- This is towards the end of the movie, "The Sixth Sense" starring Toni Collette and Haley Joel Osment. This movie was directed by M. Knight Shyamalan. Bruce Willis is also in the movie, but not in this scene.
Toni Collette was flawless in this scene. Incredible performance. I would give her an oscar just for this.

She was born in November 1972. This film was released in 1999, before her 27th birthday. So she was probably 25 or 26 depending on how long filming took. But still very young! One of my favourite actresses 💗

I think why this scene is so powerful is because everyone can relate to having lost someone in their life and have that desire to know that they made some kind of positive impact on the lost ones life.
Well as for me it's overwhelmingly due to Toni Collette's brilliant performance. You can't help but to feel for her (and his son) but no personal history popped into mind.
Ivestor1 A couple of months ago when I watch this clip for the first time, I didn’t have a relative passed away, but now I do. And that hurts every time I think about it.
I think it’s so overwhelming because she suddenly unterstands and they feel finally close to each other - for the first time in the film. It’s reflected in her own story with her own mother.
And to know that their loved ones are still here somehow. 😢

Toni Collette. Australian actress - not only KILLS this scene but still manages to keep a flawless Philly accent. She and Meryl Streep are my two favorite actresses of all time.

the acting in this scene is just absolutely brilliant. from the young Haley Joel osment and especially from Toni Colette! brings tears to my eyes every time. this is why I love cinema and dramatic film
No other actress could ever of played Toni's role in this movie, especially this scene! You can't help but get choked up because she's choking up.. Very talented actress to be able to get the audience to copy her emotion

The best thing in this is how everything naturally and dynamically flows in here, just very real, the conversations and emotions, which build up layer by layer, with subtle and careful construction of gradual intensity.

Dude you should see one of her early films, Muriel's Wedding. She manages to be hilarious and heartbreaking simultaneously. Recommend you see it.
The culmination of the characterization of the movie. The characters are so well written, they are real and we empathize them and this one here is the payoff. What an amazing scene and my favorite also.

I think this goes down as one of the most incredible movie scenes ever. Two absolutely incredible actors. It's actually impossible for either of them to give a bad performance and they've both been in some really shitty films in the past, but they never fail to impress.

I think about this scene all the time. It comes back to me, again and again. Something about the weight being handed back and forth, loving, fearing, grieving together, all at once... it is wonderful

I am choked up every time I see this scene. The acting - on Toni Colette's and Haley Joel Osment. The sensitive and tender way of dealing with such a difficult subject. That's just it: it is a very tender subject, our loved ones in the next world, Malcom and his wife, and those people who are sensitive to it. It can be scary, but many times not. This is one of my favorite movies of all time as it makes my hair stand on end, but touches my heart very deeply at the same time.

She's so brilliant, I totally sat there in the movie theater thinking "how come I never saw her before, when she's this good? maybe she does mostly stage work..."
Her Philly accent had me convinced she was American. Then I saw her name in the credits: "Toni Collette," and realized she was the Australian actress who was so great in Muriel's Wedding. She looked and acted so different I didn't even recognize her from the previous time I'd seen her in a film.

The emotional impact of this scene is incredible. I get teary-eyed and think about my late sister everytime I watch this. Toni Collette makes you cry along with her and then you have to watch it over and over again......so you can cry some more. BEAUTIFUL.

Such a powerful scene, made more powerful by two amazing performances. It's crazy to think that Haley Joel Osmond was a little kid, but held his own with Toni Collette in this scene. Awesome acting, great movie. @ Patrick Dyer I'm with you man, its obvious Shyamalan at one point had genuine talent, hopefully someday he can find it again.

This was also my fave scene of this brilliant and very classic film, I believe this scene alone got both Haley Joel Osment & Toni Collette those Oscar nods. Collette is such an amazing actress, her facial expressions of OMG are just brilliant. And when he tells her about her about grandma who's dead, she just amazing the way she holds it together. Scene makes me break in lots of tears everytime even if i know what's going to happen. Haley Joel Osment was such a gifted actor, what happen to him?

Incredible scene with two superb actors. This movie is a modern day classic. It's not really about ghosts. It's about the relationship between a mother a son. That's the heart of this film. The ghost element is simply the device that allows that relationship to be explored. Brilliant movie.

Haven't seen this movie for a very long time but the intensity of this scene had me reaching for tissues again. Powerful performance by Haley and Toni. If a movie messes with your emotions like this scene, it has been a success.

To any Kingdom Hearts fans like me who may be here: Haley Joel Osment did the voice for Sora about three years after this. He has always been an incredibly good actor, both in movies and voice acting. This is an amazing film.

Well, dude, when I was a little kid (like two or three years old) I had two 'imaginary' friends, Martha and John. Apparently I drove my parents nuts because I would insist they were real and couldn't understand why no one else could see them. The thing is, I can actually REMEMBER them; Martha was a girl of seven or eight and used to wear an old-fashioned print dress. John was a bit older, perhaps ten, and had brown pants held up with braces. I wasn't scared - as far as I was concerned they were just two additional playmates. I don't recall exactly when I stopped seeing them - I got older and the world intruded, and one day I realised I hadn't seen Martha and John for a while.

@@ramaarafat4608 Honestly, they weren't creepy. They looked as solid as you or I, and I never had the impression that they meant any harm - the only difference was that nobody else could see them, but kids being kids, I didn't worry about that aspect of it too much and just enjoyed my playmates.
This has always been my favorite scene from this movie. Toni Collette is brilliant and she truly deserves more recognition over here in the US. And of course, Haley Joel Osment is amazing in this film as well

I'll be 48 in a month. I've watched a LOT of films in my life. And there's several scenes that never leave me. This one, Braveheart when William rides into the village after his wife, the '' it's not your fault & pondside monologue in Good Will Hunting. Along with those are some of greatest acting in the history of cinema. Robin Williams, Toni Colette, Haley Joel Osment and Patrick McGoohan all gave performances that to me were truly unforgettable.
