The development of tanks and armored vehicles depends on many factors, basic production costs, operating costs, repair and replacement, especially must be suitable for the terrain and climate of the country. Russia. It is foolish to think that the Russians cannot produce large tanks, equipped with many modern technologies. The Russians have never pursued perfection in tank production, selectively and accepting the trade-off to ignore unnecessary luxury standards to avoid causing costs and waste. The Russian tank manufacturing philosophy is very similar to the AK 47 guns, less accurate but still destructive and durable in all combat conditions, low production costs, easy to repair and replace. position and preserve. Just like in any tank on the field in there. Drones dominates tank there. This war has proven that tanks are not very effective anymore on a open terrain warfare.

The Allies captured various German tanks in WW2 & it changed nothing. The same will apply here with Leopard 2s. The biggest differences will already be know, mainly that Russians have to sit on their highly explosive ammunition while western tanks protect the crews from ammo cook-off. Don't forget that Leopard 2s (apparently the "best tank in the world" because they're German) have already had their asses handed to the in Turkey & I have no doubt that Russian military intelligence has already had a looksee.
im tired of seeing people say how the autoloader is the main cause of all the problems. what makes you think that a penetrating shot to the centre of a tank won't kill the crew, autoloader or not? the main reason is because all the loose rounds stored in the tank turret cause a chain reaction that ignites the carousel and causes the turret to pop
Leopard 2 may be arguably the best tank although I read an American report about the modified South Korean tank, forgot the name, black panther or something like that. The Korean tank excels basically on almost every aspect compared to the top 10 tanks in the world. However, no matter what tank is used on the battlefield, when the enemy goes nuclear, life expectancy of the crew is less than a few minutes. It may reduce radiation for 95%, but everything inside will be barbecued, no matter the thickness and composition of the armour. No chance to survive a nuclear attack in any tank within a radius of 4 miles.
@@DonJohnSpainyea, best tank doesn’t mean they are indestructible war machines. Attack will always be superior to defense, that goes even for armoured vehicles themself, the gun shooting will be always stronger than the armour.

The leopard is nothing new for Russia. Russia is the leader in tank building. The only lag is electronics. But here you can’t just take an object, study it, and create, for example, matrices according to a new technical process for thermal imagers and hollow ones, since this requires technology. Russia uses all the advanced approaches to tank building, they just don’t pass the Thunder Ministry of Defense, often simply because of the high cost. That is why Russia still does not use active defense systems (Afghanit / Trophy), although they were invented back in the 1970-80s in the USSR, like many other advanced technologies, which simply did not pay due attention ... Conclusion: there is nothing to study in old banks.

They probably already seen detailed blueprints when they where first designed. Because that’s just what happens. They wouldn’t need to pull an Old tank from ukraine.
There is nothing to learn from any of them. Russians build tanks for use against peer adversary that's modern. Leo2A4 isn't a modern tank. Also Russians kill tanks with arty and choppers, and no with drones. Tanks are for support of infantry.
Very clear and no nonsense video - good stuff! Everybody was hyping up the Leopard, and in the end it is just a tank - like you said real time change of precise targeting of artillery is the most effective - so long as that artillery is mobile ......
In my opinion the threat of this is exactly why the US is taking so long to get M1 in the fight, they have stripped everything that could possibly help russia off the tanks and still have it operated normally.
That's impossible. Well not impossible but impractical. If you watched the video he explained well, that Russia is not blind to the western tech. It has bought all the tech west has in tanks or gotten it some way or another. This is why there are even leaks on Warthunder game "Google Warthunder classified leaks". People leak all kinds of classified info just for a verbal dispute in a video game... For example, one dude leaked radar signature statistics for the newest Russian dog fighter plane...
Nah. ... The USA is just trying to avoid the negative PR that the Leopards are not currently experiencing. Remember challenger tanks are already in Ukraine?... Not a single one has stepped up to the fight.
From what i have read, US build new tanks for Ukraine, Not pulled from storage unlike other countries. So that's why it's taking so low to deploy abrams in ukraine, they still produce it Also m1 abrams export model won't have DU armor so it's protection will be just equivalent to leo2a4, kinda bad for modern rounds
One notable factor is that the Abrams tank variants that are going to fight in Ukraine don't have the depleted uranium armor on them. I doubt the US is holding them back for PR reasons as Abrams tanks have been lost in combat before (in the arabian peninsula for an example), and nobody really made a fuss about it back then. A tank is a tank and any tank could get destroyed in combat, be it Russian, American or anyone else's.
It would be more interesting for Russia, if Leopard 2 tanks had a washing machine. Seriously, its not just the machine, but also the women and men that operate it, that make it dangerous. Its a NATO tank for an army trained to fight like a NATO army. Russia could copy it, and it would be a disaster for years until the whole command and support chain adapts to it.

@@ASDeckard russian doctrine is built around mass mobilization and the idea that they can replace crews easily, not realistic with modern tanks and modern manpower

One thing Russians could possibly learn is how good the night vision equipment on the tanks are. They could use them to optimize thermal camouflage for their tanks in relatively small time frame.
The science behind them is well understood. Russia had the same tech on their T90s just in low numbers. All modern tanks more or less has the same tech... Just custom adjusted for their specific iron box.

7:30 the thing about sensor performance is that this war has shown definitively that both sides enjoy extremely advanced and effective battlefield surveillance. So for the first time in war, neither side can really "hide" their assets like this. The Tank sensors themselves won't be spotting targets, but a combined battlefield intelligence and spotting system of drones, aircraft (some NATO AWACS) and signals intelligence will be doing the spotting and relaying info by radio for the tanks. This is now apparent on both sides. this is why mines are especially effective, they alert and slow down forces for artillery to track and fire and then scoot away.

The problem with the leopard and almost every Western tank is that these tanks have been featured in as many advertisements as Soviet and Russian tanks have been in wars. I have nothing against Leopards, but these tanks only fully participated in two conflicts and in both it was a failure.
Think that says more about the users. Ngl. If you want something battle proven then pick a t72, chally 2, or abrams then. The leo 2 has very similar attributes to the abrams and chally so idealy they should preform similarly. But as we all know there's no such thing as an ideal war situation. Ukraine and turkey frankly is using them badly, or has no other options to how to use them. Which says alot about the war effort maybe on their side. Russia isn't the only one suffering. Both sides really seem like they're grasping at anything atm.
look russian tanks victorious in Grosny. Afghanistan Iraq ! won every battle, only tanks in world turrets not belonged to Army but to Air Force!! Stupid western designers never able to copy russian super duper tank1 Ha ha ha
Even though it's been upgraded repeatedly, the Leo 2 is still a late 1970's tank. The Russians probably already know most of the things about it that are a big deal. For Russia to benefit at all, they would have to fundamentally change the way they design their tanks (ie. dropping the carousel auto loaders). The Armata seems to me like it's going to end up as something with a tiny production run.
The carousel autoloader isn't a problem anymore in the Armata though, it is deep in the hull so it is harder to hit than a turret bustle autoloader/storage. Crew is also segregated from the ammo. Only downside I see is turret popping off when ammo is hit but the crew would still be alive to drive the tank. Ah we won't know though we're all mostly armchair enthusiasts
They needed to finish the last trials and they had to set up the production lines before mass production can begin. Though i ask myself the question how will the west mass produce their next generation of mbts ? The americans have only 1 factory that can make 12 tanks a month, even if they build factories in other countries the production wont incrase
For what it's worth the capture of strv 122 would help RU with perhaps fighting newer leopard variants they served as sort of the blueprint for the new leo2a7+ and leo2a8 series respectively also that roof armor package is the most interesting
The problem with a lot of the more high-tech aspects, such as thermal sights, is not just knowing what they are made from, but having a manufacturing process to make them. There is as much to learn in how to make some kinds of technology as in knowing what they are.

The Russians have no need to copy anything from the captured tanks, they only will have a look to learn how they can destroy these kittens even faster than they did before.
the Leopard 2 is already Widley available around the world, they already know everything they want about the tank. That doesn't mean they can reproduce it in any meaningful number
Capturing modern western equipment would benefit Russia for propaganda reasons but what's holding them back militarily isn't lack of equipment or the technical knowledge how to produce it. The blueprints for the 30 year old Leopard 2A6 doesn't really help when your society rewards loyalty over competence and so the previous owner of the tank factory wasn't rewarded for producing tanks but instead fell out a window and was replaced by Shoigys nephew. In the late 1980:s Russia began working on a replacement for the Soviet designed T-90, 35 years and many billions later where are the thousands of T-95:s and T-14:s?

I don't know what your point is, the T-90M is already on par with Leopard 2A7, with mobility being the most problematic part of the T-90M. I'm not going to comment on the rest, it would be a pretty big propaganda win, just as for Ukraine capturing a T-90M, of course that doesn't mean they'll learn anything from said tanks.
You are wrong they reward both loyalty and competence and i mean if you are competent but no loyal nobody will reward you or employ you thats kinda basic knowledge. The guy who fell from a window was Ravil Maganov the chairman of the oil company Lukoil. However Putin himself visited the hospital the same day, there are different scenarios for his death some belive it was a suicide others say he fell while smoking. The programs for the development of the t95 and other projects were stoped decades ago dew to lack of funding at the time.
From my time as a tanker, the only thing that was important was that we took either zeroed out or took our radios and JCR. Then maybe, if we even have them, leave a thermite grenade on top of the engine deck. If a tank is catastrophically destroyed(blows up in ammo cook off or just burns), then there wouldn't really be a need for either since there is a high probability of the radios and JCR to be FUBAR anyway. Then again, seeing the Russian logistically nightmare and their attempt to re-capture their own equipment at all. There is a slim chance they would even bother hauling back a disabled Leopard 2 anyway. The only thing important in a tank is the radios and JCR, since those have encrypted frequencies and Blue force tracking. I mean, the US sells it's old Abrams to the Australians and Saudis so...
But only a tank with its all terrain wheeled tracks and its ability to bring concentrated firepower to bear allows for assaults of heavily entrenched positions
They're not outdated. They're just not being used for what its updated mission set is. They're very useful for environments that their modern ttp's have them designed for. And new active protection systems rolling out now, may even give them an extended mission set that they were originally designed to do back in the day. That said, there's a reason why the marines are getting rid of many of their tanks. For any given Army, its probably much more useful to get 10+ ATGM teams/systems built onto Polaris ATVs wrapped in kevlar blankets than a single $6 million dollar tank. But it still has its uses, especially when not exposed in open fields/steppes that are characteristic of the entire Ukraine War.

@@MiG-31893 на новых т 90М и т 80БВМ поставили новую трансмиссию танк сейчас может набирать 24 км/ч задним ходом. Я говорю о двух последних партиях осени и начала зимы 2023 года.
A western tank from the 80s is what Russians can dream on. Fun fact when the new Russian tanks are capture Americans are like mehhh use it against them it’s useless to us we don’t like flying tanks
Did you watch the video? Even the A6 variants will have incremental improvements compared to Russian designs. The tech from the 80s is nothing interesting.
Captured equipment almost always have impact on long term strategies, rarely on the ongoing war effort. When the involved technology is still new and crude, captured tech could give a welcome initial push. But once on any advanced level, any gains will never be more than incremental. (Notwithstanding that incremental gains could be decisive between (almost) peers). But implementation requires time and resources. Development of new or next generation advanced weaponry generally takes decades. New information and insights (from 'stolen tech') usually only gets incorporated into the next-after generation of such systems. Which means not sooner than a decade and a half. So in the short and medium term, having your equipment captured and analysed isn't a problem. In the long term it can be devastating.
Even if Russia learned something new and ground breaking - what could they do with that information. They have next to zero ability to make new tanks at the moment. Wheres the Armada?? Wheres the terminator? If Russia was able to turn around reverse engineered tech and put it on the battlefield then surely they would also have the ability to get its modern tanks on the front. But they dont have the ability for either - which is why they are using ww2 tanks.
@@potheed29 propaganda? lol - nice copium. What a well thought out counter argument. Show me new tanks being sent to the front? You cant. Wheres the Armada? Not a SINGLE one has been used. Meanwhile there has been countless examples of 40+ year old tanks being sent to the front.
Leopard 2s have been around for for over forty years. The Russians most probably already have the blue prints. Both Russia and China have copied Western tech for many years. Yet Russia is still reliant on Western electronics and French optics. So I'm not worried.

The problem isn't one of technology, it's one of manufacturing. Their parts tend to be heavier to make up for the inevitable manufaturing defects. However citical points of failure are likely to be outsourced parts from the lowest bidder. An abrams can breakdown because of 8 cent fuses with poor connectors being used instead of 14 cent fuses. Both sides have been stealing from each other for so long there isn't probably anything they wouldn't already know. The most valuable thing on the tanks would be the software, IFF and encryption modules.
The west copied the German's losing design philosophy of complicated high tech equipment in short supply, while the Russians stick to their WW2-winning design philosophy of KISS, and quantity over quality.
You got that right. The Russkies haven't manufactured a single new tank in the past decade since the 8 t-14 Armata prototypes in 2014. Yep, it's true. If anyone wants to dispute this startling fact (and some do) then check out KABODA "Russia has a tank problem" first.

@keyratcane66 It is cheap easy to maintain and Mass-produced equipment that wins wars...not the better technology. Russia doesn't need to destroy western tanks, they just need to fly Drones into their tracks and that's it.

So that's why it's taking so low to deploy abrams in ukraine, they still produce it
Also m1 abrams export model won't have DU armor so it's protection will be just equivalent to leo2a4, kinda bad for modern rounds
@Kayzef2003 well that's because the British are afraid the Russians will get the full Chobam specs and DU rounds specs as well
It would be more interesting for Russia, if Leopard 2 tanks had a washing machine. Seriously, its not just the machine, but also the women and men that operate it, that make it dangerous. Its a NATO tank for an army trained to fight like a NATO army. Russia could copy it, and it would be a disaster for years until the whole command and support chain adapts to it.
I mean we're literally watching western trained Ukrainians in ancient battle damaged Russian built tanks outperforming more modern updated Russian tanks.

2. Leopard in this conflict proved to be worse than Russian tanks .

@@SimplyVanis that's not true bud. Why you make such stupid claims? Did you saw the numbers? The tech? Is that why western weapons are being ditched by Ukraine and calling them junk?

The Ukrainian farmer: Hold my volka!
Russia would sent them to Kubinka Tank Museum to say hello for their 1943 grandpas😂

the only thing that russia can learn from leo2a6 is the composition of the armor. the rest is already well known.
that's for sure he doesn't need to learn, this is the creation of a super-heavy tank, the lateral projection of the armor of which is 4 times smaller than that of the average T72 tank, according to this Leo2A6 breaks through with a conventional land mine from the side, so the Ukrainian will weigh this armor with a contatom1 to somehow protect himself! there is no automatic cutting machine yet, there are no land mines in the arsenal, it's just creepy, Leo is an unfortunate tactic
russian engineers will show stupid germans how to make good flying turrets(:-)
Armata is just mous 2.0

American military space program atlas v uses only Russian engines and helicopters, tubular tv, pyramidal forms and radar reflection is all Russian tech . We beat you to space and even today your dream catcher is 50 year old Soviet project “spiral “ and vehicles bor-1 through bor-4 . That’s why 5 patriot batteries are destroyed and every nato weapon sent to Ukraine . Russia has 2 hypersonic missiles and the usa has none.

Think anything with encrypted frequencies or sensitive information got removed before delivery anyways. So Russia won't be getting that either.
To be honest these tanks are already outdated.
