This is what HTC should look at to revamp their marketing. Beautiful music, innovation, not afraid to break away from the norm. My first Android smartphone. The nostalgia is real.
Aw, this commercial brings back memories of my first smart phone. One of the things I really loved about this device is what the manufacturer calls HTC Sense! by far even to this day, is one of the best mobile software enhancers out there. If it was that good in 2009 when I had mine, I'd imagine that it's much better now. Quietly brilliant!
The hero started it all. Probably one of the most revolutionary devices of all time, love it. Still cant believe that they don't dominate the market. HTC - Quietly Brilliant.
I loved this phone. First smart phone I ever owned after Blackberry. Who else still remembers “Rise” by Samantha James and “Warrior” by Andy Caldwell!?
wow incredible phone great job to the guy from htc i might be buying this as soon as it comes out hope u keep it and come up with even greater stuff. best of luck and again really great job!
I am running this ROM on my G1 now, and this is the best user experience I have ever had. Not to say that the iPhone isn't good, but this is just better.
are you happy with the G1? would you have bought it again after using it? when some stuff were not as good,,, did they fix that now with the hero?? I want the hero but am not shure if it will be good
This will be my next phone. For music I have my ipod touch because I don't think that anybody out there will be able to get rid of Itunes music industry dominations so we cannot compare.
Just watching the demo video in a horizontal format proves the need for landscape interaction. Can apps rotate? Like a horizontal ketboard. Or did I miss that part of the demo?
It`s AWESOME ...I'm waiting for it to be in the market .I'm dieing 2 get it. I've seen the G2 ,which rocks by the way, then I saw this & it blew my mind :)
HTC finally cracked open a can of whoop ass on all the other phones. Its about time. T-mobile is selling it as G2 and Im getting one after they upgrade the software to get rid of the sluggishness. LOVING the background music.
Does yours lag? I'm thinking of getting this one, but lag does put me off. But then again, won't all smart phones like this, the iPhone, Omnia HD (by Samsung?), and so on have a lag?
the HTC Hero starts off at $179.99 with mail-in rebate and works with any plan so its not a douche move by sprint to get us on the data plan or simply everything plan. it uses any plan, even if the one ur using is an old plan
Wow, HTC did a nice job of re-skinning Android. The only problem is regular Android Apps won't have this neat look since the regular Android GUI as provided by the API is kind of plain looking.
This is the HTC Hero the first Android phone to run HTC's since UI. But it is not the first Android phone, the first Android phone is The HTC G1, aka HTC Dream. This phone came out in 2008.
If this comes to Att, this may very well be my first Android phone. I was holding out for the TP2 but after watching a couple vids, reading up and realizing I really don't need a 4" screen, I'm a Hero fan
I was wondering if the ui and software seen in this video will be part in future android releases. Or is this Hero-exclusive? I'm Using htc dream an i get a little jealous :-/
Does this phone multitask like the Palm Pre? I would imagine so, given the number of "home pages" that a user can customize. Further, I would imagine that some sort of multitasking can be performed given the sub-categories in the Contacts widget--text messages, e-mails, facebook updates, etc.. If the Hero can truly multitask, then I will definately wait until this phone is available for the states, as I am waiting to hear more on the Pre.
Just looking at the widgets ... You changed the world HTC. I'm recharging my old Sprint Hero now ... as the T-Mobile merger & sprint fades! except... from my psychedelic dreams. My 10-year-old hero is still working. Wow 🤯 Should've kept @Sprint Bitches! Sounds way better 👍🏼🤜🏼🙏🏼☺️ Sprint Rocks & Sprint has meaning... What the hell does T-Mobile mean?!
I just sold my G1 for an iPhone. Both have its strong and weak points. From my experience, the Android interface is incredible. Open source, You can make it your own. But the G1 hardware really limited it as its CPU speed was very slow and it's battery life was incredibly short. Now for the iPhone. Smooth and fast. Web browsing is awesome and I really do appreciate NO background apps. Battery life is incredible compared to the G1. But I do miss Androids customization. The Hero should be amazing
I love my 3GS, and that being said, this phone looks great. I'm happy to say that Android can finally explode now with this device. They just needed the right hardware, i think this is the start!
i think it might be ulrich schnauss, maybe one of his newer albums, not certain - but it sounds like the type of keyboard/synth sounds he uses that i'm familiar with - even if it's not him i bet you'd like his stuff if you like this
Me and my friend both have iPhones and I think now he is actually considering getting one of these. I think the layout of everything is great and the customization is what really sells it. I think Apple having the app store is what keeps the iphone fresh, but at&t being the sole provider in the states, is really starting to hurt apple. AT&T knows that they are the only one to have it and so they are jacking prices up and really sucking money out of people over this phone.
i have an iphone and usually i would say no phone comes close but this phone looks freakin sweet, if its that sleek and user friendly then it would be better than the iphone
I think we should stop comparing every device with iphone. Android and HTC Sense are not targeted at iphone; iphone is a good ipod+internet device whereas Androis is an Operating System, this is huge difference. HTC created there own UI over android to target there market. If some company wants to exploit "IPOD" features of android, it can do that. The future of mobile devices will depend more on the software and we'll see tough competition in coming years :)
I'm running the beta right now and every screen looks exactly as it does in the video. Hard to tell if it is bugs or older hardware but it stutters at times. I'm sure the new hero hardware will work smoothly.
This is what HTC should look at to revamp their marketing.
Beautiful music, innovation, not afraid to break away from the norm.
My first Android smartphone. The nostalgia is real.
Same
My first smartphone! Already feeling nostalgia even it was only created in 2009!
Same 💓
I took out my Hero today and cannot believe how beautiful it was in 11 years ago!!
These phones were amazing, the weather widgets, the colors the track ball was awesome. I loved mine, I also had the nexus one. Great phones
My first Android smartphone! Watching this ad, made me fall in love with the HTC Hero. Before that I had a NOKIA N 80.
Crazy that we had such an awesome UX.......in 2009.
I still have this phone and works
I'm watching this in 2024 and apple now allow you to move apps around your screen .. insane.. this HTC sense is the reason i love Android.
really great UI on this...am amazed at what HTC was able to do to make the default Android UI look so much better...
I wish it was really that fast. I do miss the clock changing when they released the ROM update. Hopefully the new OS update will sort it out!
Am I the only one who downloaded it for the background song? haha!
Still may favorite ringtone after the iconic mono tones of Nokia, legendary Hero! :)
Better than the iPhone 7
not taking sides, but thats not true.

Getting the HTC Aria on my birthday, which has the awesome HTC Sense!
I wish there was a rebuild with the exact same Design (including the Buttons!!!) but todays hardware.
Instant buy! I fucking
Nostalgic
The design is new and pretty nice, in my opinion. Well Done, HTC! :)
is it good with out a sim to be used as if it was an ipod touch?
wow incredible phone great job to the guy from htc i might be buying this as soon as it comes out hope u keep it and come up with even greater stuff. best of luck and again really great job!
KasTKlips little did he know....
I am running this ROM on my G1 now, and this is the best user experience I have ever had. Not to say that the iPhone isn't good, but this is just better.
@ Johnny The iPhone still surpasses the amount of G1s sold by millions. The G1 has sold to about 1 million and more since its launch.
are you happy with the G1? would you have bought it again after using it? when some stuff were not as good,,, did they fix that now with the hero?? I want the hero but am not shure if it will be good
My very first smart phone! I had one in black.
Or did I miss that part of the demo?
do we have to subscribe personally which means additional payment to some services like stock (bloomberg)? is the services free?
how did u make it so smooth plus when ur in an app and press home does it have to load the homescreen???
It's super modern and shows why android is one of the best things happend to mobile phones.
the song is Chassis - Darling Doll (instrumental) but i've no idea where to get it...
It`s AWESOME ...I'm waiting for it to be in the market .I'm dieing 2 get it.
I've seen the G2 ,which rocks by the way, then I saw this & it blew my mind :)

Badass video. Man I want to know when it comes out.
Respect for HTC for promoting People Under the Stairs!!
I really love HTC Sense, best Interface ever! (Especially on the Hero/Legend/Desire/Incredible/EVO 4G)
Does the final product still say "Masssages" instead of messages?
Yeah, i am loving the clock, COOL! Hope this phone come out very soon.
the HTC Hero starts off at $179.99 with mail-in rebate and works with any plan
so its not a douche move by sprint to get us on the data plan or simply everything plan. it uses any plan, even if the one ur using is an old plan
How can it come to north america this year, when were are just getting the htc my touch (magic) in august?
The software has been updated, actually. HTC made the update before it even got released here in the UK :]
Wow, HTC did a nice job of re-skinning Android. The only problem is regular Android Apps won't have this neat look since the regular Android GUI as provided by the API is kind of plain looking.
When new and innovative UI was exciting ...
this phone looks like its going to be on my wish list
@snowsfater I've noticed that the clock never changed from that time.
Wow! I really hope it will come to Asian market soon!
Does the keyboard have multi-touch too?
I bought my HTC Hero in august 2009 and it died March 2012.
I'm getting my new HTC X One next week ^^
I am madly in love with my iPhone, but this looks pretty cool!!
Yup, I hope to see this in Canada soon. But I doubt it since Rogers just recently announced HTC Dream/Magic.
@Usuallyboredalot Yep. It ran stock Android, straight from Google, it was a "Google Experience" phone. Android needed HTC sense, back then.
HTC INTRO!
I have a G1 too.... I wouldnt say this is way ahead.. but it looks really cool..
now i cant deside between this or the satio. what do u think?
htc was a leader of the industry back in 2009
Whats the name of the music in the HTC ads?
What service is this on? And how much is it?
This is the HTC Hero the first Android phone to run HTC's since UI. But it is not the first Android phone, the first Android phone is The HTC G1, aka HTC Dream. This phone came out in 2008.
will this phone be coming to rogers wireless in Canada? (or any carrier in canada) any info would be appreciated
im sorry for the noobish question but, how easy it is to update htc hero from android 1.5 to 2.1?
can u charge an ipod touch using the htc hero battery charger?
This makes the iPhone look like a little kids toy!! Can't wait for it to hit the States!!!
There might be a function to show time of other country? Thus explaining the difference?
I agree, It looks so new and complex but simple. Much more flattering than the iphone in my thoughts.
The design is just very xperia look alike.
Anyway, they have screens "pushed into the device" a bit so that the screen doesn't get scratched when faced down.
im an iphone user, and i got to give it up to android and HTC on this 1,,its pretty cool.
Does the Hero sync with Exchange?
There's a bunch of apps for Android already--but most of them leave a lot to be desired. The google star map thing is pretty slick though.
@DoubleBarrelGuitar this old phone?
I just wish we in the US got it sooner. I'll probably import it in from the UK, since its compatible with the T-Mobile US network anyway
Just looking at the widgets ... You changed the world HTC. I'm recharging my old Sprint Hero now ... as the T-Mobile merger & sprint fades! except... from my psychedelic dreams. My 10-year-old hero is still working. Wow 🤯
Should've kept @Sprint Bitches! Sounds way better 👍🏼🤜🏼🙏🏼☺️ Sprint Rocks & Sprint has meaning... What the hell does T-Mobile mean?!
is that the musician who plays this song. If so, can you please tell me the name of this song?
Thanks.
is this the best phone for sprint?
I just sold my G1 for an iPhone. Both have its strong and weak points. From my experience, the Android interface is incredible. Open source, You can make it your own. can some1 please answer me! is this phone verizon? when does it come out? is it a smartphone?
New firmware update makes this awesome phone even faster and smoother. Go Android!
WOW! I wonder if it really is that fast and smooth. I'm a little sceptical!
does the hero need a data plan on sprint?
I love my 3GS, and that being said, this phone looks great. I'm happy to say that Android can finally explode now with this device. They just needed the right hardware, i think this is the start!
how do u partition it to fat32/ext3/linux-swap on a mac
introducinng the best and coolest looking OS ever!!!!!!!!
Im going for the touch pro 2..keyboard is a must have for me.
i think it might be ulrich schnauss, maybe one of his newer albums, not certain - but it sounds like the type of keyboard/synth sounds he uses that i'm familiar with - even if it's not him i bet you'd like his stuff if you like this
will have the 3,5mm headphone jack?
I had an HTC Eris (US version of Hero) and I loved it. Was sad to see it go. HTC will always make a better phone than samsung!
Me and my friend both have iPhones and I think now he is actually considering getting one of these. I think the layout of everything is great and the customization is what really sells it. I think Apple having the app store is what keeps the iphone fresh, but at&t being the sole provider in the states, is really starting to hurt apple. also is the screen crisp?
i have an iphone and usually i would say no phone comes close but this phone looks freakin sweet, if its that sleek and user friendly then it would be better than the iphone

What a nice piece of Art.
This phone is coming to T-Mobile in the UK. So hopefully you people in America will have the same luck. T-Mobile all the way for me!
I like it! Now I won't wait for any new iPhone any more.
is your carrier gsm?
