Hi David, as a bluegrass instrument learner, I appreciate your introduce of the song origination and historical records, That opened a big door for a learner instead of only learn the melody. Thank you!

To me, this would probably be amongst the best and clearest of explanations I've seen or heard on how to improvise on a tune.
Your concise verbal skills, backing that up with excellent notation and playing, makes this a very useful and informative video indeed.
    Thank you. More please. 😉

@@DavidBenedictMandolin Dave, I attend jams when I can. ( Not so much these days w/ virus ) Almost every time, I will hear this great tune played at least once. With 10 fiddlers, 10 or more guitars, a few mandolins, a couple banjos, everybody gets a solo break -- tune can last 15 or 20 minutes. Ha, great tune. Thanks for this one. By the way, one can hear several versions, played the way each person learned it -- what a treat for the ears !

I know this song pretty well so it is one that I can actually experiment with and keep up. Thanks for the new backing tracks to work with.

Thank you very much for this informative and comprehensive video. As far as my research goes there is no equivalent on RUclips. Especially for me living in Germany and having basically no bluegrass sources here this is very useful information!
And I like the cartoon intro 😉✌️

Awesome! Thanks for teaching this tune. The chord you played at 6:48 was an A minor chord but the tab showed B minor. Just thought you would want to know.

open chorfs sound great...but closed chop chords totally suck! harf to get a clear chord and sound like garbage!...not worth the effort.
