    I just added a LGS Basket to my Yoder stick burner and LOVE IT!

    Thanks for this video. I’ve upgraded my fire grate to the 1/2” one but just been tossing in the splits and not containing them. Next time I’m by LSG I’ll pick one up for my 24x60” offset.

      The basket will definitely help you keep a contained fire in the firebox. I wish I could stop by LSG!

    I have your same LSG smoker and basket…just received them. What size splits do you use? A regular 16” split is too big it seems…perhaps cutting them in half…so 8” splits would work best?

    I had some trouble maintaining consistent temps in my LSG 20 x 42"offset and purchased the LSG's square basket with the steel baffles. I still had issues. I upgraded to the new LSG fire management basket and have never looked back! It was a game-changer for me. Highly recommended.

      Do you use full size splits or do you cut them in half? I’m looking at getting the LSG 20x42. Thanks!

    • @BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ
      @BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ  2 года назад

      Definitely cut full size splits down in size. Full size splits don't burn as efficiently in the 20" smokers. They require more adjustments.

      @@benwagoner9741 1/2 or even 1/4 splits. The smaller the splits the easier it is to control the temps. I started with full splits THINKING it more of a set it and forget it... That was a mistake. Keep a smaller fire going and look after it. I set my phone alarm for 30 minutes and that seems to be the right timing for wood maintenance.

    Great minds lol I have had mine for a few weeks and really like it! It concentrates the coals so the splits ignite faster. My 1 complaint is I wish it was longer, My splits stick out the end so have had to cut them down. I too put mine to the right and place the next piece of wood next to it. They ignite almost immediately. Ever since getting this the smoker keeps consistent temps and I maintain that thin blue smoke most of the time!!! Enjoy!

      I’m in the same boat..... some of my splits are too long and need to be cut down. Achieving that blue smoke is one of the best sights & feelings in BBQ! Smoke on brother!

    I was looking for a basket like this on ebay and by chance I have a similar square basket as you. I feel the same, your goals and interpretation align with mine seeing the two side by side. For me, on my lang the fire box has a narrower opening and that basket with the ability to feed it by the front unobstructed with it's open V-channel would make the task easier. Your probably wondering why I respond to dated videos. That's pretty simple because being a subscriber to your channel youtube on occasion throws out a blast from the past, they always shuffle up deck, like Cracker Jack...a surprise in every box. I'd wander out to the cooking area to get some measurements but a blizzard just passed through the other day and two feet of snow is making things difficult. I'll be looking to Lone Star for a price check, let's see that was almost 2 years gone by, the price will have changed by at least $30-40. Look at that, where are my manners, I forgot to say Hi how are you. Excuse em moi, Comment allez-vous?

    Why don't you use your gas log assist to start your charcoal?

    • @BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ
      @BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ  3 года назад

      Over the years I have found that starting with the gas log assist doesn’t make the process much more efficient or easier. It proved to be an extra step & I’d rather use my propane with my flattop grill or deep fryer. I wouldn’t purchase it if I had a do over.

    Hi Kenyatta - It’s nice to get an accessory that complement your main equipment. I have seen numerous videos on this fire basket that sing the praises of the quality & “V” shape design to centralize the coal bed/fire. It should last several life times.

    • @BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ
      @BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ  4 года назад +1

      Hey Mark.... it will absolutely last several lifetimes. I was honestly surprised by how much LSG put into their fire basket. They did not cut any corners just because its an accessory.

      Backyard SmokeMaster BBQ - Agreed, they don’t seem to skimp on anything. They’re very thoughtful about there product/accessory lines quality & design. Everything they make appears built to last. Best of luck with your new fire management system.

    Hoping someone gets me one for Father’s Day. Having splits occasionally roll off the fire is a pain in the butt, and this design should totally eliminate that. Since the sides are plate and not expanded, I’m pretty sure you don’t have to push it all the way to one side to prevent warming splits inside from catching flame, at least for low n slow fires. My present basket is expanded metal like your old one there, only my buddy made it fo me for free. I have a Texas Pit Crafters 20x36 and I don’t push it all the way to one side. Usually no issue but I warm on top for hot and fast cooks. Thanks for the video. Nice pit!

    • @BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ
      @BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ  4 года назад +1

      Hi David... you are correct, LSG's basket allows you to put a split on the side & not worry about it catching. Their design is perfect! The basket far exceeded my expectations.

  • @johnknapp6328

    Nice Addition Ive seen them on other channels. You have great Demonstration that really concentrates coal base and gives you room for preheating splits. I would be curios how much less wood you might use on long cook. I think thats 27 pounds . Great Video Kenyatta

    • @BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ
      @BackyardSmokeMasterBBQ  4 года назад

      Thanks John.... my first cook wasn’t extremely long (I made cupcake chicken thighs) and I wasn’t paying extremely close attention, but I recall that the splits seemed to last around the same amount of time as usual which for me is around 45 minutes. You’d get different mileage depending on the size of the split as no two are exactly the same. Being able to pre-warm splits inside the firebox causes them to ignite instantaneously so that definitely helps save time tending to the fire. I think having an easier time managing the fire is the biggest advantage but I’ll comment in a future video if I find that LSG’s basket helps me use fewer splits. Take care!
