I agree. I changed mine out with micro LEDs and they are nearly invisible but very bright. They keep the long, low drag bike look of the NRS. I hate the big mirrors and despise the ones on the Muscle. Look like bug antenna

I have a 2016 Night Rod, and I LOVE how it Looks and how it Pulls STRONG in ALL GEARS!! I LOVE the Comfort And Handling!! NIGHT ROD FOREVER!!!! My bike was a leftover 2016 Night Rod Special, all blacked out! The M109R (renamed the “Intruder”) is simply to long for my 5’81/2” frame. The Night Rod for me PERFECTLY!!!

    Cruza
Word or warning for a man so financially conservative. Bought a VRod new off the floor. 2 years later couldn't sell it for half of what I paid for it. Resale on them must be the worst of all Harley models. It was a fun bike but a investment nightmare. Other issue was gas mileage. I had half the fuel mileage as my buddies so I was always the guy needing to stop for gas. Its long gone and lesson learned. Afterward I bought 2 Panheads rode them and enjoyed each for 4 years. Sold each of them for 30pct more than I paid. Think about it. All I'm saying.

I own a v rod muscle. Never owned a night rod, but my buddy who owns a night rod rode my muscle, and he said he wished he would have bought a muscle instead. It's bigger and less manouverable than the night rod, which were his only complaints, but he said you could tell the muscle had much more power and torque. So far I've loved my muscle... only complaint I have is that you won't want to take it on long trips simply because the forward seating position isn't very comfortable for more than 30 minutes of riding.

I sold my Ducati 1299S and bought a 2016 Night Rod. It’s awesome, and is the only Harley they rides like a sports bike, 9000rpm redline, mine dyno‘ d at 128bhp with just some slip ons.
Camshafts bring it up to 140bhp+.
Great bikes, and solid engine. Ride one and see, you’ll love it if you’ve been used to sports bikes.

  • @KoRnNut

  • @mucho8486
    @mucho8486 6 лет назад +11

So funny. I just recently had the same dilemma. I was looking at both the night rod or muscle. I do like the air box on the muscle and the rear fender and integrated lights best. Which is one of the reasons I went with the muscle. On October 13, 2017 I bought my first Harley and it was a 2013 V Rod Muscle
    Good luck with your choice!!

Ok Cruza, since I like you I'm gonna help you out. About me; currently own a 2014 Honda Valkery, purchased new this summer with 4 miles on it, a 2006 Yamaha FZ6 (the beater) and ... a like new 2009 Muscle that I bought 2 years ago for $9500.00 with 2,200 miles on it. I thought it was a good deal since the bike looked new and came with V&H pipes which sound awesome-and a bike jack, bike cover and trickle charger ... And, even a HD kick stand puck. The bike now has 6k miles and other than the inaccurate fuel gauge (known) issue, not a problem so far. I can see me parting with the Yamie and even the Valk but the Muscle is here to stay - I simply love the looks of the bike and the power it has. To me Harley didn't pull any stops with this one. Dual exhausts, inverted forks, Brembos, Full steel braided lines, full LED lighting (except for headlight which I corrected) self cancelling signals, keyless start, ABS, folding side lic. plate holder and ... that -oh sooo fat- 240 on the back ... Talk about sexy!!! Not to mention the water cooled, Porsche designed power plant which was very hard desert tested. The looks of the muscle as YOU point out are way sexier than the Nightrod IMHO, although they both look good. My buddy (a former sport bike rider) rode mine and a year later he got a 2012 in Denim Black with 7K miles, he loves it - no issues with either bike yet. If you like the muscle I'd go with that. Personally if I had gone with the night rod I would have probably lived to regret it every time I saw a muscle. Also like you, I waffled between the Muscle and the M109R at the time (took the Nightrod off the list early on). But I'm glad I went the Muscle way since the 109 is truly beginning to show it's age and although is a great bike, it looks bulbous and somewhat cartoon like IMHO. (sorry M109 owners, I know that 1.8 Ltr. Is killer). The Muscle on the other hand still looks sleek and ahead of its time. I still get stares and thumbs up on it (as well as on the Valk), no one gives the Yamie a second look But that's an '06. In the future, the Yamie will be replaced by a 2017 or better Street Tripple since I do like the look and feel of the naked middle weight. But the Muscle is here to stay Baby.
Hope this help Cruza - you lucky I like you.

From what you have described between the two I think the Night Rod would be a better choice. Listening to those that have owned V-Rods they sounds like a great bikes. Not sure if it matters to you but Harley-Davidson stopped production of the V-Rod line and now focuses on their new Milwaukee Eight. Since you like a lighter feel of a sport bike the new Softail M8 line might be worth looking into. I only sat on a few (never ridden) but I must say it has a very light feel. All the people I have spoken to that have ridden them have said they are great handling bikes especially the Fat Bob. Since you already went to the dealership you really have nothing to lose by test riding a few. I ride a Touring M8 that weighs about 900 pounds and the torque/acceleration is great and the engine has been reliable for me and other owners I have spoken to. If not the M8 Softail maybe the sport/cruiser Ducati XDiavel with lots of torque and horsepower. Good luck in your search.

I bought a leftover 2016 Nightrod Special, with no miles and I absolutely LOVE my bike!! It’s Fantastic for cruising, looks absolutely STUNNING, and the only drawback (if you consider it one) is the skimpy backseat for a passenger on the Night Rod, which comes a little better on the V Rod Muscle. There you have it!!

I have the same. Bought it with 4k on the odometer last year. It now has 11k on it! Love the bike. I’ve made a few changes with more on the way. Front and rear air suspension, custom rear fender, center stand, 300 rear, handlebars with integrated cluster and custom wheels are just a few within the next year

I say night rod all the way. Especially knowing for sure the condition its in. Thats worth 2k to me. When i priced out the fender swap i believe it was about $500. You gotta replace the whole fender mounting assembly. Integrated turn signal/mirror assemblies are online everywhere and you can find some for under $150 fairly easily.

It’s always nice to get a different perspective and those bikes will definitely do that for you. It’s just a different kind of ride. I’m a Harley fan personally but I did come from a CBR 954rr. I loved my CBR and was unsure of the Harley but after a couple seasons I fell in love. The transition from fast to cruising was difficult though. Best of luck in your decision I’m sure you’ll be happy either way. But personally I’d go with the night rod.

I have a 2012 VRSCDX"NIGHT ROD". I bought it brand-new and love it. If you have any questions about the bike, just ask. I babied my for the first thousand miles then put on different muffles and screaming eagle tuner and tuned. Don't do screaming eagle tuner do the dynojet power vision. The screaming eagle tuner only plugs in to do tuning and the rest of the time it sits in a box in a closet somewhere. Do the K&N filter to with tuning. Dynojet tuner is great put one on x wife's bike and loved being able to interact with and loading different tunes. I still love my night rod and 35,000 on it. I am happy to answer any of your questions about the bike. Had mine up to 151mph and she's smooth as a sowing machine.

Here was a test between the M109r and V Rod back in 2001:
    MEASURED TOP SPEED
    V-Rod: 137mph
    M109: 128mph
    0 - 1/4 MILE
    V-Rod: 11.38sec
    M109: 11.62sec
    0-60MPH
    V-Rod: 3.52sec
    M109: 3.65sec
    0-100MPH
    V-Rod: 8.22sec
    M109: 8.87sec
    POWER TO WEIGHT
    V-Rod: 1:5.99
    M109: 1:7.26
    BRAKING 60-0 MPH (FEET)
    V-Rod: 109.5
    M109: 135.4 [w00t]
IN EVERY ONE OF THE MEASURES THE V-ROD OUTPERFORMS.

The Night Rod with the 180 rear tire, none of these 240 rear vrods. The first gen vrods were the best motorcycle harley ever made, and the original VRSCDs (Night Rod, not Night Rod Specials), had mid controls. So if you really wanna RIDE that V-Rod, the VRSCD Night Rod or VRSCR Street Rod are the only ones to get.

You should ride it before you buy it no matter what they tell you. Either bike is great, I own a NightRod but the muscle is awesome too. The riding position may throw you off and Harley parts are expensive but it's worth it. Both bikes can haul ass and rev high like you're probably used to. Harley's are highly customizable but they're are a limited number of parts for the Vrods since they don't make them anymore.
I also owned a Suzuki Boulevard, its a great bike but I've always wanted the NightRod.

This is from a Harley guy. If you want a light fast cruiser then the Indian Scout is the way to go. It's faster than the V-rod. I got a Dyna and my bike with a bolt ons and a tune will smoke a V-rod and my bike is probably 100 lbs heavier. I still think the V-rod is bad ass and wouldn't try to talk you out of it. I'd just make a suggestion based on what you seem to be looking for. I will say V-rod is definitely more tall guy friendly than a Scout though.

Honestly might rod is my kid if bike as well for 3 reasons.
    1. Blacked out (alot less maintenance/easier to repaint)
    2. Integrated lights are So SEXY(cheap/easy to mod in a million ways)
    3. The milage is the #1 reason. It's as new as new gets and saved you from breaking it in.
Either way your going to love it but it's easier to mod something you already love. Peace bro
    3.

IF YOU HAVE TO ASK US THEN YOU AREN’T READY! Like you said about the liter bikes, if you have to ask you don’t deserve it. Get what you want. What do you want? There’s no perfect bike. Which bike has more pros than cons? You only live once, the Ducati V4 is such a beautiful bike and is just a dream to look at ... you’ve gotta pay to play!
The night rod would make for more content and videos because it’s stock and you WILL make mods to it. It’s also practically brand new so the worry about maintenance and overall condition is reduced.
The V-Rod. One thing you need to know about it... USED BIKE. Also, rode by a SQUID!?
Also, most of your likes and dislikes seem to be based on appearance...? Have you rode either of these bikes? Seat position, drivability, maneuverability etc...

  • @epiclopez521

Night rod is nice, with it all being blacked out. But the v-rod looks way more awesome, and even more if you blacked out the V. Plus you'll save more $ blacking out the V rod than you would doing all the upgrades you want on the Night Rod that the V has... Thats just my opinion Cruza which is good one. Think about it🤔...

I just bought an 07 night rod a few months ago with only 22k on the motor. I love the blacked out look of it, with an aftermarket 2 to 1 exhaust. I always have people watching me as I ride past them, don't know if it's for the looks or the loud exhaust. Just make sure the water pump is in good working condition, from what I've heard from Harley mechanics it's usually the first thing to go. I would also look at the Yamaha Stryker, if your checking out that style of bike.

  • @screamingr1366

I love my NRS! For being a HD it’s quick and handles great once you get used to the forward controls. A few changes and it looks long, low, mean, and fast! Top end is a quickly reached 138mph that surprises a lot of people on different vehicle platforms. I have almost deleted all that nasty chrome crap making it look even better. I have the PV4 coming for it with high expectations as well. You will not regret the NRS.
The only drawback, for ant V-Rod really, is parts availability and a sensitive electrical system. You get what you pay for and believe me the problems cheap parts, especially from crappy china, will cause are a huge headache. Lights and signal stabilizers are best from Eagle Lights and Custom Dynamics. Parts from J&P Cycles, JC Bros and over seas in Europe (Germany) will be best.

I’ve thought about trading in on a Ducati... but it’s SO reliable... I’ll go two years between services, other than what I do myself ...& that lash service is $250-$300 max, not $1500-$2000... so I’ll just keep her...! Hey man I’m sure you got your bike by now, and I’d like to know what you decided on/how you like it. But I’ve been on a 2012 night rod for over a year now (no car, just bikes) and I love it! The biggest difference is the seat. The muscle just feels like normal, but gunning it in the night rod is like being in a racing bucket seat. And trust me, when you blast the throttle in 4th or 5th against the power band, you’ll be glad of that deep seat!

I bought a new Nightrod Special in '08 and it now has 43,000 hard miles on it. It uses zero oil, engine/tranny make no noise that I can hear. She's still tight as a drum and stiff as a rod! I don't think you can go wrong with the Nightrod. I know I will never give mine up. You will want an aftermarket exhaust. Stock system weighs close to 40 pounds and makes the bike turn quick to the right and sluggish to the left. Remove passenger pegs and other useless junk and get it down to 620 pounds or so. All that said, I will likely add an FZ 10 to the stable next year since I want something quicker and more "flickable"... but the Nightrod stays with me!

You don't want a Cruiser, plus they are heavy. Nothing wrong with wanting a Harley but I thought you liked performance and reliability. If so you should look further than Harley Davidson. Although the 2018 , Softails perform and handle quite well. (First year model though )
