit. I've since bought a second X1 and have attached an air tag as suggested by Tom. It was my first ever drone and I trusted its capabilities. I'm much more careful with this second unit. @@Droneaway-72
Thank you Tom for sharing! My drone will be delivered tomorrow and this is great idea but may suggest for the App to add sound with the Bluetooth would be awesome
Given that the Hover Camera has onboard sound of its own, I suspect the clever developers could add a feature whereby if it lost touch with the app, it would start beeping to assist finding. Or something like that. Maybe you could suggest it (as an owner - I'm not, but very, very tempted!). [Edit - thinking on, it's designed to recognise a hand and land on it. So it probably knows when it has landed but not on a hand. At which point, it should start beeping. No phone / app required.]
@@englishcyclist "Find me beep on" could be an option in the app - some people might not want it making that noise for some reason. I didn't congratulate you on your interesting video - sorry - t's good!
Thanks for making this test and film Tom - must have taken a while to put together. Not an elegant solution as you say, but effective in the absence of other solutions. I would expect drone manufacturers to start incorporating finder beacons in their products as the technology advances and it becomes practical from both weight and cost aspects to do so. I'm unfamiliar with AirTags so here are a couple of observations bearing in mind my general ignorance: 1. Perhaps naively, I'd expected the finder apps to show a map and a location marker, but it seems to work on the hotter/colder principle instead which could be problematic in more built up areas; I envisage lots of pointless wandering🙄. 2. The app screened for any AirTags in the area, so if there's more than one, it'll show them all and knowing which one is yours looks like guess work. I noticed however that you made a fleeting reference to registering the tags and so perhaps this registration takes the guess work out of which one is yours?
If you have the AirTag registered with the Apple App FindMyPhone - you can track the AirTag with a map and arrows - however you can also track the tags via these Apps also without registration but some restrictions like the 10 min wait for any audio feedback. This actual AirTag is normally with me on the rides I do and registered with the Mrs iPhone so she can keep tabs on me on my little journeys. For this demo it would be assumed the drone is some way away from anywhere, and for the Hover X1 one of the new owners on the Facebook Group lost his in some bushes and spent some time scouting the area to no avail. For this any AirTag could be used to save the day as the drone is likely to be within 20mx20m search grid and you'd only need an audio beep or too to locate it.
Good to hear, I am hoping mine last long enough for the next version maybe ! little longer on battery and better camera specs - super impressive but I do hope the price comes down to £199 at some point as this drone fills a market not wanting to spend £400+ for a drone with features most will never use.
Thanks for making this video Tom. Hope it saves someone from the pain of loss I’m going through. Still looking for mine.
Best of luck, hope you find it.
Where were you flying yours to lose it and how ?

I bought the white one.👍🤠
Thank you for sharing ❤
Thanks for watching!

Enjoy the X1 !! you will love it
Hopefully the X2 will have some sort of BT tracking built in.
That would be a good feature, even beep on idle after say 2 min would help locate a downed drone thick in the bushes.
They don’t have velcro in England?
Indeed, double sided velcro and tape it on, much nicer solution

Some good ideas, the has it landed on a hand is a very interesting idea. Thanks

A Samsung SmartTag might be the way to go if you have a Samsung android phone.
Smart Tag looks good, will have to find one to test out.
Any issues with the drone you’ve noticed? I just bought an AirTag for this purpose but haven’t attached it yet
AirTag goes great for me, little bit slower but no major issues to report.
Nice video, got some crazy ideas for mine when I get it, probably won't last long

Does it have 9:16?
