      @@AB0BA_69 don't know about him but I visited Akihabara first in 1999 and have been to Japan since then more then 20 times. While most stuff had a alltime low around 2004-2006 prices started rising due to RUclips and Retro fame more then a decade ago and had again a surge during Corona.
      So I had the "privilege" to experience the price development for more then 20 years now.
      lots of stuff that cost like 100-2000 Yen in the past decade are now 10.000-20.000 Yen games behind glass shelves. Most of those games used to be available in huge "low budget" baskets back then..
      Mind you some game systems had a bigger price development then others. and it ofc depens on the games too.

    I was told (& I can’t confirm this) that Super Potato is a tourist trap & they jack the prices for tourist. If you want good deals on retro games go to Hard Offs or Book Offs in Japan. I went to Japan back in 2008 & again in 2009. I wish I had this info back then (well don’t know if Hard Offs existed back then). Also the Japanese definition of broken can be just missing stuff, so it is a good idea to pickup cheap broken hardware to be refurbished & good items can be found in those bargain bins. Have a nice hunt & good luck!

    • @AssaulteedOne
      @AssaulteedOne Год назад +7

      Book off, TRADER, Mulan, Retro Game Camp, and Surugaya are all great places to shop for used and retro stuff like games -- esp of you are a tourist, most places off Tax-Free discounts when you spend over 5,500yen & show your passport, so it's always worthwhile to read the signs & ask "Tax-Free desu ka?" when you go up to the counter. You will save a TON of money this way. Just make sire you bring it out of the country with you & you are good to go.

      Those stores in Akihabara and Den Den Town that everyone and their mom has done a video of are really only for people who have more money than time or can't be bothered to do the research to go anywhere else. For example, you can pay 2700 yen for one of those loose Pokemon red carts at Super Potato or find one at a Bookoff/Hardoff for 500-800 yen.

      Hate to break it to you but Hard Off and Book Off's in major cities are now tourist traps. You can thank youtubers for that lol. If you want deals, go to actual small run second hand stores not in major cities...If you want selection, stay in the cities.

    I went this year to Japan and Japan is so awesome for retro game hunting. I visited every retro game store I could find. For Mario Land, I have a good tip: The USJ (Universal Studios Japan) attractions officially open at 9 am, but you can enter the park itself before that time. Once inside, you can explore everything without limitations (Mario Land would be the best choice).

    😢 I WANT!!!!!! 😢 - I am SO JEALOUS!! I know SO MANY people that went to Japan this Spring and Summer, but I just don't have the $ for a vacation like that... maybe I'll just move there LOL
    I didn't even know you were going.. I would have helped you out with places to go and see in Kyoto, I've learned so much about the Ancient Capital over the past few years.... But I don't think it would be my FIRST CHOICE of locations for my First Japan visit.. it's just too 'touristy' and expensive, so I would have to go there in the off season and I'd want to make it an extended stay.... There are just too many temples I want to visit and see in person....
    But as far as a quick 'tour' of Japan, especially being partially 'game themed' you picked the THREE BEST LOCATIONS IMO .... but as you just showed us, it was HELLA CROWDED!!! - But I had NO IDEA that 'Super Nintendo World' even existed!!! Or that Universal Studio teamed up with Nintendo like that.... MIND BLOWN!!!!
    - I'm a bit confused tho... did you NOT pick up ANYTHING in this first video? You seemed to tell us all about the stuff you WISH YOU PICKED UP, but didn't say that you bought anything.... But I guess that's the hard part about not pulling the trigger - the grass ISN'T ALWAYS GREENER, ya know? Well I hope you DID eventually find some good deal in Tokyo... but I'm gonna say that I'm like 99% sure that whatever you did get, it was priced for tourists :( - You'll find a LOT of REALLY RARE and AMAZING things in Akihabara stores, but you won't find great deals very often....
    - I feel like they were probably cheaper in the 90's and early 2000's but now it's just as expensive as any other Megalopolis around the world.... in other words 'how cheap do you think buying rare video games and systems in downtown Manhattan would be?" and Now that being a 'gamer' has fairly 'mainstream' and everyone has access to the internet, going to Tokyo to find cheap stuff (in the gaming world) just isn't a thing anymore.... AND as a few youtubers demonstrated after going to Computex in Taiwan, even going to Hong Kong and even mainland China isn't gonna find you ANY great deals anymore... globalization has pretty much KILLED THAT when it comes to TECH, not just GAMES.
    - - ANYWAY... THANK YOU SO MUCH TITO!!!! This was a REALLY FUN look at Osaka (ESPECIALLY THE CASTLE!!!

      Hey I’m so glad you enjoyed the video and thank you so much for the comment! I did pick up some things in Osaka but I was going to do a single video at the end that shows everything! Stay tuned buddy and I hope you get to visit Japan soon 👍

      but it stil is a retro paradise not only video games but also a lot of other areas. Japanese folks tend to take great lenghts in keeping their stuff at best conditions even if old and not needed anymore.

    Oh I see you didn't go to any HARDOFFs in Osaka... they have a Junk section with untested electronics so you could get some amazing deals as you have the knowledge and tools to fix stuff. I bought a "broken" (just needed some cleaning) PS3 controller for less than $5 and a Nintendo DSi with broken shoulder buttons for around just $10! I hope you went to HARDOFFs in Kyoto and Tokyo! And also, Summer is the worst season to travel to Japan... Autumn, Spring and Winter are definitely more enjoyable!
