After 15 years of playing with a DW 9000, i'm switching to the new DW 5000 AD4. I just find the feel is much better. I found a dealer in my area that sells the SS-5000 by taking your advice about checking the Canopus website. Looking forward to making the change. Thanks for posting.
Oh yea ! Sounds awesome Martin. Now when u install that bearing system you will notice a difference. Please let us know what u think ! Thank u for watching my video sir. By the way, I have not experienced any issues with the speed bearing system. I play my DW 5000 double pedals 3 times a week for at least an hour.
I took a good look at the new DW 5000. Mine is 5yrs old plus. The New 5000 has a new pivot position on the lower spring connection. Which will make the pedal respond much quicker. Now when you take a look at the new 9000 pedal, the bearing on the upper spring is much similar to the speed bearing that I installed and the lower spring is on the pivot which will allow the pedal to play very well. I am going to purchase a 9000 pedal in a few months. It's worth it. Some people do not want to play with the adjustments. And that's fine. But I am a tinker to the Max ! If you cannot afford a 9000, please put this speed bearing on your pedal. It works. I am glad that I did.
I did a research and it works for all the 2000 Dw pedals , one more question, I found the bearings by dw the question is if I have to change the bearings too because my pedal for some reason it’s to tight , thank you for your answers , and your time .🙏
Thank u very much. And I play with this set up almost everyday. I have had no problems yep. I installed this same setup on my 5000 double pedals with a trick connecting rod. Oh my what a difference. Again not 1 problem at all. I have been playing the double pedal set up longer than the single. Its great 👍.
You're great Tony! This vid is cool. I'm getting the turbo 5000 single later today, I've always wanted one because DW seems to have a really good quality to them. Now you've sold me on the SS bearing. Keep drumming brother, you're a good positive force!
Randy Sparks thank you for your kind words. The 2017 DW 5000 pedal should not need any refinement. I think you will very happy with new updates. But by chance you get a 2016 or later pedal, this bearing kit will make your pedal fly. DW makes great equipment.
Speedstar bearing is awesome! I used to my old dw pedal. It changed to very smooth. Even though, I’m using DW5000 Deltar 4 now. changed to speedstar again! It feels like dw 9000!
Hello everyone ! Thanks for watching my video. You can purchase this Product from Canopusdrums.com . Look under Products. Then scroll down to Other Products. Click on that . Then you will see Speed Master Bearing. ! Scroll down and you will see different pedal Manufactures. Look for your pedal, Make and model. Good Luck Peeps and keep on drumming.
Thanks for the video Tony, very helpful. I was curious, did you make other upgrades to your 5000? I saw you have number markings for the tension and a different linkage connecting the chain to the footboard. Thanks again!
I had to purchase the stiffer tension spring. The bearing kit really made my pedal play very light feel with faster return. Thats why I needed a heavier spring. I purchased it from GC !
@@Worldsbestcupofcoffee on the video that is the stock spring. Then when began to play the pedal it was to light ! So then I installed that heavier spring ! That how much of a difference the speed bearing makes.
@Life Is Good oh I am such a dumb dumb ! Those are footboard weights. They came with my pedals when I bought them new. I actually like them. But none of my friends use them. I also use them on my DW 5000 double pedals. I also use the Trick linkage instead of the DW linkage. My double pedals are nice !
0:25 Yeah, you definitely don't want to lose your nut while you're trying to install this! :) Anyway, thank you for this video. I recently bought a new Tama Iron Cobra double pedal (Rolling Glide!), and while I'm *extremely* happy with it, now I plan to replace the Quick Hooks with Speed Star Bearings. For those who are curious, that's model SS-900IC of the Speed Star Bearing. The earliest I'll be able to order them is possibly in 1 week. So Tony, I'm saying if it weren't for your video, then I wouldn't know about this apparently awesome thing. Thank you.
Jose Alvarez thanks for liking the video. I check amazon.com and they had 3 of them. You can also try Canopus drums. They are the originator of this product. Man it works. I had to use the DW 25 spring on both my single and double 5000. The pedals became so smooth and fast, they where to light for my feet. So I needed the stiffer spring. On my double 5000, I also use the Trick linkage bar. Oh my goodness ! My pedals fly bro ! Both of my pedals are fast and I had to learn how use them. I also use the Trick Dominator bettors. Good luck.
Hello Jose Alvarez. Please go to Canopusdrums.com and scroll down the page until u see Products. Under products you will see" Other Products". click on that. Then scroll down slowly and you will see "Speed Master Bearing". Click on that. then you will see a list of manufactures the bearing is available for. I checked it out today Good luck !
I play a ddub 5k and I play fast as hell been trying to tweak this thing and every direction to go faster as I'm starting to feel limited with the articulation I'm able to create from. What are benefits from this kit?! Thanks in advance! Cheers from Knoxville
Awesome. I have the bearings installed on my 5000 double pedal ! And I also have the Trick connection rod. Oh my ! My pedals are much smoother and faster. If you choose my setup I think that you will be HAPPY !
Hey man. I just got a dw 5000 turbo (used) it almost feels like my main pedal is like catching or something very minor but not as smooth as id like. Almost like a suttle hiccup in the foot stroke. Im wondering if its the bearing
Make sure every nut and screw are tight. That can cause it to hiccup. And that is an annoying feeling. And if all your nuts and screws are tight, check the whole spring assembly just like the video. Look for defective spring and loose or worn bearing. Good luck drummer brother !
OK that's GOT to be the man, the Legend, Kenny Washington! Isn't it? So--would this Speed Star Bearing kit work on a Vector pedal by any chance? Or a Sonor Perfect Balance Pedal? How about an old DW chain drive from the 90s?
Hello Greg Burrows ! The Sonor perfect balance part # is SS-PBJJ. Also check the Speed Bearing web page just to make sure about the DW pedals made in the 90's.
Check here to find out: canopusdrums.com/en/product/speedstarbearing/ In a nutshell, the Vector pedal isn't mentioned, so you should contact Percussion Kinetics directly to see what they think: www.percussionkinetics.com/ The Perfect Balance pedal is supported by the SS-PBJJ Speed Star Bearing model. Hi Tony! I just got my ss 5000 for my dw5000 turbo single pedal mine is the delta 4. I'm reading on the instructions that came with the ss that some models after 2012 shouldn't need to adjust with the crank bolt, does that mean I should use the original bolt instead? Also, how do I know if my pedal is one of those models after 2012? I know mine is the latest model (delta4) but not sure what they mean by "some models made from 2012". I'll appreciate your advice. Great video btw, I watched after my drums instructor told me to look for canopus bearings for my dw5000. Thanks for reading!
What a great question. My pedal was purchase before 2012. Take a good look at how the Stock DW set up is. Now go ahead and install the complete canopus set. If the bolts do not line up like stock, then use the DW bolt. It should not bind or look crooked at all. I also install the heavier DW spring. My pedal was to fast and soft with the stock spring. Guitar center sells the springs. Just call before u go.
Tony Wycoff Thank youTony, I’ll do like you say, try both separately and compare. I think I’ll like the stock spring because the reason I changed the bearing is to have a lighter/softer feel out of the pedal, the original one feels good but I’m used to a lighter feel, maybe more 9000ish, I hope the ss does the trick.
U can the kit from Canopus drums. Or you can order it off amazon also. It's truly easy to install and u will notice the difference. I had to upgrade my spring cause the pedal was moving that much freely. But I am very happy with the speed bearing. So far I have not experienced any failures. Yay !
@ Matthew Vega...I hope this answer's ur question. The 2 bearings on either side of the foot board is for the chain sprocket and rod. Those bearings are sealed bearings similar to skateboard wheel bearings. The outer plastic wheel connects the spring for the foot board to return. When u install the speed bearing, u are gaining another skateboard type bearing to reduce friction from the old plastic one. Now you have quality bearings in all 3 parts 1. Left and right bearings on shaft. 2. The footboard connects via the chain 3. U have a sealed bearing for the spring yay ! I hope that helps.
I think I'm going ro order those for my DW 5000, been thinking about getting a 9000 bur someone mentioned their 5000 feels better than their 9000 with this.
In my opinion I think the 9000 is slightly heavier. Or it just seems a lil more solid. If you noticed on my pedal, I installed the weights. I like the feel. And so does everyone who has played that pedal. I use it for jams. You will be happy if u install the speed bearing it works.
Anselm Choi I love the setup. And I have had no problems. I have a DW 5000 double pedal modified the same way. I play them almost everyday and have had no issues.
