Hey..pretty fast response. Thank you. I am a 54 yr old mom of a 16 year old daughter who sings in a 14 voice a cappella ensemble. They are doing Country Dances so when I was searghing youtube I found you that way. I am so glad that I did! I will keep searching. Thanks for sharing your wonderful gift with the planet!
COOOOOOOOOLLL!!! I'm Clare from The Swingles, Peter Hollens told me about this video but I've only just seen it this morning because someone tweeted me about it. Great job! :-)
I just want to say that you are an amazing and talented singer for being able to do a piece like this all parts by yourself. Also, if I had your range, my life would be so much easier! Don't stop singing and waste a wonderful talent!
Seriously I think you're amazing man. I synced my ipod the other day and you've officially taken over my top 25, I think you have 8 songs in their. You're videos are nothing short of perfection.
That is a great song, we sang that in High school. I am ubber impressed you learned all those parts and were able to sing it at such a fast pace. Well done!!!
this is one of my favorite pieces of your work! It's been a long time since i first heard it, its just gotten better as i've aged and realized just how much work went into it. Thank you for sharing it with us!
Hi Danny, I've been following your videos for some time now, and I've often been impressed by your intrinsic intonation skills, and I've thought it's a pity that only occasionally your incredible technical chops come out to play. I really enjoyed listening to this, and I'm incredibly impressed by the fluency of your arpeggios and scales in all registers, it's astounding! Cheers mate, keep doing what you do!
This arrangement is an incredible piece of writing and VERY challenging to sing cleanly. You did it justice...and more! Thank you for 3 min. 44 sec. of nonstop grinning. Hmm...Dan IS cool indeed. :-)
This is awesome man! I have an appreciation for vocals and the complexity of covering of all those harmonies.. and i must say this is impressive! pure music! love it :)
Great job Danny! Watched this many many years ago and now I get to sing it! I'm using your multitrack as a learning track for myself and it's just a wild party the entire way through! Just a quick note, at mm. 159: "Turkey in the straw, haw haw haw haw", the first "haw" actually arrives on an upbeat so the "haw haw haw haw" is syncopated, but you sing it on the beat. I was so used to hearing your version that at a read through, I ended up singing it on the beat until I heard our sopranos sing it correctly syncopated :)
+Tarudox Yeah, I've noticed a few things in many of my recordings that I've done incorrectly over the years. You go a little bit crazy when you try to sing all these parts in succession! Hours and hours spent, you get into a state of mine where some things are misinterpreted :)
Great job, thanks for posting. Have you heard the Hi-Lo's doing Turkey in the Straw? If not, you're in for a verrrrry pleasant surprise. The incomparable Hi-Lo's. Keep up the great work.
@08firthf Plenty. Although, when I first picked up the music that day I had only heard a recording of it twice, and certainly didn't know any specific notes. I had to practice a lot of lines to make it work.
All RESPECT to you, man! Wow! I love the Swingle Singers and I feel they will also be ecstatic if they get to see this! BRAVO!!! More Swingle pieces in the future perhaps? Hehehe! ;-)
Brilliant! I used to play the piano accordion in a folk dance band and most of those tunes were pretty tricky to play let alone sing to like you do. Well produced as well :-)
so you're saying this is all sightreading...? i'm speechlessly impressed, you might just be the most talented singer i know on youtube... SO TALENTED!!!!!!! please keep up the good work... oh and btw thanks for posting that song when i was just about to search for the swingle's version (which btw is SSAATTBB not SATB... but who cares)
@michaelcadilhac I think I started with Tenor, it's my "natural" vocal range or where I'm most comfortable, so tuning and intonation was a bit easier for me.
@JackBond1234 A couple perhaps.. I can't remember which off the top of my head, though, most of them I record the bass first right after a nap or a night of drinking. I can sing the higher parts after my voice warms up. Singing bass seems to warm it up slowly :)... but hitting the notes for me isn't a physical impossibility for me, just an inconvenience.
@daniscool99 yeah i totally forgot to mention that in my previous comment... really really impressed with your range, especially the soprano parts from 1:37 are even difficult for natural sopronos, you did an amazing job sightreading them as a male voice... my previous comment seemed long enough though.
Swingle Singers, yes? I love this tune! I have the sheet music for this, and I understand your pain on this chart, it's HARD AS HELL. I'm ridiculously impressed by your effort, ESPECIALLY as a sightread. That's just insane. Keep up the great work, this was really good! Have you heard Crossroads's version of this song?
@jbcraipeau I'm very surprised I did too. I thought about it a few times and said this would be so cool to do.. but would take so long. And then I decided that I needed a challenge so I just spent basically all afternoon Saturday and Sunday making it work.
I'm tongue-tied just by listening. Awesome vid, needed several times before I understood what you just were singing there (okay, I'm from germany...) Well done. ^^
I sang this with Swingle themself...hardest stuff ever to memorise (beeing french...) haha you must be sick for recording all the parts man !! I heard some differents chords than the original and I'd prefer a little slower, but...Thumb up for sure !!
that's great. Ain't that sumpin' Haha. :) yes, the Hi-Lo's Happen to Folk Songs. there are a bunch of great and fun ones on there. Black is the Color, and um, Molly Malone, too, I think. Great arrrangements. Very touching.
@Dinkyswingle Ah cool! I was going to audition for the tenor spot but money and one last year of my music degree won the argument. Next time that spot opens up.. it's mine! :) All the Best, D.
@daniscool99 I was wondering, because it was darned good and I didn't think you did... but some of those notes you hit - golly! You are absolutely bloody fantastic, and me and my fiancee are delighted by your work. ^_^ We just spent a few minutes googling your name with autotune, saw the quote on your page re atheletes & steroids etc, and the one piece where you pointed out having autotuned a C - so glad you don't use it! Bravo, and bravo again!!!
@DjSalty91 Thanks. I'm aware the tuning isn't perfect. Some of the Soprano stuff was way too fast to sing in my falsetto and have it come out enunciated AND in tune. I could've used pitch correction but I absolutely detest the sound of "perfect" singing when it makes my voice sound unnatural. I'd much rather have issues with tuning here and there than succumb to auto tune or melodyne. I'd love to sing live with a group, and if I use autotune.. it just means it won't happen :)
@TheVerandure If you look closely, there's actually something wrong with a few of them. I originally edited the video to an mp3 track and then later replaced it with an aiff and when I did a few things went out of sync.. so I tried fixing a few, and a few others went out. So I just settled with what was left. There's a lot going on in 8 videos.. so it doesn't bother most people too much :P

Saw this when it dropped 9 years and still this astounds me.
haha thanks! :)
I am just in love with this sped up version of Country Dances. Wow. Very impressive.
Sang this in college 30 years ago. Tenor 1 part was hard enough by itself, let along singing all 8 parts. Well done!!!
I grew up to all these songs! I love this!
I think you are my favorite subscription to watch. Harmony is a beautiful thing.
Seriously I think you're amazing man. I synced my ipod the other day and you've officially taken over my top 25, I think you have 8 songs in their. You're videos are nothing short of perfection.
I'm glad you put together all these old tunes; old ones normally kick new ones' asses, and this has been no exception, great job :-)
This is brilliant! I know how hard it is to sight-read, especially at this speed. I love it!
That is a great song, we sang that in High school. I am ubber impressed you learned all those parts and were able to sing it at such a fast pace. Well done!!!

I can't even begin to imagine how much work that was..
Love it. Enunciation was spot on. Timing, perfect.
Awesome work.
@GracieChristine1 It's my pleasure, thanks for taking the time to check it out.
Yessss!!!! This was a staple of our repertoire for a couple years in the acaplla group I'm in at college. :) Awesome!
I like it when you do fast paced things like this. Very awesome!
Hi Danny,

Just posted this clip on my Facebook wall. I'm really enjoying it and so are my (enlightened) friends. :-)
This is absolutely amazing.

Oh my gosh! I am so obsessed with this video, I have the 'whole' thing MEMORIZED! Lol amazing job!! :)
@08firthf Plenty. Although, when I first picked up the music that day I had only heard a recording of it twice, and certainly didn't know any specific notes. I had to practice a lot of lines to make it work.
WOW! THAT'S AMAZING!! Obviously the harmonies are brilliant always, but the speed of this on is excellent! This video is thoroughly entertaining!
dan... just wow... you seriously kick ass... I salute you!!
holy crap. not only is this crazy fast its also difficult. you continue to top yourself with each video
All RESPECT to you, man! Wow! I love the Swingle Singers and I feel they will also be ecstatic if they get to see this! BRAVO!!!

really sensational :) loved that you let us know all the modulations that were happening in the piece :)
Oh and I'll post it on my Facebook wall. It's pretty awesome!!
Another amazing production! I'm going to post on my FB page.
Gosh why don't you have more subscribers?
You never fail to impress me. :)
@michaelcadilhac I think I started with Tenor, it's my "natural" vocal range or where I'm most comfortable, so tuning and intonation was a bit easier for me.
Loved it. I preferred the bits in unison to other parts but still amazing.
I love your country accent at 2:20. Plus, this was just really cool.
@JackBond1234 A couple perhaps.. I can't remember which off the top of my head, though, most of them I record the bass first right after a nap or a night of drinking. Wow, that's one of the weirdest yet most difficult pieces of music I've ever heard. Nicely done!
Swingle Singers, yes? I love this tune! I have the sheet music for this, and I understand your pain on this chart, it's HARD AS HELL. I'm ridiculously impressed by your effort, ESPECIALLY as a sightread. That's just insane. Keep up the great work, this was really good!

you are amazing these videos have to take forever for you to make

have you ever auditioned for American Idol? you wouldn't really have any competition, you have the looks and the voice
@shadowbaghdig I didn't know ANY of the parts when I picked up the music the other day so I sang it plenty more than 8 times learning it.
and again an amazing performance! Thumbs up :-)
This is amazing
I'm tongue-tied just by listening. Awesome vid, needed several times before I understood what you just were singing there (okay, I'm from germany...)

HELP! I can't stop listening!

@DazzleZazzle Hm, very interesting! Thanks for the input :)

@TheVerandure If you look closely, there's actually something wrong with a few of them.
