I hailed from Benue State, from the Tiv speaking part of the state. We're all aware that winning politics and election is a game of majority. But I have been speaking very loud on the issue of political marginalization of the Idoma people of Benue State. It is unfair, unjust that after 46 year of the creation of Benue State, an Idoma person has not gotten to the number one seat in Benue. I Plea with my Tiv brethren that in the spirit of equity and oneness, they should support an Idoma Governor to immerge in 2023. This will Forster a strong relationship between the two tribes and give Idoma a true sense of belonging in the state.

😀 You have a point, on the Senatorial shift or rotation between the Egede and the Idoma is very true. But these political differences can be addressed, if governor is going to zone C the Idoma will have to shift the Senate seat to the Igedes, Just like the way the Tivs also rotate the Senate seat seat within the Senatorial seat.

  • @joeyternaagor6457
    @joeyternaagor6457 2 года назад +2

    Equity indeed!
You give over 50 minutes of one sided broadcast time to advocates of one tribe's cause to rant against another tribe and you call that equity?
Secondly, if the Idomas make it about tribe, then they really do not have a strong leg to stand on to make that case in an electoral environment in which the Tiv make up 75% (3.2 million) of the 4.2 million population of Benue from the 2006 population census.
Thirdly, between 1979 and 1984, one of two Idoma Senatorial Districts included a part that comprised Tiv constituents who were a minority in the district, they never screamed injustice or inequity.
Fourthly, in the 30+ years of military rule in Nigeria, at least 7 Idoma military officers served as military governors and 2 as ministers while only 3 Tiv military officers served as military governors in the same period and each of them only briefly.
Fifthly, running to the media and to outside authorities and audiences to misinform, mislead such audiences so as to pressure, browbeat and demonize the Tiv into taking actions to pacify Idoma demands, rather than working together to build trust will only serve to harden the Tiv position of suspicion as to the real hidden agenda behind such pressure tactics.
From 1996 when Nasarawa state was created, for example, all of its governors (military and elected from 1999) have been Muslims even though the Muslims are not in the majority in the state, the Christians in Nasarawa are not yelling injustice or discrimination but quietly organizing to change their election calculus. There is nothing unique about the Benue set up.
When Benue state was created, the early leadership positions were dominated by Idomas and Igalas who formed part of the state at the time - Attorney Generals, Judges, Magistrates, civil servants, etc.
It is by the overwhelming advantage of their numbers that has enabled the Tiv to overcome the deficit that they had just decades ago.
So, when the Idoma choose to blame the Tiv while casting themselves as victims, when they demand that the Tiv make them feel a sense of belonging, when they only emphasize their expectations of beneficial political or elective public offices to be a duty solely for the Tiv to fulfill or to help them realize such expectations but are silent on their corresponding duty to engender and sustain a relationship of trust between them, when they are constantly badgering the Tiv with charges and allegations of unfairness, injustice, etc., is that the setting in which they would cede political leadership to another group if the situation is reversed?

Well spoken sir. They don't want to understand. Not to forget this that we are the fourth largest ethnicity in Nigeria and we are hardly known for ANYTHING. If not for this Governorship seat that have made us popular, many feels the State is dominated by the Idomas. They call us northerners (aboki's) even though the Idomas are more in to the Islamic worship than we, the Tiv people.

@@homdanielterungwa9183 Thanks for your comment but what is your source or authority for your claim that we are the fourth largest tribe?
And if we truly are, which we are not, and in a country of over 300 tribes, why do we still say we are a minority tribe then?
Of the 9 leading tribes in Nigeria, the Tiv rank 7th not 4th. I have been hearing this 4th largest tribe claim for a while but no claimant ever cites any statistical or official source to verify it so it must be just a wishful claim that makes us feel good psychologically.

@@joeyternaagor6457 When it comes to census as you know, there are a lot of false figures. We are not united as you know and are not also loved by the other dominant tribes in the country especially. So we have been relegated in this pattern of political scheming. We must sit up on this. That is the truth.
Listen now then sir, when you go round the country, you find Tiv people in virtually every city's nuke and cranny. We are represented everywhere in a large number spread across the country. How many of the Ibibios', Ijaws' and the Kanuris' can you find represented in almost all the states of this country in such a large number like the Tiv people? Check sir. In Taraba, Nasarawa it is even more clearer. We are not just united and have been mistreated like this even in sharing of the nations wealth. Even the Idomas have gotten more federal appointments and more numbers in the military, under the Benue ticket than the Tiv people. Lets use the tongue to count our teeth. @@homdanielterungwa9183 My dear brother, when you doubt and disparage official records but place reliance on your own made up claim, do you really expect others to accept that?
We tend to prefer dwelling on generalities, insinuations, vagueness, innuendo, to imply, etc but fight shy of specifics, facts, to support our claim but as you may have seen in my original comment, when you rest on facts, it’s often difficult to have people without similar or superior facts shake you in an encounter.
What exactly is the benefit or advantage that you think we will gain by our claim of being the fourth largest tribe as I can’t seem to figure it out myself.
As for us been everywhere in the country, so are the Ibos but they don’t claim to be the largest tribe on the basis of that measurement metric. Nor do the Yoruba who are also everywhere not just in Nigeria but all over the world claiming the number one spot.
There are over 300 distinct tribes in Nigeria. That we rank amongst the top 9 out of this number is a big deal and there is no need to shunt ourselves psychologically to number 4, because as you are no doubt aware it adds no benefit to us. We have only 2 Senators in the National Assembly, we have only one Governor but numbers 1 - 3 (tribes) have more by virtue of their actual, not assumed, numbers. So let us learn to play the game according to the rules already set by those ahead of us and more numerous than us - using administrative and political devices such as administrative divisions, eg, states to expand our group benefits.
Idoma have being agitating for Apa state, if they get it, they’ll have a population of just about one million but they’ll still have the same one Governor, and they’ll have 3 senators, etc same as we the alleged fourth largest tribe, so my question again is what’s the benefit of this nice sounding fourth largest tribe claim to us, is it that it makes us look like what the Idoma say, big for nothing, is that it? Let’s fight for more states for our community and not be hanging on to a claim with no known and doubtful benefit to us.
We don’t need to make up our own figures just to counter official figures that we do not like because they make us feel good. That’s how one secondary school student used to do, whenever he didn’t have an answer to an exam question, he would make up his own question and proceed to answer it and when he couldn’t even formulate his own question, then his standard answer was always “This is what they have not taught us but I am just writing” 🤣🤣🤣, needless to say that he always got a giant X for his ‘creativity’. We are, should be, better than that. Be blessed.
