It's almost 14 years later and I'll never forget that day waiting for the bus at 67th and Peoria Ave. First, sideways wind. Then, sideways rain. And then, the reason for the low rumble I'd been hearing, was hail the size of a quarter. At the same time farther west (where I lived) I could see it was bone dry and mostly sunny. I was under the edge of the storm and could see rotation at the southwest corner. It spawned at least a couple tornadoes further north that day. The central part of the storm left auto dealers with massive damage to their inventory. Baseball sized hail broke skylights and windows in homes, then bounced around like pinballs causing more damage. Tile roofs were shattered. What no one was expecting were the dark "bruise" spots on asphalt roofs that showed up days later. Total damage across the metro area was estimated at $2.8 billion, which is $4 billion today in 2024.
I also remember the hailstorm we had on Mar 4, 2004, that one was mainly in the east valley, driving down baseline rd in Mesa looked like a winter wonderland the ground was so covered in hail and slush
Hi there. May we have permission to share this content on The Weather Network, our Pelmorex Corp. properties and partners, with onscreen credit to you?
HAHAHA 4:37. There's always that one guy who just doesn't give a flying shit LOL. Makes me laugh. I bet he's from the midwest, sees that every year times 10 lol.
In Chicago, when it hails, people just keep driving. I was kind of surprised when I was caught in a hailstorm here how everyone just kept going at their normal speed.
I was in France when it happened and couldn’t figure out what everybody was talking about on the shuttle ride home when I got back. I worked for Allstate as a claims adjuster about a year after this and we were still inspecting roofs for hail damage. At the time, this hail storm in Phx was the single most expensive weather event in history of Allstate.
In major hailstorms you suppose to pull over. Because one hail is coming down and you moving forward can cause relative speed of the hail to increase and cause more damage, lot of ice on the road can be very slippery and visibility is reduced to poor levels.
I had to drive out to Baghdad, AZ that day for work, was supposed to go all the way to Kingman, but the roads up there were so bad, that I got the OK to turn around and come back, pulled back into Phoenix around 5pm to see the aftermath!! it looked like a warzone!
Here in Arizona, our weather can be easily compared to the drawings of a maniac in a mental institution! From hail to snow! From monsoons to dust storms! Flash floods and dust devils! The whole shebang! We absolutely LOVE it here! :-D
Hell, I even remember that blizzard that happened in FEBRUARY 19, 2013 in TUCSON! I'll have to say, driving at night would have never been more terrifying.
Sunday, 10/31/10. So you are doing the driving - navigating through this storm on the freeway, and also doing the video recording? At the same time? This kind of weather is so unusual for Phoenix that if you were doing both the driving and video recording, I must say, you certainly had your wits about you. It took all of us Phoenicians by surprise. Very unusual weather. Came on suddenly with (3) different episodes during that Tuesday afternoon. Great footage! Thanks for posting!
I remember his storm, I was in class at thunderbird high school. The roof was seriously damaged and classrooms were flooding. The damage to the school was so bad it wasn’t worth repairing it or greenway high school and they ended up rebuilding the schools instead
Hello, this is Seth from 12 News in Phoenix. We are doing a story about the storm 10 years ago to the day. May we have permission to use your video with on screen credit to your RUclips handle?
it is a full custom one of widebody kit tc with a custom candy teal grean paint job with aur brush work as well from one of the top air brush artists in the states. its also turbocharged as well and he also has custom interior. it has been valued at 30k and is fully insured for the full value. he also has a scion xb that no one will want to fuck with when its done being built.
I lived near then. Remember that day all to well. We had baseball size hail at our place! And the ground was totally white with hail. At 2:00 am there where still hail the size of golf balls!
I worked at a rental car place at this time. For about a year, we were working on cars. Some had to be totaled. It missed the airport. Where I was at 40th st and University, I saw this cloud and wondered what the heck is that? Only pea sized fell there.
@YAHWEHisperfect Yeah, my windshield have two new cracks, and the existing crack got a bit bigger. There are many dents on my truck body, mostly on the hood.
The big golfball size hail seems to come down around 4:00. But look at this person's windshield crack at :14, then again at 5:29. My fiance & her mom where a few miles ahead of you NIKEAIRJ. Thank God, they got off at Indian School and missed the flooded underpass at Thomas Rd.
I'll agree with your friend. He should have stayed under the overpass. He would have had more protection. Plus it looks like his side windows and windshields all fogged up. He should put his defroster on he could see better. Thank you.
damn, why wouldnt you have just pulled over when you were under the overpass and stayed there? you wouldnt have had any damage. i was lucky, my end of town didnt get it as bad as glendale and phx did.
damn i live off the 17, this shit was crazy hella cars got fucked up all over windows in houses all broken , damn first time i ever see it this crazy here in az!!
OMG! This is excellent footage of the storms we had here in Phoenix which actually turned into Tornadoes and hit Belmont just west of Flagstaff, AZ. Now, I can show people how bad it really was. I captured video also but it didn't seem all that bad from my angles which I explained to my viewers but it was really really bad.
Wow, I was there when it happened, but I was inside the house, so not as scary as that! I'm glad no one around you seemed to have gotten into a car accident.
This hailstorm was the part of a tornado outbreak in Arizona that spawned 11 tornadoes including an EF3, this was the costliest hailstorm ever. Caused 5.6 Billion dollars in damage. On October 5-6th 2010.
I remember this hail storm, I got caught in it at a junkyard on the south side . Me and a friend had to sit in random cars til it went away . Many cars were dinged up after this
If you can stop under the bridge but only stay off the road dont stop in middle of traffic you put in danger everyone, and if you get in storm like that never stop drive 5-10 mph damage on car will be smaller
It doesn't always rain in Arizona, but when it does all hail breaks lose.
+billybassman21 Oh hail no
Lmao that was Hail a funny
Hail Yeah
Yea
What the hail is going on😄😄
If I were him I'd stop under that overpass to protect the car
That's what I would've done
Commonsense there. I think the storm wasn't strong enough yet.
Then other cars will start parking under the overpass and cause a pileup
Then a DPS officer would stop behind you and make sure you're who you say you are and write you a big fat ticket.
exactly!!!
how bad was your poor truck beat up after that?

If I were u I would stay under the bridge you crossed earlier in the vid...
TLTV GR OH MY LORDDDDDD!!!!😂
Exactly my thoughts. I'm sure he got some hail damage.
That's not smart at all, you're just asking to get hit.
Hi there. May we have permission to share this content on The Weather Network, our Pelmorex Corp. properties and partners, with onscreen credit to you?
Sure thing. Go ahead! Thanks for asking.
@@RandallNoriega Thank you very much!
HAHAHA 4:37. There's always that one guy who just doesn't give a flying shit LOL. Makes me laugh. I bet he's from the midwest, sees that every year times 10 lol.
Lol? Are you a 13 year old girl?
Jeffrey Davis I don't really understand lol. Are you judging my comment or my picture?
Chris Buttler he's saying there really is no point stopping just keep driving obviously. Can't understand a simple comment??
In Chicago, when it hails, people just keep driving. I was kind of surprised when I was caught in a hailstorm here how everyone just kept going at their normal speed.
i think her windshield strong lol
I love this video I watch it millions times I love Phoenix and this video

@motoven I actually didn't notice it before, but the crack actually grew a bit after the hail. Craziness!
At least it was not golf to tennis ball size insurance would cost $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
How did the windshield didn't break
0:45 is that a small crack in the windscreen?
Beautiful filming of the road during the rain!

so how much was the damage? last year our insurance paid us 10K each car for 2 cars hail damage
Trump supporter .... I didn't report the damage. 😋
Trump supporter cus most Trump supporters can't even afford to fix a simple scratch in their cars lol

Damage to the inside of the car has been reported at 0:00.
After you saw/heard the hail slamming against your car, why didn't you pull over under bridge?
Dude! you can't see a damn thing! holy crap. I live in Phx, and remember that storm. It was Epic.
Storms like those nolonger exist
@@invader_ren5974 they will occur more frequently as the climate changes more severely
Florida style of driving
any damage to the car?
Ruth Bajor im sure there is.
What kind of car
I remember his storm, I was in class at thunderbird high school. The roof was seriously damaged and classrooms were flooding. The damage to the school was so bad it wasn’t worth repairing it or greenway high school and they ended up rebuilding the schools instead
So, in the end, how much damage was done to your vehicle?
Hello, this is Seth from 12 News in Phoenix. We are doing a story about the storm 10 years ago to the day. May we have permission to use your video with on screen credit to your RUclips handle?

Safelite repair... Safelite replace.
What kind of car is this
I hope I don't go to HAIL?
How big was the hail?
I remember this storm. It wasn't limited to just one area. This caused damage all over the city.
$30k scion tc??? What is it made of gold?
Great video quality
Omg is everyone okay

All of sudden it stops
Yes it is all sudden
Hailstorms can be there one moment and gone 10 minutes after for example

@YAHWEHisperfect Yeah, my windshield have two new cracks, and the existing crack got a bit bigger. There are many dents on my truck body, mostly on the hood.
In other words the dents are on the roof area
In truth many types of glass don't stand to hailstones once they exceed 1 inch in size⚠️
@siliconsurf Yes. 2 new cracks, and the existing crack got a bit bigger.

great video! Glad it didn't break your window!!!
Wow you have a very strong windshield
I remember the day like it was yesterday
Amazing show of Timing in rain, hail and best is saving the deer calf.
THATS INSANEEEE!! nothing like that here in central phx :O
It certainly is insane weather in my opinion
the radio sound has broken the ambience, it's not good
I got 1/4 inch hailstones I thought that was bad.
I'll agree with your friend. He should have stayed under the overpass. He would have had more protection. Plus it looks like his side windows and windshields all fogged up. He should put his defroster on he could see better. Thank you.
It hailed again this year for about a minute 2021
Wow...the pwerful force of nature...kept watching that chip in the windshield crack further
Usually, when there is hail, there is a tornado to follow. Yikes ¡!
Hell Ya. I love the sound of rain. ILOVEMONSOONS!
That is hail falling not rain
that storm was crazy. i was at the 17 and 101 when it hit. thankfully my car wasnt damaged
I was at 40th street and University. Got only rain.
WTF The ocean came down?
damn, why wouldnt you have just pulled over when you were under the overpass and stayed there? you wouldnt have had any damage. i was lucky, my end of town didnt get it as bad as glendale and phx did.
NOW THAT'S a high pressure carwash!!! lol
that was some crazy shit! I dont think we got it that bad in tucson, but then again, i was at home that day lol
i remember when i was 7 and my mom picked me up after school and it was hailing,im 15 now and still talk about it
Many people never stop talking about weather events in the past
The bridge was like platform 9 3/4. Suddenly a magic world turning into a big hella hail storm
Good lord!!! And i thought the hail was loud from my apartment!!!! (43rd Ave & Bell)
My goodness, that was "Epic"... Looks like you picked up a tray of ice though! :-)
Doug Fairweather I would have stuck a cup out the window and at least made the best of the situation.
When you realize you need Super Sonic Mode freaking engage fast wipers ..When you crossed the bridge
At least the hailstorm clears away before the end of the video
damn i live off the 17, this shit was crazy hella cars got fucked up all over windows in houses all broken , damn first time i ever see it this crazy here in az!!

I remember when that storm hit, but I wasn't able to see it since I was on vacation in California and I was bummed that I didn't get to see it
Wow, I was there when it happened, but I was inside the house, so not as scary as that! I'm glad no one around you seemed to have gotten into a car accident.
I was stuck in this storm too
@BlessedONE333returnz oh yeah, that too. I saw a school bus get struck by those power-lines.
If I’m him I will go home very quickly when it started to rain alot

I remember this1... crazy Monsoon weather that woman is at the end of the summer rare but definitely happens
We never get storms like these anymore. No hail, no monsoon, no giant dust stoms....all we get are fucking sprinkles and heat waves that kill. 😭😭
Ah, yes. The day before Arizona’s epic tornado attack.
One of those days I was very happy to be working from home
There is really no reason to have the wipers going apeshit when you're stationary.
Do watch your language on RUclips
I remember this hail storm, I got caught in it at a junkyard on the south side . Me and a friend had to sit in random cars til it went away . Many cars were dinged up after this
Idk that day was weird. Shit was blown over, I'm thinking a really powerful microburst, derecho or a low grade EF 1 tornado. Shit was crazy all day.
That day I was born
@kyle1081 I know what is like to be in one hail strom now and sometimes they get big enough to break your window, but on this video looks pretty bad
And this just wasn't one part of the city. Phoenix is pretty spread out and this storm covered the whole damn town.
Say goodbye to you're hearing if you are wearing headphones lol
Gordy Muncher4Life Booth oh I died a long time ago from wearing headphones
Time missing??😋
You people over there yonder always get the most exciting of weather.
If you can stop under the bridge but only stay off the road dont stop in middle of traffic you put in danger everyone, and if you get in storm like that never stop drive 5-10 mph damage on car will be smaller
@siliconsurf look at theclock it says 4 55
Where to Iván oh because it happened to me once but not as strong as oh
Oh my God its like a Tornado - 11 April 2018
You have a strong windshield
Jimmy Sakura Gakuin Fan it would be funny if the windshield wipers blew away xD
