    I love putting saffron in my rice, chicken and soups. It's got a unique flavor that's actually great in many things, just hard to part with a few strands considering its cost and how hard it is to find at most grocery stores. I hope to keep seeing it.

      As far as I know, it was first studied as a dye. This is not unusual - many flower cores can stain you with pollen - it's just that crocuses have the most well-transmitted color. And then someone just decided to touch up the food and as a result noticed that the taste improved.

    I have a tiny box with real saffron that my friend brought me back from Asia, where he worked for 5 years. It was very inexpensive there compared to that bought in China Town in Toronto. Such a tiny amount of saffron for so many dollars! I treasure my tiny box of the best ingredient to my oriental cooking. My friend benefits from his kindness regularly. This year I lost my brother, I inherited his cookbooks, call mom, kitchen, utensils, and pots and pans, and his spices. His refrigerator he had a Messenger with containers of saffron. Some of them he purchased on his international trips. Now my concern is that they will lose their bouquet if I do not use them. It grows well and I have it in the Arctic Circle, the point here is how well it stretches, how much it blooms, the intensity of taste and color depends on the climate and of course the
      established processing process itself. It grows in my garden, but in my country there is absolutely no chance to start its production - it's just not profitable where not in initially ideal conditions.

    • @angelad.8944
      @angelad.8944 Год назад +3

      Real saffron will have an amazing floral scent and flavor along with an earthy undertone. Fake is bland and can be chemically tasting from the dyes etc. The color of fake tends to be um less rich or less natural. That one is hard to explain. Once you see and smell and taste real, you will know from then on which is which.

    • @ZOCCOK
      @ZOCCOK Год назад +5

      Usually 'Fake' Saffron is just normal Low Quality Saffron mixed in with other stuff (Adulteraterants, can be anything).
      Had the opportunity to taste the difference between high quality saffron (Only made of red strands) and Medium/Low Quality Saffron (Red and Yellow Strands) side by side in a spice market.
      The difference is pretty big especially when tasting it pure with just warm milk and some sugar.
      High quality saffron has a very intense smell, Whereas the medium/low quality saffron has the same smell just at a lower intensity.

    • @user-qn1ht8vl5x
      @user-qn1ht8vl5x 10 месяцев назад

      You can easily buy them! They are popular flowers for gardens - a bunch of colors and drawings, but growing them at home for the sake of spice or dye is basically useless. For even the simplest recipes, it should be divided into several flowers + it does not bloom for a long time and you will get one flower from one bulb, but they multiply slowly and the bulbs themselves are not cheap and may not even bloom if they do not like the soil or climate. It is also grown there because the climate significantly affects the intensity of the spice/dye and it is there that the ideal conditions for growing products are initially created. But you may well try! It will definitely be beautiful. :)
