These phones were amazing, the weather widgets, the colors the track ball was awesome. I loved mine, I also had the nexus one. Great phones
My first Android smartphone! Watching this ad, made me fall in love with the HTC Hero. Before that I had a NOKIA N 80.
Aw, this commercial brings back memories of my first smart phone. One of the things I really loved about this device is what the manufacturer calls HTC Sense! by far even to this day, is one of the best mobile software enhancers out there. If it was that good in 2009 when I had mine, I'd imagine that it's much better now. Quietly brilliant!

really great UI on this...am amazed at what HTC was able to do to make the default Android UI look so much better...
I wish there was a rebuild with the exact same Design (including the Buttons!!!) but todays hardware.

The hero started it all. Probably one of the most revolutionary devices of all time, love it. Still cant believe that they don't dominate the market. HTC - Quietly Brilliant.

I wish it was really that fast. I do miss the clock changing when they released the ROM update. Hopefully the new OS update will sort it out!

I am running this ROM on my G1 now, and this is the best user experience I have ever had. Not to say that the iPhone isn't good, but this is just better.
I really love HTC Sense, best Interface ever! (Especially on the Hero/Legend/Desire/Incredible/EVO 4G)

HTC finally cracked open a can of whoop ass on all the other phones. Its about time. T-mobile is selling it as G2 and Im getting one after they upgrade the software to get rid of the sluggishness. LOVING the background music.

This will be my next phone. For music I have my ipod touch because I don't think that anybody out there will be able to get rid of Itunes music industry dominations so we cannot compare.
are you happy with the G1? would you have bought it again after using it? when some stuff were not as good,,, did they fix that now with the hero?? I want the hero but am not shure if it will be good
is it good with out a sim to be used as if it was an ipod touch?
I'm watching this in 2024 and apple now allow you to move apps around your screen .. insane.. this HTC sense is the reason i love Android.
@ Johnny The iPhone still surpasses the amount of G1s sold by millions. The G1 has sold to about 1 million and more since its launch.
do we have to subscribe personally which means additional payment to some services like stock (bloomberg)? is the services free?

the "chin" helps to know where the top/bottom of the phone is. it looks fine to me.
i have an iphone, many times its in my pocket or its dark, and i want to turn down the volume, i dont know where to press, because i dont know the orientation of the phone.
the chin is minor, and it will help with that. beside, i think it looks fine.
I'm running the beta right now and every screen looks exactly as it does in the video. Hard to tell if it is bugs or older hardware but it stutters at times. I'm sure the new hero hardware will work smoothly.
the HTC Hero starts off at $179.99 with mail-in rebate and works with any plan
so its not a douche move by sprint to get us on the data plan or simply everything plan. it uses any plan, even if the one ur using is an old plan
It's super modern and shows why android is one of the best things happend to mobile phones.
I agree, It looks so new and complex but simple. Much more flattering than the iphone in my thoughts.

Just watching the demo video in a horizontal format proves the need for landscape interaction. Can apps rotate? Like a horizontal ketboard. Or did I miss that part of the demo?

Wow, HTC did a nice job of re-skinning Android. The only problem is regular Android Apps won't have this neat look since the regular Android GUI as provided by the API is kind of plain looking.

I love my 3GS, and that being said, this phone looks great. I'm happy to say that Android can finally explode now with this device. They just needed the right hardware, i think this is the start!
this phone is kick ass! i love it more than my iphone 3g mainly cuz of the sense UI. mine is unlocked w/ at&t (no 3g)
Does this phone multitask like the Palm Pre? I would imagine so, given the number of "home pages" that a user can customize. Further, I would imagine that some sort of multitasking can be performed given the sub-categories in the Contacts widget--text messages, e-mails, facebook updates, etc..
If the Hero can truly multitask, then I will definately wait until this phone is available for the states, as I am waiting to hear more on the Pre.
Yup, I hope to see this in Canada soon. But I doubt it since Rogers just recently announced HTC Dream/Magic.

Back in 2009/10 this was amongst my HTC collection. Really enjoyed the Hero but the trackball was never the best and it stopped working one day and rendered navigation of the phone almost useless.
Phone insurance isn't a gimmick.
If this comes to Att, this may very well be my first Android phone. I was holding out for the TP2 but after watching a couple vids, reading up and realizing I really don't need a 4" screen, I'm a Hero fan

The design is just very xperia look alike.
There's a bunch of apps for Android already--but most of them leave a lot to be desired. The google star map thing is pretty slick though.
i have an iphone and usually i would say no phone comes close but this phone looks freakin sweet, if its that sleek and user friendly then it would be better than the iphone
looks absolutely amazing (software wise) but the buttons on the device itself are not organized properly to me and i think that the screen is still the same size as g1 and magic.
I own a g1 and using a keyboard on such screen is a bit harder that on the iphone.
but what the hell, its freaking android, wish all success for this great device
I had an HTC Eris (US version of Hero) and I loved it. Was sad to see it go. HTC will always make a better phone than samsung!
This is the HTC Hero the first Android phone to run HTC's since UI. But it is not the first Android phone, the first Android phone is The HTC G1, aka HTC Dream. This phone came out in 2008.
i think it might be ulrich schnauss, maybe one of his newer albums, not certain - but it sounds like the type of keyboard/synth sounds he uses that i'm familiar with - even if it's not him i bet you'd like his stuff if you like this
is this the best phone for sprint?
I just sold my G1 for an iPhone. Both have its strong and weak points. From my experience, the Android interface is incredible. Open source, You can make it your own. But the G1 hardware really limited it as its CPU speed was very slow and it's battery life was incredibly short. Now for the iPhone. Smooth and fast. Web browsing is awesome and I really do appreciate NO background apps. Battery life is incredible compared to the G1. But I do miss Androids customization. The Hero should be amazing

how did u make it so smooth plus when ur in an app and press home does it have to load the homescreen???
Anyway, they have screens "pushed into the device" a bit so that the screen doesn't get scratched when faced down.
What service is this on? And how much is it?
IT does lag a bit its nothing major just when you flicking through the home screens it can lag from times, its more of a annoyance more than anything.

Fantastic Phone!! with Android OS!! Much better that the Iphone, all of them....
At least with android you can run more that one app each time.....
even make the search on mail account, without mentioning other negative aspects about iphone!! No dought iphone it's the prettiest mobile phone in the market, but that's just what it is!!

Actually, most smart phones don't have flash. All but Apple and Blackberry are rumored to have flash by early next year. This having %80 flash support is definitely great. It clearly bests the iPhone in this area. As for it being an MP4 player... so is the iPhone. What's your point? Divx Playback would be something truly special IMHO.
I just wish we in the US got it sooner. I'll probably import it in from the UK, since its compatible with the T-Mobile US network anyway

Me and my friend both have iPhones and I think now he is actually considering getting one of these. I think the layout of everything is great and the customization is what really sells it. I think Apple having the app store is what keeps the iphone fresh, but at&t being the sole provider in the states, is really starting to hurt apple. AT&T knows that they are the only one to have it and so they are jacking prices up and really sucking money out of people over this phone.
@Usuallyboredalot Yep. It ran stock Android, straight from Google, it was a "Google Experience" phone. Android needed HTC sense, back then.
