I agree! I just have wished that I rode the Redbirds... (I still have a chance to ride on them in Manhattan and Brooklyn) Well, we still have the R62/As to ride on them before they go in 10 years or so...
38:46 - West Farm projects! Still going strong today! The brown building on the left was the old trolley & bus depot which I believe was deactivated during the '80s and left abandoned. During the 70's, you could still see the old trolley tracks leading into the depot.
There are lots of former trolley depots / terminals around NYC that are now bus terminals. There are at least one or two on Staten Island and one of them still has trolley tracks in the floor of the building. In addition to that, many of the old streetcar lines that are now bus routes, many of the streets still has trolley tracks below a couple of layers of blacktop. Every so often, the rails of these tracks will become visible, before the NYCDOT throws down blacktop over the rails to "hide" them for a few decades. There's even a former trolley car "barn" on Staten Island that's used for the Department of Sanitation (Built circa 1902) as a garage for the garbage trucks. You will also see trolley tracks in Williamsburg and other parts of Brooklyn as well as near Coney Island, beneath some of the elevated subway lines like the "D Train". The vibrations caused by the trains on these elevated structures and the weight of trucks and busses causes the pavement to "buckle" and exposes the rails of these old tracks.
Back in 1985 l had rode these cars after they came on the 2 train when this new form profile looks newer but they were gone into an overhaul rebuild program to be graffiti free by 1995 R26/28/29 cars moved to the 5 train and most of the R33M cars assigned to the 2 trains! Crazy idea that high tech trains had taken over and 20 other sets of Redbird car groups could been saved for emergency uses for the 2 and 5 trains even others too!
Ayyyy, I saw that R36 6 train hauling ass, and if my history serves me correct, that last time R36s were ever on the IRT Lex was on the 4 line back in the 70s and also on the IRT 7th Ave 1 line in the 70s as well!!!😁
Around 37:27 this definitely brings me back to when I lived out there till 2004 but this right here I remember all to well as a kid going too and from school with moms. Remember sitting on the seats watching the Redbirds fly by. God I miss the early 2000’s 😢😢

This was great!! Brought back a lot of memories.
Nice job I took that train from Pelham Parkway to 149 to HS. Always wanted to be a motorman!
Great video. It brings back memories when I took the 5 train from Fulton Street to Gun Hill Road to visit my grandparents. Thank you for posting it.
what a difference; over 2 decades ago it wasn't much of an concrete jungle. I really miss those days.
The door motors on these were different than the other Redbirds!
Interesting info.
Elijah found one preserved. The driving end only with the sign displaying 125th street bound 1 train.
Right around the time the R142s were born. I was 7 years old during this time.
I was 5 years old when the redbirds were still running
I was 15 years old
This video was made on my first birthday!!!!
Excellent, thank you for sharing this. Good camera work!

Lenox cars in the 80s after rebuilding went to westchester. WFs and what not replacing the 17s.
Great videos brings back a lot of memories
During that time the Redbirds were mainly on the 2,5 and 7. 4 and 6 had them too but not many of them.
Chris Campbell Did the 3 and 1 line ever used redbirds?
Diory No it use R62/As
Gabriel T. Thank you
@@redbird1train855 The (3) and (1) only used the R62 and R62A trains at that time and they still do today.

I dont understand weren't all 26s and 28s GE after rebuilding? This train has WH motors.
I took that line from Pelham PKwY to 42 street and the trains moved way faster then they do right now. What’s up

Were there any ways to distinguish the R26 from the R33 mainline besides the builder's plate (ACF vs. SLC) and car numbers?
I don't think there is any other way other than what you mentioned.
@@chaohwac That was just a test. There actually was a difference: The R26/8/9 had speakers instead of lamps on the fan plates
@@kinkisharyocoasters Some R26/28/29s on the 2/5 had original drop sashes, all R33 and R36 ML had new style louvered vents.
