I got my 8 year old daughter on Woodstock for the first time in April, By her Birthday mid may, she was hot lapping Diamondback and Orion. She loves them now! What worked for both one is taking them alot and they do get used to it.

Excellent, little girls always seem more adventurous with the big coasters. Steel Vengeance on the other hand, well kid-gloves. I would suggest other coasters first, not all in 1 day. Work up very slowly but your more than on your way. Enjoy the world of coasters!!!

That's awesome! Frequent visits are a great idea too. It's such an exciting time when a kid starts enjoying coasters and can ride more every year as they get taller and more brave!

I think I’m a weird person that was never afraid. I just remember my dad hyping coasters up and I was like “YEAH I WANNA DO THAT!” and so I’ve been riding coasters ever since I can remember. I remember my first big one being Rolling Thunder at Great Adventure when I was 6 years old.

My family was the exact opposite. They’re the reason I’m scared of them.

These are great tips for getting over your rollercoaster fears, however, I disagree with closing your eyes when riding. I think that closing your eyes makes you unaware of the coming element so you can't prepare for it mentally. Keep your eyes open. Be aware, then you'll see that a particular element (first drop, inversion, etc) isn't so bad. A scared mind is usually an unprepared mind. So be prepared. Keep your eyes open. 😌

I have autism and rollercoasters are overstimulating. So small coasters feel much more scary than they actually are and I can’t do big rides.

EXACTLY!! i have that too! I don't have autism but i beel like small rides are so scary and others are like "It's literally nothing dude, grow up"

When I was young, I would always want to ride the tallest and fastest, but could not get myself to go on rides with inversions. Until one time I was with a family friend who wanted to ride vortex, and I thought if a girl a few years younger than me could do it, then I could too. Sometimes that's all it takes.

I enjoy seeing young fearless girls take on the big coaster. That's all it took for my wimpy nephews to have the ultimate ride experiences....

I was afraid of roller coasters that went upside down up until 2001 when I went to Kentucky Kingdom (back then it was a Six Flags park) and decided to ride a roller coaster with inversions. That roller coaster was the ride that broke my fear of riding roller coasters.

Guess Go Big or Go Home may work for some but working your way up is better today. For me I wanted the biggest, badest, craziest, fastest and insane coaster on the planet to ride first and never looked back. I need a T-Rex fix or a supper TopTrill Dragster...

GREAT VIDEO, lots of true stats. The old coasters did put the fear in some people. Seeing Son of Beast in action..WOW! I've seen hardcore coaster enthusiasts walk away...lol
Yes it was very violent and felt like you were a rag doll in a pit bull's mouth on certain times of the day. Mean Streak too, but all those insane coaster are gone now. Today's coaster are master pieces of safety, fun and reliable service. All I can say life would be boring without coasters and looking forward to the new T-Rex coaster and the improved Top Thrill Dragster. Enjoy these marvels of engineering and have fun everyone!

I used to LOVE scary amusement park rides, especially coasters. Then one fateful day, my friends and I decided to go to the now defunct Geauga Lake. While there, I rode a suspended coaster --nothing super scary or anything like that. I remember going up the lift hill, making the right turn towards the drop, taking in my deep breath, and I passed out. I remember coming to as the ride was pulling into the station (you could actually see me slumped over in the on-ride photo). It's most likely that I blacked out due to my blood sugar dropping (I hadn't eaten all day), but since that moment, I have had a fear of coasters. I will ride coasters at Cedar Point that I have ridden before, i.e. Blue Streak, Gemini, and Magnum XL200; but have a hard time getting the courage to ride the new coasters. My daughter did convince me to ride Gatekeeper, which I enjoyed, but I remember having a borderline panic attack after being locked into the restraint.

Ron I feel for you, you pinpointed the issue. Keep your sugar level proper with your daughter, go slow and easy in the parks. Wish I can help/escort you to the big coasters to help you get over your fears. I've done it with many friends and now their animals at these parks...lol
Parks should have a volunteer service for new riders, that would be fun for both parties...
