I have done DIY for over 20 years and caulking is my nightmare. You make it look easy!! My wife knows when I attempt to caulk I need four tubes more than I should need, a bucket of water and three rolls of paper towels!

Ge makes a paintable silicone. Great for trim that tends to move.

Thanks for this but I am addicted to Ryobi 18 Volt tools and yes they have an 18 volt caulk gun and it is awesome with a constant pressure and no squeezing which means I get a great line of caulk every time.

Thanks for the video. Working more outside than inside now but will have to get the bathroom done soon- new caulk and stuff. That's very helpful.

Wow, thank you for explaining the differences in caulk. This is so helpful. I will remove the caulking on my backslash and us the 100% silicone. My builders used a caulk the has cracked in multiple areas. You would think the builder would know better.

As always, your explanations are exceptionally well done. The hardware stores have soooo many types that it is daunting. The trick , it seems, is to know exactly where you will use it. That narrows it down about 50%. After that, preference for desired results cuts choices down even more. I will keep your suggestions handy next time I need to caulk (likely my shower surround if I can get the old stuff off!)

Melissa, My favorite caulk is Tube and Tile caulk because it is water base for easy clean up and use, plus it is an adhesive caulk for bonding, plus it is paintable and doesn't draw dirt to it over time. Give it a try sometime I think you will like it. Keep up the good work you help people with your videos.

I am glad to see training like that. Getting 6 tubes of the same caulk and getting used to one's preferred is necessary as the crap is frustrating! 😅 Just gluing old boards together to see how well different ones stick. I use 3 foot 2x4s on 3 foot 2x8s. Test them for grip after 48 hours in dark dry climate. Good practice and gives appreciation for adhesive properties.
Everytime I can caulk at home it's midnight. I always have fun even though I can't see as well as I'd like!
So far I like Lexel clear or white. It's a polymer rubber. I tried 5 to 7 other brands beforehand. This stuff stretches, goes on cold and damp. What's your favorite clear amd white brand?
If the crack is big because of various reasons, I like to shove plummers puddy into the crack as a type of backer. Or the thick quality white electrical tape. Or even scrap foam. Depends on crack size.

Absolutely LOVE your videos and always look forward to them every sunday afternoon. If I may give one suggestion. You should look into something like the rode wireless go, or even a cheap lapel mic. It would make your audio when you're talking straight to the camera sound as good as your voiceovers do. Otherwise, you're crushing it with amazing easy to follow content.

I'm removing the caulk in my bathroom as we speak. I'm assuming it's silicone since it's adhered so well, hard to get off. Though many years old, not the slightest sign of any mold, mildew or any discolouration (true white). In fact it looks brand new. I'm removing it because it's high gloss, and a sloppy extremely wide bead with ridges and channels. And so with the high gloss the imperfections stand out so much. It matches the glossy bathtub for colour, but is much glossier than the tub. So I'm going to replace with a matte or satin finish if I can find it. It's clearly a very high quality product that's in place, but quite ugly. I'd suggest that if you can't match your paint or flooring or counter for colour, match it more closely for sheen. Not the tub or surround.

OSI Quad max is an oil based sealant that is designed for exterior applications with all the benefits of silicon but the paint ability of an acrylic caulking. You can use a rag with paint thinner on it for tooling/fingering it smooth. Also never use any type of caulking as a nail hole filler, it makes the paint flash horribly.

Rustoleum universal "bond to anything" primer spray paint works 100% on silicone caulk. Spray couple layers on your silicone joints and it will paint beautifully EZ fix. I've made this mistake before too lol

Something you need to know about consumer sealants and lifetime warranties is they are ALL just marketing tools and are NOT really “ lifetime warranties”
Siliconized latex is also a marketing tool and is useless
You totally ignored possibly the best exterior option for home owners.. polyurethane
I have been a professional caulker for over 40 years. I think basically thud us a decent video but there us a lot of very important information missing👍
