    This video is cool!It shows a new method for the vm in workstation how to use different vlan.Before watching this video,i use the a Huawei switch to achieve this function. I set the port to hybrid, and untagged all the used vlan, binding the mac-address to the vlan.

    Hi Brandon. Great video and the timing is great since I'm playing with VLANs.
    Quick question: how can you have VMware and hyper-v running at the same time? Last time I tried VMware was complaining about hyper-v.
    Any thoughts? Thanks.

      Eusebio, thank you for watching and posting a comment. Starting with VMware Workstation 15.5.5, VMware made it possible to install VMware Workstation on a host that has Hyper-V enabled. Which is also great as it allows us to do what I demonstrate in the video with VLAN tagging. Read my blog post about it that I posted when the version was released: www.virtualizationhowto.com/2020/05/run-vmware-workstation-15-5-with-hyper-v-enabled/

    A beautiful marriage between HyperV and Vmware. Question: were you ever able to achieve network speeds above 3gbps on your vmware workstation guests?

    Hey Brandon, I'm digging the channel. I appreciate the details & importance you place on using the correct terminology & restating acronyms & explaining them. I have a request or idea of something that I believe would make for good content. Can you PLEASE do a video on distributed switches from Vcenter. I can't for the life of me understand why I have to move the vmkernel to the distributed switch group. Im starting to think maybe I don't understand what a vmkernel really is used for. But what of I want that interface to be a dedicated interface for ESXi (i.e. no host).. and I want my host on a seperate interfaces (which btw I thought in video of how to protect your ESXi host from ransomware was one of your BP recommendations). And can you please explain why in the WORLD my only option to install Vcenter is on the ESXI host that it's managing?????? Really VMWare???? It makes doing the upgrade from Vcenter on that ESXi host, virtually impossible. There has to be a best practice there I'm missing. Keep up the good work & I look forward to your responses!!!!

    Hi thanks for your tutorial actually everything worked. I have only one problem. I can not reach my firewall via web from these VMs. It always comes Connection timed out. But I can ping the firewall as well as DHCP works fine.
    Internet works also only so partially, Google etc. works but as soon as I want to download something always comes Connection timed out.
    Do you have any idea what this can be?

    Hi, and thanks for a great video.
    One question 🙂
    I have VmWare workstation and need 2 vlans going out of my one and only host ethernet interface.
    Does the physical interface on my win11 pc become trunk port when doing this or do I misunderstood?
    Is it possible to connect my PC ethernet interface to a trunkport on my switch?
    BR

      @VirtualizationHowto  2 года назад +2

      Friis, thank you for watching the video, and, yes, to answer your question, you will need to have the workstation uplinked to a trunk port. The tagging provided by the Hyper-V virtual switch needs to have the corresponding upstream switch port tagged accordingly. Hope this helps!

    Hi there, I am back again... unfortunately this time with some rather not so good news. So after setting up the network adapter I got the error message saying "VMware Workstation and Device/Credential Guard are not Compatible" I did some digging, and for some reason my vmware workstation installation couldnt run while Hyper-v was installed. I was unable to launch a single VM. I uninstalled Hyper-V and then everything worked again. Is there any reason I am still getting that error message?

    OMG! Exactly what I have been looking for, my issue is that I happen to run both mac and windows and I have VMware fusion and VMware workstation pro. How can I accomplish this with VMware fusion ?

    • @VirtualizationHowto
      @VirtualizationHowto  2 года назад +1

      Admiral, that is great to hear! So glad the video was helpful. I am not sure of a similar solution that can help with Fusion unfortunately, unless someone in the community is aware of something that would allow VLAN tagging similar to what the Hyper-V switch is allowing in VMware Workstation. Hopefully the comments will get visibility and someone will comment if they know of something. Thanks again!

    quick question, if i wanted to test out Pfsense for a lab env would it be better performance to actually use just hyper-v to virtualize rather than VMware, as i believe that would add another layer of virtualization to the NIC to use VMware workstation on top of the hyper-v nic .

    • @VirtualizationHowto
      @VirtualizationHowto  Год назад

      Damien, bare metal Hyper-V, even client Hyper-V (which is still Type 1) shoudl theoretically be faster than the Type 2 stack of VMware Workstation for sure.

    Hi Brandon, Thanks for the guide. I think I went a bit large-scale with the idea. I have around 24 VM's. Don't ask why :D When I enable VLAN tagging after a while I lost connectivity. I had to restart the windows 11 machine. But again same result. Any benchmarks that you aware of ?

    • @VirtualizationHowto
      @VirtualizationHowto  Год назад

      Ravindra, that is strange. I can't say that I have seen that, but to be honest my VMware workstation environment is much smaller. That is awesome you are running 24 VMs. I would like to know the specs of your workstation :) When you lose connectivity, I am assuming it is isolated to your VMware Workstation environment?

    Unfortunately this will not work if you want to use ESXi on top of VMware Workstation in a Nested environment, because VMWare Workstation and Hyper-v both compete for Intel VT- x :{ If you know of a way for VMWare Workstation and Hyper-V to play nice with each other in a Nested environment, you would be a legend....

    is it possible to do the same in vsphere in a server with just 1 network adapter?

    • @VirtualizationHowto
      @VirtualizationHowto  2 года назад

      Yes I believe it would be. I have not tested this personally. However, you could enable "nested virtualization" on a vSphere VM and make sure the vSphere VM vNIC is connected to a "trunked" port group.
