Just bought a 2008 SLK200 Kompressor. Only 163hp, but the driving position, the 6 speed manual, the rwd, the short wheel base, the supercharger, the bucket seats and the open air experience all contribute to make it so much fun to drive! Was expecting a premium car with a sporty twist, but I must say it's much sportier than I expected.

On that car , just put a quality cold air intake , a quality full exhaust, add a aftermarket supercharger pulley and let a renowned shop do the tuning... all in all it will set you back around 2500-3000 € ,if even that, but it will sound AMAZING , and instead of 163 hp, you'll have around 240hp (with the right size s/c pulley) and believe me , 240hp in those cars makes them pretty fast!
For handling: coilovers or lowering springs (depending on budget), PU bushings for the suspension , engine mounts and transmission, and a set of different sized swaybars
I did the same thing on one of those... it really transformed it into a baby supercar for not THAT much money 🤩

The S1 Elise is one of the best drivers cars EVER made, up there and even better than many supercars. To dismiss the S1 is plain daft. The steering feel, throttle response, brake modulation, handling, ride is far, far better than any car on sale today. It may not be super quick by todays standards and have minimal equipment but it is actually as quick in acceleration as a 986 Boxster S, another excellent car but a tank comparison to an S1.

Great pod and intro! For people who can’t afford Porsches, the VW Corrado VR6 is essentially a baby porsche, passive rear steering, electric spoiler that raises at 45mph (first production car to have one), even Gordon Murray used the Corrado mirror caps for the McLaren F1 (lol), it’s a car with a lot of quirks, it just didn’t sell well due to its price mark at the time in the 90s. The only way to make F1 competitve and interesting again is to have 20 races, 20 drivers and 20 cars...each driver drives one race in each car and uses the practice session to get to grips with the different set up. You then get to see who has the best car and who is the best driver. Drivers drive for prize money and can also attract their own commercial deals....and there should be relegation between F1 and F2 with 3 up and 3 down each season.

There _is_ a way to stop one driver dominance in Formula-1.
    "De-Link" Constructor's Championship and Driver's Championship completely.
    Imagine (hypothetically):
    - 22 Races in total in one season
    - 22 Cars on the grid (11 teams)
    - 22 Drivers
    - Each driver _has to_ change car after every race
    - By the end of the season each driver would've driven every single car from every single team
    - Two completely separate Points Table (Constructors' *and* Drivers')
    - Constructors get to show their "dominance" through their own R&Ds' might
    - Drivers get to show their true talents because "technically speaking" _(though not completely)_ it's a totally level playing field
Obviously, the entire culture around the sport will require a major surgery to be able to pull that off ~

The only reason that last year happened is because we stayed in that Formula for 2 years longer than planned. Even williams was getting midfield competitive last year. Formula changes must only happen every decade at a minimum. This will also help bring costs WAY down across the board

The 986.2 is THE bargain at the moment. It is massively undervalued. These cars do not have the dreaded bore score on the 3.4/3.6/3.8, the IMS is upgradable unlike later models which prevents any IMS issue (get one with it done already) and they are cheaper on tax than post 2006 Boxsters. The interior is unashamedly 90s and has some real design flair. Furthermore it is the OG Boxster, the one that'll go down in history. The 987 is quite bland in it's design in my opinion, especially the interior which is like a Golf of the era.

You don’t think an MG is going to be exciting to drive, but you don’t know because you haven’t driven one! Mid engined, rear wheel drive, British designed and made for British roads. MG suspension and steering is generally on point I find, giving the perfect blend of suppleness and driveability. Yes there are issues with head gaskets so good point, and good point by Tony - there are a lot that still haven’t been sorted but it can be done!
RX8 - again good points by Tony until he started talking about pistons - which it doesn’t have any of 😂 Rotor tips wear then the engine starts burning a lot of oil. RX8 drives really well but as you say, wouldn’t dare! They Rev high but also have very little torque, gearing is low though.
Agree about 2008 Mini Cooper S Turbo is the bad Peugeot engine. R53 supercharged engine was Chrysler derived but definitely better than the PSA engine.

If you want the top 911, it's not going to be for you Grand Touring guys who want a manageable trip to Italy. Those days are over. You have to get used to buying the lesser 911s, because the RSs are going to be track cars with number plates. It's following the McLaren Senna official motto... The drivers still belong to a team and earn points for that team every race. However, they will race the car of a different team every race! Crashes are their own liability of course Everyone gets to drive a slower or faster car throughout the season! The specific logistics are a bit fussy, taking the driver away from their team or to share all knowledge of every car.... Alright, the idea is a bit far fetched. But if you try to level out all cars and still retain the R&D aspect, then some greater purpose must be worked towards and shared amongst all teams...

I think if you’re gonna spend nearly 10k on a boxster S you may as well find another 5k and get a 996 as it will need the same 7 or 8k spent on it to maintain the thing as the 911 and if you’re going in for the maintenance spend, you want to end up with a car that’s of a higher value and appreciating faster - further. IMO.

7 or 8k to maintain? If literally everything goes wrong at the same time, yes. I've done 5000 miles on my 986.2 and only replaced two drop links so far. I've had it inspected, its all fine. Just buy a good one!

@@theantler3625 hopefully you get lucky. I’ve had two 996. Both low mileage full service history cars. Both needed new exhaust boxes (headers too in one case) brake lines, wheel bearings, shocks, all the joints and bushes were shot. Obvs needs engine servicing, clutch, Air Oil Separator, may as well do IMS whilst your doing the clutch etc etc Bearing in mind that’s UK cars on bumpy UK roads and crappy UK weather. These parts and the labour is expensive. All well and good buying a boxster for cheap. But it will be painful unless it’s already had work done.

@@gavinleyfield3195 Low mileage is the issue. The best ones have had all the work done already. Mine has had IMS clutch exhaust done before, shocks are on their way out but aside from that shes solid!

I disagree, the 986 is much better balanced car to drive. I've had both a 996 for 7 years and 986 for 3 years. I like them both but if you are on a budget the 986 is a steal ATM and it handles much better with only slightly less oomph. The maintenance on both cars is near identical, they all suffer from worn suspension and share a multitude of the same issues. A £15k 996 could need £5k spending on it instantly and likewise a £6k 986 may need £5k spending on it. its all like for like but I would take a low miles, FSH Boxster S over a tatty high miles 996 for the same price any day.

when i see cars with 1000hp, i wonder how many kms (Miles) that engine will last.....and i'am even scare just to think about maintenance costs....how many will put in the back of garages because they blown the engine and are to expensive to repair or have no parts available and cars worth more than one million will be just "garbage"
