I've gamed my Cobra F7 for the last two seasons. Bought the head gently used, had a shaft fitted. Your closing point is exactly why i'm just not in the market for a fairway wood. I've hit most of the new offerings, and there's so little to be gained. I'm an Assistant Pro, I get the opportunity to hit a lot of clubs at fitting events each year and my F7 is still relevant and paid for! Much love, Peter! ⛳️ 🏌️‍♂️ 👊

I bought the Ping g425 sft late last year for £230. Tried it down American golf but bought from a local golf club who had it on offer. It goes about 230 yards and relatively straight. With the size of it it gives me the confidence behind the ball also when my driver is having a bit of an off day I use it then. Absolutely love it 👍🏻⛳️

Son just purchased the G430 Mac driver last week. He needs a 3 wood. Looking for one like the driver that’s going to be like the 430 driver and is extremely forgiving and easy to hit. Figured the 430 3 wood would be the clear option with how well he likes the 430 driver. Sounds like yours gives you confidence and others I’ve seen comment on it. Since there’s not much different between the 425 to the 430 it’s worth checking out.

For example lately I've been crushing an Orlimar strong 3 wood from many years ago. It's straight and long and has a boring trajectory. Another incredible one is my old origonal Great Big Bertha. What a feel and sound that has off the tee! I won't buy anything new.

If I’ve hit more than 150 balls with it I’d be amazed. I was LOVING it, until yesterday… 230 yards into wind, 1st cut of rough, smacked the ball (admittedly a bit off the toe) and the crown and toe of the club has cracked!!! It’s gone off to Ping today… I’m really hoping they are able to do something otherwise it’s the best part of £320 up the Swanny! 🤞🏻

No joke I have a job daily forged over sized 5 wood in my bag I bought from wal mart 20 years ago. I can’t get rid of it. 😂 I have the same shaft , grip and everything. It just feels …. Right , in my hands. & will get a tour grip mid size I love those grips. I hit things bad 250-265 off the tee box and solidly hit 225-230 with it . I got a sim2 max 3 wood I just can’t seem to get right yet . I either Nuke it 25-280 or I shank it like a first timer . No middle ground

Did you test any Cobra fairway woods, Pete? In my opinion, Cobra make some of the best woods out there and they get overlooked far too often. Maybe it's the names or colorways, but I think people would love them if they just tested them!

Love the LST but I’m with you on price being a big barrier. I’m still playing (and loving) my Callaway Mavrik Sub Zero at 16.5*. High launching off the ground and very controlled off the tee. I’ve tested side by side with similar 15* 3w and the 16.5 is just as long off the tee and 5-10y longer off the deck. Can’t see it getting kicked out of the bag anytime soon.

As well as Peter was driving with the Stealth 2 3 wood during the Rick Shiels video, I can say stick with the Stealth2. I got fit for and bought the Stealth 2 HD 3 wood earlier this year. Had to replace my 11 year old Titleist and shaved 2 strokes off scores just by having a good second option off the tee. It's a rocket for sure and so easy to launch.

I have an Adams Tight Lie Ti 3 wood that I have had in the bag about 5+ years now, and I really like it. It's about the only club I would hesitate to take out of my bag for something else. Compact head, sets up just right at address, feels great, and when I am swinging well, it just pops. Penetrating flight. No real bells and whistles, just a good, solid 3 wood. I've not even tried another 3-wood since I got this. Now, I would try something else at the range, and maybe I'd like a different model/brand even more, especially something newer with more tech. But $650(US) for a 3 wood? Let's just say I'm not paying 1/4 of that, even if it washed my clothes for me after a round.

I paid £140, £97 and £135 for PXG gen 5 driver, 3 and 5 woods respectively on ebay and also picked up 2022 0211's 6-PW also from PXG, used just once on the range and once on the course for just £150. Almost a full bag of current almost new PXG clubs for just £522, or the price of the Ping G430. Granted not custom fit but as a mid to high handicapper depending on the day I don't think custom fit although nice is currently necessary.
I also picked up Callaway big bertha cf19's for £185 and B21 4 and 5 hybrids for £145 the pair.
If you have the budget or simply must have the latest clubs then go for it, but my advice is consider second hand. With a little patience there are some epic bargains out there.

I still have my old Titleist 915fd 13.5* three wood in the bag. I’ve always been a high launch/high spin guy. The sweet spot is tiny on the Titleist. But if you find it, it goes a mile. But if you miss it that’s where it really shines. It’s far enough. I keep trying everything that comes out with a 13.5 option and it has stayed in the bag. A cosmetic thing about it is the stock Mitsubishi blue board shaft it has looks like a 5 wood shaft to my eye. I’ve measured it, it’s normal length. But, it gives me the confidence that I can hit a repeatable draw with it. So if I need to hit a fade I just hit driver now. Btw my Taylormade SLDR 430 is still in the bag too

I don't carry a 3 wood as I pretty much just used it off the tee and couldn't hit it off the ground all that well, my 5 wood is my best friend though. I had the m6 which I loved but replaced it with the paradym. Callaway did good this year. I didn't even hit the stealth2 as the fitters who we're at my clubs demo day had no idea what they were doing so it didn't instill much confidence but if it's anything like the hybrid then the wood must go a mile. Ping makes good stuff so I think you made the right decision.

I don't actually have a 3 wood in the bag! I've taken my driver and 3 wood out and have replaced them both with an 11.5 Deg BRNR mini. The BRNR has been long and consistent off the tee for me, longer and straighter than my driver has ever been! The 3 wood was my safety club off the tee and my second club on long par 5's. I now go mini driver, mini driver or 5w and a short wedge into par 5's. Looking at upgrading my 5w though ans the stealth 2 or a Ping g425 or g430 were going to be what I was going to look at!

Just picked up a Stealth 2 Plus to replace my OG Sim 3 wood. Sliding weight in the sole has been a great addition to alter spin. The Sim had a bad tendency to spin too low at times and I am very happy with what Taylormade had done with the new Stealth 2 Plus

I have and still use my Ping Rapture 3 and 5 woods that I got over fifteen years ago. They are very forgiving and the distance I get are good enough for me. Hi Peter, I am completely with you...£500 ???? yeah, no way, no how is that going in my bag. It does look and sound like a great fairway wood but I'm happy with my taylormade stealth 3 wood HL 16.5 degree loft stiff ventus 6.0 shaft and midsize grip. It goes like a bullet and when required I can loft it over the tree's, distance wise, I get an average 240 - 245 yards with it. I have to admit though, it took a few rounds and about 100 balls to properly get used to it. Now though, I hit it off the tee's just as often as my driver ( ping g425 max ). Keep these vid's coming matey. definitely the most entertaining, informative and just damned good fun on youtube so far 🙂

I have the Ping G425 Max driver, and the G425 5 wood. The driver is the best I've ever had. I'm not in the market for a 3 wood, but if I were, I'd look very hard at a G425 - much lower price than the G430, and I expect it performs almost as well.

I just switched from my original Taylormade Rocketballz 3w which was long off tee but essentially unhitable from any other lie than fairway, to the new stealth 2+ 3w I tried it at my local golf galaxy here in US, and got it fitted and that massive movebale weight was magic. I get such a nice hug ball flight even as a higher handicapper that it’s makes long par threes and par five much less scary and I can even slight work the ball off the tee with it
