I'm trying to help my son and I'm finding his biggest issue the TIME. How much time do you think it should take to read through the sources and then organize your thoughts prior to start writing the synthesis essay?
Take a look at our playlist for AP Lang. We have a series of 5 videos about managing your time on the synthesis essay. In general, we recommend that you complete the reading within the 15-minute reading time for synthesis (and no longer).
Do we need to make a position if the prompt asks to write about the most important factors that should be considered? What I mean is do we still need to pick factors from one side of the argument rather than just list and explain the factors that need to be considered?
A counterclaim is not required by the rubric, but addressing multiple perspectives can help enhance the essay and contribute to high points in evidence/commentary and sophistication. In other words, it's optional.

@@blondejulia Late reply, but yes, I'd say that'd be ideal. Intro (with thesis), two body paragraphs, and a conclusion would be the way to set up a four paragraph essay. If you were to add more paragraphs, that'd be more body paragraphs - there's pretty much always only one intro and one conclusion
Thank you for helping me cram the night before
Happy to help bro

For the sophistication point, would you need to do all of those task you listed in the video or just achieve one of them?
You would need to achieve at least one of them to be awarded the point.

Is Title needed in synthesis essays?
1 hour out boys wish me luck
We got this
How did it go?
When citing a source should I use the last name of the writer or the letter or the source, like source B?
You can use either way. The graders know the sources very well, so your citations can be minimal.
ms jaroch sending us to the trenches with this one
On the ap essays do we use quotes? And if so how many pieces of evidence per paragraph
Keep your direct quotations to a minimum! Check out our AP English Language Playlist for more videos that walk you through each step of the process.

Would it be okay to do 2 evidence supporting and 1 as a counterclaim?
Yes, you can use a variety of structures. The key is to write a well-organized and well-developed essay that supports your thesis.

Can you explain how to implement outside information in the essay?

@@ilyasglobal Amazing! Congrats on being finished!
how many body paragraphs do we need?
It’s up to you. There is no required number, but we recommend trying to write a fully developed essay with at least four full paragraphs in total.
@@MarcoLearning : so the intro, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion? my teacher never told us how to put it together.
