Pretty sure the reason a lot of the commonwealth nation trees are so bad is that they came out with the Together for Victory expansion which was like the first one.
That was such an underwhelminh expansion

I once did a New Zealand run in HOI4. I didn't want to piss off the allies so I tried to naval invade the Dutch East Indies, but then I realised I didn't have naval range.
It took me 2 in-game years to build up a good army and navy, so I just gave up.
Then you get messed over in peqce deals aswell because u r so small
You can basically get a free formable that gives decent manpower just rush down the left side of the focus tree and get the Maori voulounteers then wait for Australia, Uk, France and Usa to join the Allies and ask their pacific islands. After that switch to Japan's side and ask their islands too. You get free cores on all the islands (one of them has like infinite chromium) plus a claim and a core on Taiwan

I feel like bothering the devs to fix the together for victory focus trees is a good next step for the community.
one good-ish thing about their focus tree is that, if you go with britain you can send a volunteer division really early with the focus 2NZEF.
problem is that you can`t afford the manpower loss if that division dies

You could do the unite Polynesia thing where you just ask the allies and Japan for all their stuff in the pacific for free cores.

16:02 Chinese forces began to shutter at the very mention of "Bob semple". Some would say that the Japanese would at least throw their men in the front-lines while the Kiwis(?) would fly towards your supply lines if you lowered your guard for an instant. The tank was used solely as a spearhead to distract enemy forces long enough for the horses to run them over.
I may be biased because I am a Kiwi but when the New Zealand Focus tree was originally added I quite liked it it wasn't very powerful but it had a lot of fun historical stuff . but unfortunately it has not aged well , all of the Commonwealth Nations really need to be redone with the modern style of Hoi4 Focus trees

When Man the Guns first came out I remember doing a run as New Zealand where I went all in on navy, and ended up with a Kiwi carrier fleet. I spent the whole game growing my carrier fleet and microing it against Japan. I actually sank a good number of Japanese ships, and had a pretty fun game. I don't remember if I ever lost any carriers since this was like 2 years ago, but I do remember my fleet having to wait in port for a few months to replenish sunk destroyers and cruisers.
I thought one of the paths gave you decisions to just ask Britain, France, and America for the Polynesian islands but maybe that was Malaysia or maybe it was a fever dream

@@Pykerivous when LaR was released a change was made to tfv which allows NZ request to ownership of allied pacific islands. After collecting key islands from Britain, France, America and Japan you can get cores on all of them.

The history behind the Bob Semple is pretty interesting. As I recall (potentially incorrectly, don't cite a RUclips comment for your history term paper), New Zealand around this time didn't have much of an industry to speak of, with most of it used for railway manufacturing and no way to roll steel thicker than 15mm, or any way to get a hold of anything better than a tractor for propulsion. Even so they managed to make something which, if not viable in a military context, was still a proof of concept for their nascent industry, and by 1941 or so they were throwing down carrier hulls.
you're actually missing a whole lot of interesting details also the railroad stuff is not true most of New Zealand's rails came from other countries we did have some heavy industry but they were more related to construction and farming than to Railway. the Bob Semple Tanks as a concept was inspired the American Disston "Six Ton Tractor Tank" . Bob sample/Robert sample who at the time was Minister of Public Works was basically given the mission to make a prototype "tractor tank" something that was cheap to make and could be used like a mobile pillbox because during that time they couldn't really borrow tanks of the British because the British just lost most of their tanks in France . the Bob Semple Tanks that were made were all prototypes made with the cheapest materials possible they just made them as a proof-of-concept , Bob sample/Robert sample imagine that if they were mass-produced they they would make it so the body was made and then could be distributed across New Zealand and when the Japanese invade the bodies could just simply be placed on the Caterpillar D8 crawler tractor temporarily just during combat and honestly it would of been somewhat effective . but luckily there was no need to do that because the Americans joined in and the British started to have enough tanks to start to lend to the Commonwealth countries .

I mean its New Zealand? What did you expect? A way for them to become super powerful and rival Germany? Quite frankly, you should thankful the nation even has a focus tree, or heck even for being on the fricking map! The focus tree isn't meant to be fun to play, it only exists so the AI has something to do and doesn't break the game engine.
As a New Zealander I can pretty much say we just eat ice cream swim at the beach and and have sheep
On another note, this tech tree came around the same time as licenses feature so PDXs logic on New Zealand was "you research fast, you give others bonus, you get industry in return".
That's why NZ focus tree can give you 6(or was it 5) research slots, second one after US(originally, USSR nowadays after NSB can probably get the same amount too) and why all your political focuses end with "join research group of X". IE you research Big Bob not for yourself, but for Canada or USA, whom will lend lease it to UK or India to be used.
But yeah, looking at current trees for Ethiopia, Portugal, Bulgaria and Netherlands, it's bad. You should at least be able to pursue "overlordship" over British Malaya in competition with Australia, get claims on Dutch East Indies and request control of the islands from US.
On a side note what NZ tree needs(for sake of complexity I'll talk about only loyalist path) is to have focuses that give it massive special forces capacity(as marines is basically all you army), off map factories from other Commonwealth members and finally volunteer focuses for manpower. In fact ALL Commonwealth nations should get focuses to get volunteer manpower from Raj, off map factories from Canada and US and maybe even some old ships from UK and US.
Fixing Bob Sample, Schofield and Big Bob focuses is secondary to that.
You can request islands from the U.S. once they join the allies in 41. But you cant request from japan which sucks

On the far left side of the focus tree you can unlock the ability to get islands from your allies, if you go Fascist but stay in the allies and don't join the war than get islands from your allies and stay until America joins, ask them for islands than immediately take the focus to join Japan, request islands from Japan and unite Polynesia.
That's the idea anyway, I've only seen it done but never done it myself.
Or skip all that, play Australia, Make good Cruiser's for anti-surface raiding and Infantry + Tank.

the maori path allows you to demand polynesian islands from allies, so if you wait til france and usa are in allies you can get their territorities, leave the faction as facists and join japan, ask for their territories before joining ww2 and you can at least form polynesia
I would have implemented the following: If the player has researched the Basic Light Tank - give a national spirit that give -25% to light tank production cost.
The DLC was named "Together for Victory", and despite having some of the best art out of all of the dlcs, it and DOD were so fucking bad that PARADOX, the biggest of money grubbing companies gave out dlc for free to the people who actually bought it

Polynesia, submarine fleets, and inexpensive airplanes for cheap air supremacy. It is possible. I'm contemplating a tier list where New Zealand firmly fits the joke tier that exploitive knowledge of the game is the only reason they are serious in any way possible.

Hey Stakuyi, a mod for HoI4 I would really love to see you play is the Total Overhaul Mod, it's made by a friend of mine and is designed to keep specifically peace time a lot more interesting. Also it has a tendency to throw the game into absolute Chaos with war being fought everywhere and between every nation. Anyways really love your videos, keep up the good work my man.
Well, I think the whole point of playing as New Zealand, and it was intended by devs, is to create united polinesia. You receive a good amount of building slots and manpower but another side of the medal that a long build up, you literally need to wait to 1941 before you can start play as in some kind powerful national.
Not most of them, all together for victory focus trees are suck. They are too limited with world tension or being at war and you have so limited ideological options.
i think that in multiplayer unlocking the super-heavy tank might (and i want to emphasize on the MIGHT) be useful to a UK that wants SH tanks without reaserching to the tortoise

I pulled 300k manpower from New Zealand in a competitive multiplayer with 30+ players. New Zealand is capable of standing in ww2 against European axis powers like Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and, if they are just bad, Italy. New Zealand is all about pulling out insane unexpected surprise attacks against larger more powerful nations to get a quick beach head that Britain and America can rush in and defend.

this nation is a perfect example whu theu need to fix liscense production getting a 39 tank from uk or usa would be great but having 3 civ and burning them just for some tank production is huge cost. faction liscense sharing need to be buffed especiallu for puppets or dominions

Tbh removing 1934 medium tanks was a weird choice considering the first medium tanks appeared in... 1917-1918? Char 1A, smaller brother of Char 2C was a de facto medium tank that was ruined by 1)weak engines used on prototype because real engine was running late; 2)technical requirement for trench crossing that had it dragged out to ridiculous length which meant higher mass. If you take it, cut out the section you don't need because you don't plan to cross antitank trenches in WWI fashion and install british-american Liberty engine available for tanks around the same time, you'd get Pz.IVC with engine of BT-5. In 1919. Moreover they originally planned to use french 75mm M1897 gun for that tank before switching to short 105mm howitzer. Yes, basically the same 75mm used on M4 Sherman. So in 1919 you could produce a tank that would be quite capable tool for majority of WWII(at least until 1943) and "better then nothing" for many nations even post-WWII.
So I guess it's okay to remove ingame "medium 1934", which is a reference to Pz.III, Pz.IV and T-28, IF they would have instead given it away as "interwar medium". Maybe with higher price or something, idk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Is it possible to have a somewhat successful/enjoyable anarchist challenge run somewhere? I like your videos, but haven't played the game myself. I imagine that the lack of centralized authority would make it difficult to wage war, but I don't know if that will turn out to be a fun challenge or just pure frustration.
There's only one anarchist playthrough possible, which is one of the uprisings in the Spanish Civil War.
It is massively overpowered if you do it properly. You can get core territories on the entire world, which allows you to use the full population, resources, and factories of any state you desire.
If you play as the Spanish, win the civil war, and then immediately invade China (which you will have a state in already as you conquer Portugal), then you will have unlimited manpower and good resources.
