  • @fastmtnbiker
    @fastmtnbiker 3 года назад +1

    Head weight is all about the moment. You've lowered the moment of inertia on that tool. You'll be able to do a lot more work with it due to the energy savings. I have an old McLeod that I customized with a 60" handle....I'm 6'4". I love that tool, but you've inspired me to stubby it up a bit. My trails are mostly rock....very little dirt. I've found myself backing off more often than not when pulling "molars" from the trail surface as the tines start to bend too much. Stubby McLeod.....with an extra long handle....will be an effective tool. Might even stubby up the tines on the Rogue Hoe (Sarah Palin) tools we have in our organization's inventory.

    • @SteadySpin
      @SteadySpin  3 года назад

      So much going on here lol. In the rock stuff watch your edge. It’s easy to weaken it by trying to get a larger “sharpened blade length “. I hope that makes sense. It’s a stronger tool not customized.

    Hi, Kevin. I noticed when you were using the angle grinder that you used a grinding disk not a cutoff disk. The grinding disk is used for smoothing off welds and grinding high spots. You likely build more trails than me, but can you share what you found better about the McLeod vs Rogue Hoe tools? I have the 70HR and 70AR Travis Tool and I love the 70AR as an all around tool. I am kinda wondering if I am missing something and need to get myself a McLeod.

      Travis tool is pretty amazing. All around trail maintenance for sure. I use the McLeod all day long tho. Maybe one day we can hit some trail work one day.

    It's not just 11% weight reduction. It's 11% of the total weight, but that all came off the head of it. I would bet you cut the weight of the head by 30%. I split firewood with a splitting maul and recently switched from a 8lb maul on a 36" handle to a 4.5lb maul on a 32" handle. I can swing that lighter maul all day long. Only 3 times in 4 cords of wood did I wish I had a heavier maul, but I just grabbed my wedge and got through those rounds that way. I'd take a lighter tool I can swing all day over a heavier tool that burns me out in 30 minutes every time.

    • @SteadySpin
      @SteadySpin  3 года назад +1

      Totally agree. I need to put in a 8 hour day not just 30 minutes.
