I ran into him in Denver at a club (this was a few years ago, and before i was familiar with his stuff) We joked around, and had a great time laughing at the other bar patrons. He got called to do his set and i realized who he was. Last thing he said, "You make me laugh, and that's the most important thing." It was a surreal experience in retrospect. He influenced my comedy more, as "that guy at the bar," then anyone ever has.
He mirrored my life impeccably, and his comedy was so pure and real, that even though I didn't know Harris, I felt a deep and very real loss with his passing. He said "Motherfu#@ers just want to laugh", And that's what he helped inspire in many of us. Maybe we will meet up in another life, when we're both cats...
You arent the only one man. His death really fucked me up. I hope it can at least inspire me to get back on stage and doing open mics and writing. But unfortunately even his death hasn't stopped me from using. He was so young and accomplished so much of what goals I aspire to reach one day.
James Roth III Indeed, he was one of those people who felt like a friend even though you had never met. Exuded warmth and humour all around. His appearances on Comedy Bang Bang always make me smile in times of dismay.
