    I appreciate your insight and your extensive 1st hand experience w/ various Barbour jackets. As I’ve mentioned in prior reviews, you are arguably the most comprehensive reviewer of the brand on the internet. I’ve been on the fence trying to narrow which jacket would fit my lifestyle , (Midwest city, walking regardless of weather conditions short of torrential thunderstorms ). I’ve narrowed it down to either the Ashby or Bedale. I’m going to Orvis to fit check each w/ chunky jumper and denim jacket as optional will be primary layering in lieu of a packable puffer or liner. RUclipsr Cee Are Dee did a great review titled “The Barbour Ashby Waxed Jacket. Fit, Features and Are They Worth”.

    I just bought an Ashby, and I hate the Nylon sleeves too! I've heard that you can ask Barbour to change the lining in the sleeves from Nylon to cotton(not a free service of course), and I'll definitely need that.
    BTW, I think the vent hole are actually very useful when I riding my bike, they allow winds blow through my body pretty well

      Your vent holes work on your Ashby!?

      @@olaf2046 Hi, when I'm riding a motorcycle wearing this jacket, I can clearly feel the wind entering it, especially at higher speeds. The effect is quite noticeable, especially considering that this jacket is relatively less ventilated. Are these airflows really entering my jacket through these three small holes? Honestly, I don't know.

    But why do you need to wear a jacket when it’s warm weather ?

    Hi, thanks to the content you make. I’m a little bit confuse about how many versions are from the Ashby! I have seen different videos, and I see also a light version. Can you please tell me what version is this one?

    • @olaf2046

      This is the original Mediumweight Waxed waterproof version. They also make a cotton/canvas lightweight version for summer. I think Vineyard Vines and JCrew sell those in the USA

    Olaf how much do you weigh and are you tall?
    I am 1.78 high and I weigh 70 kg I have narrow hips, I tried the size M, it seems a little big to me, unfortunately they did not have the S so I could not make the comparison, what do you think?

    Hi there, Could you tell me if the Barbour Waxed jacket loosens up with wear?

    • @olaf2046
      @olaf2046  3 месяца назад +1

      @OliverCasis Hi Oliver. Yes the wax jackets do stretch out a bit, especially across the middle back. If you find it stiff when new it will loosen up and feel more relaxed wearing. The only thing you cannot increase I'd the sleeve length. If the sleeves are too short it will always be too short.

    Hello great videos and Barbour reviews! Do you know the difference if any between Sage Green and Olive colors? Or are these names used interchangeably? Thanks 🙏🏼!

    • @gregsmith7821
      @gregsmith7821 Год назад

      Sage and olive are very diferent, take a trip to a barbour shop and look at the two, side by side, in the daylight.
      To my eye, Olive, is a distinct green, with slight brown undertones. Sage is black, with a sort of emerald sheen. Please note that these jackets all become lighter, as the oil/wax drys out. The Olive becomes a brighter green and the Sage, a dark gray, with green undertones.

    Ashby looks great on you! you will like it even better at 150# 😁. I have both a bedale and ashby, the fit of ashby feels great on my athletic frame.

    What are your thoughts on the Bedale SL (Slim Line) part of the White Label collection.

  • @martinwilliams1308
    @martinwilliams1308 2 года назад +3

    I would have gotten the bedale had it not been for the fit and the comically large collar. The only things that bothers me about the ashby is the polyester/nylon sleeve lining and the less-than-decent stitching on the sleeve cuff, but overall it’s a good jacket.

    • @MrJ1492
      @MrJ1492 2 года назад +3

      I would somewhat disagree by saying that it may be a good looking jacket and hence exactly what you look for, but I don't think it is a good WAXED jacket. If you want a reliable workhorse with good movement, breathability and water protection for the worst kind of weather go for a Bedale/Beaufort. If you want a nice looking jacket of the same style, but with "better" fit that will keep you somewhat weather-protected go for the Ashby

      hmmm, the collar doesnt seem that large to me. I am the only guy i knew at my height and weight (5ft 8, 205 pounds, athletic body) who bought and wears size 42 in the classic bedale. It is wide at the waist area but i know it will break in and contour to the body.

    • @MrJ1492
      @MrJ1492 2 года назад +1

      @@aamirh3567 I usually wear a size 40, but sometimes switch to a size 38 during warmer days if I’m nit wearing as many layers below. I generally don’t find the fit too be that bulky at all. It’s obviously not as tailored as an ashby, but it’s not ridiculous oversized and since the “baggier” fit is currently somewhat returning it also doesn’t bother me too much. I also think that form follows function and in that case the relaxed cut definitely gives it its proper functionality when it comes to layering up.

      @@MrJ1492 at 31 years of age, im getting used to a 'relaxed fit' after having bought tons of fitted jackets (like the ashby) but im sick of the movement being restricted, so right now a bedale seems baggy somewhat, i purchased it brand new 2 weeks ago so just going through the break-in period. Enjoy your barbour😏

    • @olaf2046
      @olaf2046  2 года назад +1

      Hey David! If you are on the fence and want a slim fit and you will not were more than two layers underneath get the medium. If you are layering for cold weather or wearing a suit underneath and then get the large.

    Took me an age to find this but it is without a doubt, the most helpful review of the Barbour Ashby, on the internet.
    Well done and thank you.
    I've been an outdoors man (fishing, hunting, climbing, cycling, walking, snowboarding, horse riding, etc.), all of my 55 years and would never recomend waxed cotton. There are so many better options, with modern innovation. They won't last as long as waxed cotton, which will last for generations. But you can expect a solid 10-20 years of superior fit and performance.
    That said, waxed cotton looks cool, so if you are slim/regular build and want a jacket to take to dinner, the Ashby is the one.

    Can you please suggest a website white I can buy the Barbour Classic Bedale Made in England version.

    • @gregsmith7821
      @gregsmith7821 Год назад

      Why not buy it directly from Barbour's website in the UK? If you go for the non-classic, 'Thorn-proof' version, you can even pay a bit more to add custom options, such as diferent linings or collars. All of these are made to order at the Barbour factory in South Shields, England.

    Opino lo mismo, es peor que bedale y peor que Beaufort. Tengo este modelo desde hace años. El interior de las mangas en nylon ha sido mala elección. Mi favorita en todo caso es el modelo New utility (mi primer Barbour)
