    Its a great ending because it leaves audience members feeling disappointed or angry- they wanted Strauss to survive and rekindle his relationship with his kids. They wanted Sam to feel justice. It’s a sad ending but not a bad one at all. I’m glad it ended in a dark way- not every tv show or movie is peaches and cream.

      Great ending ppl are just soft and hate getting a sad ending. This is why studios are afraid to deviate from the familiar stories which I think needs to end. Love unexpected twists. Game of Thrones did it at the end of its first season and ppl got over it and loved the show still, until season 8

      I don’t know what superhero’s have to do with anything. “Great acting” can’t fix a messy plot and unsatisfactory ending. It’s worse then sad, the ending is pointless. 9 episodes of a slow lead up to end with nothing. The antagonist is little more then a plot device. He and his mother/father. It could’ve been some random dude and you never saw his face and it wouldn’t have changed anything. His entire arch is adds nothing.

    • @Nickporter17
      @Nickporter17 Год назад +4

      @@cl20v87 he's a freaking serial killer! What do you want him to do, become Gandhi? He started as sociopath narcissist and ended as one. But through therapy he was able to become self aware and begin to have empathy. He chose to stop himself because he finally understood how much he hurt people. And don't tell me you expected him to lock himself up. Personally I never saw that as an option and I loved it. Like ofc he could kill himself or keep killing, most people wouldn't turn themselves into the police, but making yourself a hostage of your own is insanely interesting.

    Even though the quality was high, acting, script, everything, but I really got hooked when streaming it.
    I even watched a couple episodes when I first woke up and way past my bedtime, but being a simple minded guy, a lot of my addiction involved the excitement of careening towards the final episode and seeing the loose ends tied. I felt like I was purposely lead to expect a traditional ending, but after all the effort I put into watching, it felt unfair to be denied the satisfaction of savoring Carell's ultimate release from his prison and having my hunger cured as a reward for my investment in it. I don't quite understand if it was ended on a deeper , more meaningful note or was intended for us to feel compassion for the murderer who really lacked any redeeming qualities, portrayed ingeniously by the actor. I felt ripped off, regardless of the extremely high quality of the production. I feel like I want to tell the world the ending to avoid anyone having to go through what I did.

    Just because people aren’t satisfied with the ending doesn’t mean people have bad tastes and only want Hollywood endings. The conclusion of a story should feel satisfying when the story threads hit their resolutions and there’s a several threads that in my opinion don’t get tied up very well. I loved every episode and even the last one was one of the most stressful finales to watch but to see Sam kill again at the end just felt like dr Strauss fails one last time and Sam gets to keep going on being a villain while Strauss two kids lose their father now. While Sam says oh chain me up but it still feels like well at some point he’s just going to ask to be let loose again. I think I would have been more satisfied at the end of his mother chains him then calls the police so that she can finally protect her son and avenge those people in a way that doesn’t mean she turns on her son but again just finds a way to finally protect him and his victims and Sam can be retrained and also feel the remorse of what he did.

    • @THE-X-Force
      @THE-X-Force Год назад +3

      The mother *obviously* calls the police, and Sam will be locked up for the rest of his life. The show makes that perfectly clear. He *gave* her they key. After that, she is the one who effectively has him chained. I don't think you can call out the writers (or anyone else) for an ending that did everything but literally spoon-feed you an epilogue.

    • @GabeSutton21
      @GabeSutton21 Год назад

      I don't see it as dr strauss failing, he knew there was no helping sam. Therapy is for people who can mentally find a way to overcomes obstacles. Its not going to stop a psychopath from murdering people. He knew there was no helping sam which is why he began to speak more freely in the end because he was realizing that he more than likely was not going to survive. He told him jail would be the only way to truly force him to reflect on himself because he would be physically incapable of going on a murder spree and acting on all those impulses he has. The ending was disappointing in the sense that everyone was hoping he would end up surviving somehow, but it was still an amazing show and reflected a far more realistic outcome. In real life the likelihood of people escaping a situation like that is 10 to 1. In movies its 9 out of 10.

    • @lpr5269
      @lpr5269 Год назад

      I don't think the problem is just the ending itself. It's the whole concept of kidnapping a shrink to help you to stop killing people and then you are going to have to kill the shrink to not get caught. On the other side, Alan is trying to convince Sam to let him go despite being an eyewitness to a murder he committed and knowing about all the other ones. In other words, there was no possibility of any other outcome.

This is so utterly unconvincing it’s painful to watch. You know the pain. Like Lucille Ball doing things so ridiculous you felt embarrassed vicariously. Hers was intended and brilliant. What this demonstrates is that Hollywood politics are alive and well. Yaffa me’od, tinseltown.

    The ending makes the whole thing pointless. Someone who had nothing to do with anything was dragged into a situation and lost everything, for literally no reason. It’s not about a good “Hollywood ending”. The ending completely negates everything that came prior. There was no point.
    The main character might as well have never existed. There’s no resolution, no conclusion, no justice it’s all pointless. A lead up with no pay off. The few people who call it good, I think say that because your suppose too. High quality value and big name actor. But that doesn’t change the fact that there’s no story.

    • @moss_yt
      @moss_yt Год назад +7

      Saying that the main character might as well have never existed negates his whole character arc up until that point, as well as all of the loved ones he left behind! He was a man who loved his wife and kids and who had a breakthrough with his son before his passing, all the while trying to survive and have therapy sessions with a serial killer. Therapy that actually worked! Not in a way that his desire to kill is gone, but in a way that he can't harm anyone else ever again. There's no way Sam would've gotten to that point without Strauss. Strauss got to choose when and how he went out, he wasn't chained up for 10 more years, but he was still able to reconcile with his son posthumously. And his son went to therapy as to not accidently harm himself or his kids with his untreated trauma, which could have continued the cycle of pain to his own sons.
      I can't change your opinion, but I'll assure you that I don't think the show and ending were great just because of the big names.
