  • In 2014, Brock and Erica experienced two major life events: they welcomed their first child into this world, and not two weeks later, they lost their home to the Carlton Complex wildfires.
Experiences such as these cause great reflection and a renewed focus on what is most important in life.
For Brock and Erica, family needed to come first.
➡️ As they prepared to welcome their second daughter, the love for their growing family, a desire to live a more balanced life, and a passion for great wine led them back to North Central Washington and Succession Wines was established.
Taking a look back at their history, find out how they started building a life after losing everything when you listen to the story of succession winery in their own words.

    ➡️ Why “Succession”?
In simplest terms, succession is the order of things. Ecological succession is the term used to describe the process of change in an ecological community over time, often a response to a natural disturbance such as a fire. Before Brock was studying the traditional art of wine making, he built bridges. The order of things was critical to his former profession. Same is true of the wine making process.
Together with their daughters, they are building a new life, a new legacy, a new succession. They are creating their own history and invite you to join them on their journey. As you sip, smile, and share your story, we hope you’ll think about the progression of your life and all of the adventures to come. Cheers to living the life you love!
    Warmly,
    Brock and Erica Lindsay

Thanks so much, really glad you enjoyed it. I learned so much during the trip and spent over a week working with Succession winery. I’m from California and even though I love my bold Cabs and Chardonnay from there, I absolutely love a great Washington State Syrah. Cheers and thanks for taking time to comment. -Jeff

I’m from Wenatchee which is about 30 minutes from Chelan but now reside in Kansas. I was introduced to wine by my girlfriend’s family. 5 years later, I love wine; primarily Cab Sauv/Franc. Last year, my girlfriend and I took a trip to WA and tried 10+ wineries. Succession was our absolute favorite by far! We took two bottle to go and quite frankly we f**ked up and should have bought more. We’re getting ready to visit again this summer and definitely will be tasting at Succession. Great video and choice of wine!

Thanks for the comment and man what a jump from Washington to Kansas. Chelan is so beautiful and I think everyone should visit. Succession is absolutely amazing. When you go in the summer tell Brock(owner/winemaker) I said hello. Cheers and thanks for sharing your story. -Jeff

Yet an other awesome episode 🤙
I just spend a month in france, 10 days in the cognac region of which 7 days on a camping at a small producer of pineau and cognac. Learned a bit more about the whole procces, very interesting. Too bad many small producers have no one to take the busines over and have to sell to the big names who just absorb them into their own houses in stead of keeping the autenticity and diversity alive.. That way there will be less and less cognacs to choose from..

    Great video as usual Jeff.
A note for you would be to allow the explanations to stay longer on the screen, so people who are not familiar with some terms can read it a bit slower and allow that to sink in.
Looking forward to the next one! Have fun making it 👍

8:04 what he says there is wrong or at least misleading and I do not know where he got this idea from. I am from a German wine region (Rheinhessen) and here we grow many different grapes right next to each other. For historic reasons, most wine makers just have a small stretches of land here and there. Some even do not make wine for a living and just do it on the side and usually have less land. So sometimes just a few meters to each side, you already have your neighbours' vineyards who more often than not grow different grapes than you. It is not uncommon that one winery alone grows many different sorts, my uncle and cousin's winery being one of them and they already have some more than a dozen varieties on just around 11ha (about 27 acres) of land. Granted, he has a large number even compared to others here but I just checked the first six wineries that came to mind in my village and found 23 different varieties already. Bare in mind, those are really just the varieties in grapes, not different wines, those numbers are of course even higher. Red and white both of course so I am really surprised how he thinks that in Europe we only grow one variety in a whole region when my small village already is that diverse.
Yes, not all regions in Europe are as diverse but there is still diversity in other regions as well.

Great information and point of view. It may of been a generalisation of his experience and what he has seen. I know some regions can only grow certain varietals, but in Washington they have unique and great climate and adequate amount of water that can accommodate a lot of different varieties. Thanks for sharing and I 💯 respect your insights on all this. The great thing is I will pay attention to stuff like this during my travels. 🙏🙏🙏-Jeff
