I want to tell you, I really like your tutorial videos. You don't UM and UH through them like some other people do in their videos (it's really annoying); you give the instructions in a clear, concise manner, with very little incidental commentary, which I appreciate.
Really enjoyed making one of these for my munchkin. We couldn't find a vinyl we liked and he's really into Transformers. So, we found 2 patterns of cotton fabric and used Iron-on Vinyl on the right side of each piece. To keep it from being floppy, I used cardstock in between the 2 fabrics with Heat-N-Bond on each side. It came out perfect on the first try, and the munchkin loves it! He now has his own Transformers traveler's notebook. Thank you for an awesome tutorial!
i watched a lot of videos on how to make a travellers notebook and yours is so good, I actually think I could and will make one using your instructions, which are clear, precise and great, thanks so much for showing us
Really liking the video although I admit I cheated and only used one layer for my journal and I also made mine a bit wider so that it particularly wrapped around on one side but it was really useful to have your video as a starting point to give me the confidence to create my own journal and knowledge that I could then build upon to create a journal more attuned to my own preferences. I also really like how it gives people the ability to experiment by giving people the base knowledge for creating their own travellers journals that they can then build upon to create journals in different styles and sizes so they can see what suits them without spending a hundred or so dollars on something they might not like. So thank you so much for the tutorial. :) Tip for those want to make a different journal size and thus don't know how much elastic to use or simply don't have a big hole punch but do have needle with a large eye hole laying around. Try copying the way Sea Lemon threads her journal but instead of starting in the middle start from one end and work your way to the other side, simple double back on yourself on the centre hole and hold the string to keep the loop then check how large you want your loop to be like Sea Lemon did by looping the elastic round the journal before continuing to thread the elastic through the remaining holes. Once done shift the position of the cord around a bit till it's all laying flat, adding the book will also help the fabric lay flat, before cutting and tying the elastic off once you're happy with it. To find a large needle try looking to see if you or anyone else in your family has one of those needle kits that always have a heap of different needles of all sorts of sizes in them or try looking in places like Big W. I was able to use a large Mattress needle from a Home Needle kit. I did have an awl to get me started on the hole but the needle was so sharp that I likely didn't need it. You could also use a large plastic wool needle, or whatever they are called, you'll simply have to get the hole started perhaps by making a small hole with a knife (be careful you don't make it to big) or the biggest needle you have then using a pen or pencil to enlarge it? I haven't tried it so that's just a suggestion since I don't know if it'll work. Also for threading the needle if you need to use a needle threader but only have one of those flimsy needle threaders that are common in most sewing kits make sure you hold on to the place where the thin metal is connected to the threading device and take it slowly since pulling to hard will be more likely to pull the threading wire out of the device instead of threading your needle.
I was going to write you about my BINDING EMERGENCY!!! I saw a traveler's journal on Amazon with x-stitching on the spine. It was made of leather (but I'm allergic to leather. I really wanted this journal! I wanted to ask you how to make one without leather (EMERGENCY). I found this video... and I like it even better! Thanks!
I cannot thank you enough for this tutorial!! I love that everything is soooo clear and that also has the measurements in cm! Thank you so much for sharing!!!
I have been devouring your videos!! I'm thinking that this template would make a really great writer's notebook. That way I can have tiny booklets for different categories of notes and catalog those when they're full. Brilliant job!
This is such a brilliant idea! As someone who travels a fair bit, I've been looking for a good traveller's journal that would last me my trips, but this is a brilliant idea! Thank you!!
you are amazing in making video's! you talk so clear and a little slower than others so i can completely understand it. its really helpful for foreigners to understand thank you! :)
Thanks for getting to the point and clearly showing how to do it. Great video! Can't wait to make mine to help me organize my life and always have a sketchbook with me.
I just learned about bookbinding in my BFA program and found your tutorials through a search for coptic book binding and I'm so glad I did because I am definitely going to use your tutorials to help me make some Christmas presents this year. So, thank you! PS I'm going to try out paper making with all my scraps. So excited!
Thanks for finding me and welcome! I would have loved a source like this when I was getting my design degree so it's cool to see they are now helping a lot of students :D Have a look at my playlists to get a more organized look at my videos and have fun making!
You are a great teacher! Clear and concise. I love the way you added the elastic. And then added an extra elastic. Never saw that before. I love making TNs. Will try your way next. BTW, you are so pretty! 💜😎🇺🇸
This is very informational! I was wondering how people make these things (like down to supplies and etc) and am glad I found this! You are wonderful. If i ever get around to making one of these as a project, I can refer to this video. You really broke down to what I could use. Awesome! This could be something me and my nieces could do together during the summer.
I had some old notebooksthat were used up, and I followed this tutorial to turn the covers of the notebooks into travellers' notebooks. Thank you for this tutorial.
Time to search for materials very soon so I can make a whole dang spellbook for my D&D wizard. It sounds pretty useful to have something this customizable for it and it sounds fun to make.
Thank you for posting this. :) I now want to run to the store and buy all the supplies to buy and make my own. Travelers notebooks have been my new obsession.
I absolutely love this idea, going travelling round Europe in a month with my boyfriend and I love that we could keep it all together but have our separate notebooks, love it and will be making one before we go!:) X
This is the first video of yours I've seen and it was great! You made it look so easy, I can't wait to make one :) I've subscribed and can't wait to watch all of your other videos!
So so easy! Thank you so much, I am using this method, it's so versatile. Thank you so much for sharing your considerable talents and skills. You are very generous.
I absolutely love your videos! So well done and easily understood. I am curious as to where you purchased the vinyl. I cannot find any vinyl that isn't the flannel-backed type. Thank you so much! Keep up the excellent work, and many thanks for all you do!
Jenni Espinosa Thanks! I found the vinyl at a local fabric store. You might find it easier in larger quantities from local non-chain fabric shops, maybe do a search and see if you have one around you :)
Thank you so much for sharing :) I have some inserts but don't have the cover yet, and the price is expensive. So i'm going to make it by myself. The explanation is clear, and the subtitle is really helping for me because English is the tertiary language in my country.
i used a fiberfill to make the cover it was really fluffy i really ise this for travelling and if im sleepy i ise the notebook as the pillow it really works thanks!+sealemon
Great video. Quick and to the point. With no knot to prevent the outside holder loop pull back through the cover, do you ever have issues with the notebooks falling out? I was surprised there wasn't a knot, though I liked the way you routed the cord.
Hello I am from Hong Kong I love to watch this video very much because it really help me to save my notebook I can use like a notebook file I love it!!! hope u can teach us more
Hi, SeaLemon! I absolutely love your DIYs and book binding videos because like you, I have a notebook and sketchbook fetish. But I was wondering if you could make a video teaching us how to make our book covers or where to buy them for both hardcovers and softcovers. I've seen you make them, but you don't really elaborate on them too much. Thanks!
Just want to comment on a 4 year old video that this is really top notch tutorial. My (purely personal opinion) only critique is the choice of colors. Shiny black on neon green, brown on pink......
I want to tell you, I really like your tutorial videos. You don't UM and UH through them like some other people do in their videos (it's really annoying); you give the instructions in a clear, concise manner, with very little incidental commentary, which I appreciate.
Motherof Chaos exactly I hate it when there like um this and then u you uh do this
Very well put! It's an art to teach like #sealemon
Well, time to dig into Sea Lemon's channel again cause I'm back into the DIY void, babies
Really enjoyed making one of these for my munchkin. We couldn't find a vinyl we liked and he's really into Transformers. Your method for doing the outside elastic loop and inside for the books all with one piece is so smart! I love it!!

The way you threaded it with the elastic was rather interesting! Tysm for making this video.
Loved your video (I hate when people talk and talk and you go to the point, damn well thought)
I am glad that I found your channel and this tutorial. The person that I will get to make this for me may not be.
This is such a brilliant idea! As someone who travels a fair bit, I've been looking for a good traveller's journal that would last me my trips, but this is a brilliant idea! Thank you!!
Thank you so much! I've just made two of these, one for me and one for someone else, and your instructions were so clear and easy to follow.

Really liked this tutorial. This is not exactly what I'm going to do, but it gave me VERY strong direction on how to make my own.
Time to search for materials very soon so I can make a whole dang spellbook for my D&D wizard. It sounds pretty useful to have something this customizable for it and it sounds fun to make.
Love all your videos! Have watched this one almost 5 times in 2 weeks. Very professional, and to the point. Keep up the great tutorials!
Thank you for posting this. :) I now want to run to the store and buy all the supplies to buy and make my own. Travelers notebooks have been my new obsession.
Simply love this video! You put info like everything in here. Love that black notebook, the colors pops!
This is a great idea. I like the idea of the Midori notebook, but in the UK it's £40 for what is basically a rectangle of leather and some elastic.
simplicity at its best and I love the ease of explaining thank you
I absolutely love this idea, going travelling round Europe in a month with my boyfriend and I love that we could keep it all together but have our separate notebooks, love it and will be making one before we go!:) X
Great and easy! You can also use a cropodile from We Are Memory Keepers to make the holes.
so happy seeing you smile more in your videos lately ! =) keep it up!
I just found your channel and I cannot cope with the amazingness of this
Our first book is now filled with a lot of stories but is now full so need a new one and I think we are going to try this
I like ur style of threading it.
Haven't seen that style used before.
not only you are so talented- you are so pretty 😍
To keep the elastic that closes the notebook you can wrap a piece of tape around it to temporarily keep it in place until you are done
Thanks for the clear, concise, tutorial! Very well done and the links are awesome to have handy.
This is the first video of yours I've seen and it was great! You made it look so easy, I can't wait to make one :) I've subscribed and can't wait to watch all of your other videos!
love your tutorial videos. You show what is important and your comments and the way you describe all is easy to follow. Thank you very much....

Amazing! If I have this things I'll surely do this notebook. It's practical and beautiful.
So so easy! Thank you so much, I am using this method, it's so versatile. Thank you so much for sharing your considerable talents and skills. You are very generous.
Excellent presentation! Very well organized and easy to follow!
I was just wondering about a notebook for writing about my traveling and here it is😊😊😊
This is really cool! It looks really fun to make
Hey SL , instead of using thread I used a big rubber band to close it and hold the journals in too.
This is probably the best thing ever. Thank you for your tutorials!
You're a treasure in YT!
I love this ❤️
I really enjoy your tutorials, especially the journal making ones. You do a great job, thank you.
You are amazing!! All these journals are so great and beautiful!

That looks really nice.
Great video. Quick and to the point. With no knot to prevent the outside holder loop pull back through the cover, do you ever have issues with the notebooks falling out? I was surprised there wasn't a knot, though I liked the way you routed the cord.

Hi! Most of my book covers are simply made from cardstock paper and board :)
I love your work holygeez, it always helps me to create some creative stuff for gifts and more. ty😘😚✨✨
Hi! I was one who suggested lace print drawing and was wondering how to add a lock and key to homemade notebooks! :)

Fantastic tutorials, thank you so much 😁
Very creative and useful. Thanks.
Just want to comment on a 4 year old video that this is really top notch tutorial.
My (purely personal opinion) only critique is the choice of colors. Shiny black on neon green, brown on pink......
great tutorial, thanks! by the way, can that heat and bond product be used to bond the paper to a suede leather cover?
You make it so easy. Thank you! ❤️
This is genius, and a great vegan alternative to the Midori journals. Thanks for this video!
Beautiful job!
Awwh, Sea Lemon. I absolutely adore your tutorials :3
