- Why Turn Perfectly Healthy Trees to Mulch?
Ever wondered why perfectly healthy trees are ground into mulch instead of being cut for timber? In large forests, small, non-commercial trees are often ground on-site using huge machines like drum mulchers. These powerful machines can have engines rated up to 600 horsepower, making quick work of trees and brush. This includes fallen trees, which not only have low economic value but can also attract pests like termites that could infect the surrounding healthy trees.
By grinding these trees on-site, they decompose naturally and enrich the soil, benefiting the entire forest ecosystem. This process is essential for maintaining a healthy forest and ensuring the growth of robust, thriving trees. The mulch created from these trees helps retain moisture, reduce soil erosion, and return valuable nutrients to the ground. So, grinding trees isn't wasteful-it's a smart way to protect and nurture our forests, ensuring they remain healthy and vibrant for future generations.

I didn't know there was a machine that ground up trees like that
They do this because there is no clean up. They also do this on lots too small to make it economical for timber
I watched this 3 times because of how cool that machine looks.
Humans will go any length to say that they’re doing good for the environment
They didn't say it was good for the environment.
It's good for growing new commercial grade lumber on private owned logging land.
Just like we're spending billions to "clean" the air... more like launder their books 💸
Logging can be good for the environment if done in the context of effective forestry management. It can help prevent forest fires and Allows Healthy Trees to grow and flourish.
I didn't know skid steers made 600 horsepower 😂
A 600hp skid steer? I'd like to see that! I call BS.
"Up to 600 hp", so yes that is probably not a 600 hp drum mulcher. It would still be nice to have.
And then they put a house on it.
So we're pretending the forest needs machines to become big, powerfull and healthy? Riiiiiiiight.
When they're manufactured forests, yes. Natural forests obviously handle themselves but most tree plantations are made of singular tree species so they require quite a bit of maintenance to ensure the highest yield.
Unsurprisingly nature does nature better lol
100 percent agreed
No, we’re saying that man made forests require maintenance. Brother, no one is buying a machine to try and maintain a natural forest. They only do this for forests that are part of businesses 😂
No one is pretending a forest needs machines to stay healthy 😂 you’re the only one saying that because of your ignorance.
@@misanthropicservitorofmars2116😂😂
wood chips, heating pellets, chipboard, paper, there is a lot you can do with small trees.
Never saw a 600 hp skid steer
this looks so fun to use
Everyone says that, until they lose an arm.
For every tree cut down there should be one planted" -AC Quarterback
I bet Tony Soprano could figure out another use.
They decompose naturally with a 600 horse power engine 😂😂
I would like to see 600 horses try to chip wood that well😂
When I see healthy wood resources made into pallets that are used one time and then are sent to dumpsters, this video does not mean much in the balance of natural resouces.😮
And the other trees are all like "I'll be good!! I'll be good!!"
So the forests need human intervention to stay 'healthy'?
😂😂😂
To reduce the possibility of forest fires.
The woodwaste is nothing more than fuel buildup which dramatically increases forest fire risk
I didn’t give you permission to use my video. Take it down or I will report.
The forest in Germany have no sticks on the ground.
Nothing to do with healthy forest.
It’s not essential for a healthy forest..
Logging old growth and obliterating everything else is good? Thank you Logging Association of America for my reeducation 😂
Do these start fires?
In a forest, termites are not pests, but part of the ecosystem. Get your info straight.
This is a lumber forest used to grow trees for wood and termite filled wood is pretty useless
@@pickle9232 makes you wonder how natural forests' trees survive, eh? turns out termites aren' the big villains in the story after all
Let’s be real. This is for clear cutting. 👎
the same reason I grind branches I trim for mulch.
Wood chips build the soil in gardens the same way, fastest way to great plants.
I don't any skid steer is pushing over 200hp if that. But cool video
Yeah let's learn the forest how to be a forest🤦. I think that after billions of years the forest knows better how to be a forest than we do😂
Yeah... I wouldn't call it essential. Nature had healthy forests and large trees ling before we showed up
Those machines are run via hydraulic fluid, so no real horsepower. Also, these are mostly used to clear land of diseased trees and overgrowth, which can lead to a much worse fire if one happed (look up the Yellowstone forest fire a few decades ago).
Not too be picky, but horsepower is a unit of measurement (for power) - it’s independent of the method used to deliver the power
Ooooooomg, what I could do with THAT!
Why? simple money.
Its almost like fallen trees decompose naturally. And low economic value seems to translate to homes for life to thrive.
These are used in timber forests used to grow trees to make lumber you don’t want lumber full of termites
Yeah just letting it grow and decompose naturally is exactly how you end up with fires like the terrible one we are still dealing with in new mexico there's been over 1000 homes lost and 30 square miles of fire swept devastation
@@MrCheaterpipethe southwest needs to get better at controlled burns. Ever notice we don’t have massive prairie fires in the Midwest? We do controlled burns of fields and prairies all the time.
@misanthropicservitorofmars2116 this was a forest fire not a Prarie fire
@@MrCheaterpipe I know. I’m asking why you guys don’t get better at managing that? Wildfires are a natural part of the ecosystems we inhabit. You gotta regularly burn them and construct them in ways that keeps them from affecting settlements. Why are you guys so bad at it out west?
Also provide fire to burn hotter and quick start for sun started or lightning started forest fires!😢
It seems counterintuitive.
😂 maybe they should do that in CA. It wouldn't catch on fire all the time
Land owners will never get a THING for their timber.
Great machine!
Not liking mainly coz, this isn't exactly productive 😒...
Lumber the trees and used them for even as charcoal should be way... better, mainly coz it's a kind of industry, meant more employments...
Return the nutrients?
More like doesn't want to invest in fertilizers, transportation and other hassle maintenance costs...
The obvious reasons, should go as to reduce the number of staffs to mainly for being cheap, or plain corruption...
People are wasteful
Imagine … just imagine …. Na I don’t wanna imagine.
I have something similar people pay a lot of money for you to cut their property’s like this and leave the big trees to grow
