This video was just released... there isn't enough time to watch it in its entirety, but folks are already disliking it. Brutal. Love your content! Keep it up.
Probably disappointed that Brad didn't video Bigfoot...
You know you've made it when the haters come out to play. Sad commentary on our society today.
Thank you for taking extra time to edit in close ups of cleaned finds. It's so much fun to see them in all of their glory and adds so much more!
Well said c s. I agree 100%. Brad is the best. Chuck in NE Kansas
A woman who was a "healer" was sometimes called a witch. She would have potions and medicines to treat people in need. She would make these herself most likely with the wild plants, barks, etc.
Yes, exactly.
Seems like there was a plethora of mushrooms and newts for her potions too! 😁
One of my great great grandmothers was a healer and midwife, also called a natural doctor. My great grandmother went with her to gather all the plants she needed in the woods. My grandma told me lots of wonderful old stories of our family.
Nettles are medicine and they are everywhere there
There were also plenty of people who were genuinely trying to use witchcraft, for good and bad purposes. Great portions of the population believed in it, so of course some would try to use it, and others would be paranoid that everything that went wrong was because of witchcraft. Just look a society's today that still believe in such things in Africa and the Caribbean. Lots of believers, some people trying to practice it, and accusations (even with dire consequences for the accused today).
If you ever get tired of metal detecting, you could always make nature videos. You are very good at it.
For your eagle button to have an iron back means it was used on the headwear and set against leather. On the uniform itself, it would have caused rust to appear. Notice the pronounced crest and position of the wings. That version of the general service button came into use in 1875 until 1902. As usual super video.
Mr. Tom - you are the man! Thanks for the input to the button mystery. Brad's subscribers are such a knowledgeable group. Thumbs up to all! Chuck in NE Kansas
I love your videos. The scenery, plants and critters are very cool to see. Of course, love the artifacts you find also.
I just love that things you show that is not what you are looking for but yet what you see. Like the snake and the nutes. Mmakes me feel like i am right there with you. Love you show.
Always enjoy your videos! It’s hard to imagine that my homestead could potentially be obsolete in a 100 plus years......life is short and precious!Thank you!
Great video, I believe you are one of the best videographer’s , I love the way you capture the beauty of what you see in your travels. Thanks and happy holidays.
Most definitely another great video from our GMMDetectorist! The suspender clips being still in their intact condition is what really amazed me. Two very cool buttons. The IHP, a scale and the usual oil lamp pieces. Your locations for hunting are part of what keeps me watching your videos; your excellent video quality and ability to find these partially remembered sites, then proceed to confirm most of them is why I always return when your videos drop 😃👍
Hey Brad, great finds. When I was a kid, my grandfather used to tell of a local legend he called "Raw Heads & Bloody Bones." As the story went, a RR brakeman was accidentally beheaded while checking the undercarriage of a train he was working. His head allegedly rolled down the embankment and was never found. So on nights when the moon is full, the old brakeman comes back to look for his head. My grandparents' trailer was about 50 yards from the RR tracks so the story was plenty scary lol. HH
Great video Brad! I always love your Friday contributions. Thanks!
Amazing what you find in the hills of Vermont. Nice variety of relics. Very nice buckles & that piece of lead proves you never know what something is until you clean it. Could have been easily tossed in the bag as trash. Oh & I love the little nutes so cool.
Nice adventure and great video as always. Loved the snake close up.
Those Moss covered Logs, are just amazing, and beautiful, also that one Tree with those large roots, out of the ground, amazing. tfs, great finds.
Brad, the numbered item would have been a spring weight scale. Similar to fishing scales.
Probably used to weigh grain or milk.
Every farm has at least one.
Yeah -- was about to say the same thing -- most likely early 20th century.
Yeah I would also say that👍👍👌
Nice vid 😁😁
Greetings and happy hunting from Switzerland 🇨🇭
Yep, that's what I was thinking as well.
To me anything you find amazes me. When someone really love history you love all kinds of history from any era. Just keep looking for us. We love it.
Awesome video, Brad! I really love how you capture the beauty of nature in the woods. A great bunch of finds too. Thanks for showing the research on the finds, that is as much fun as the finds themselves.
Thanks so much, Eric!
I have been watching your videos since you first released them. What I mean is that I am now on this video, working my way forward. This means that this is my first opportunity to tell you what an extremely talented videoagrapher you are. I have always enjoyed the content of your videos, but I have always appreciated the sense of Vermont that you also appreciate. And I also appreciate the way that you never preach or talk loudly to us. You seem to appreciate our presence, but you never denigrate us. I am too a Vermont land owner and although we will never meet (I live in Colombia), I am moved by almost every video that you release!
Brad,
I think you should listen to your instincts. You noticed when you got into the woods that things were not "right". I'm a 73 year old man who has hunted the heavy woods and swamps of my native Louisiana for years. I'm also a retired combat Marine and retired California police officer. Very little scares me anymore and I would usually go into the woods armed to the teeth. More than once I have backed out of a hunting place because things didn't seem "right". Maybe it was too quiet or the feelings of being watched or I would hear movement in the leaves, when I would stop it would stop. These "feelings" kept me alive thru 26 months in Vietnam and 30 years as a cop.
I think you should stay out of the woods alone at least this time of year. Food sources are scarce just before winter sets in and woodland "inhabitants" are more stressed. What may avoid you the rest of the year may see your intrusion as competition for food or perhaps you inadvertently disturbed a hunt. Neither which is good for you. Your hobby requires you to wear headphones and spend most your time looking at the ground. Again not advantageous to you. I know your armed but that side arm is not going to do you much good for anything other than a single coyote or wolf and they rarely come one at a time and I think what your hearing may be much bigger.
If you need to go into the woods take a friend and you can take turns metal detecting while the other watches. Avoid going early in the morning and late in the afternoon, especially if there is a chance you might have to walk out after dark.
You could also stick to the fields and old home sites for the winter.
The witch story may have been an attempt to keep folks out of the area back when witches were thought to be more than we consider them to be today. It may be that something else was in that area long before the settlers came and left. Something is behind the stories in that area. Talk to the land owners again, you may learn even more.
Exceptional! Love the witch story, the fog was perfect for the story. Haha! I haven't ever seen so many different mushrooms! Beautiful country! I love the finds especially the padlock. Thanks for starting off another wonderful Friday!
Loved the comment about the newts, I had "eye of newt" running thru my head. Their cute, colorful little guys.
Thank you! TGIF GMMD DAY!
A SUCCESSFUL DAY BRAD I WOULD SAY, VERY ENJOYABLE AS ALWAYS.
GREAT TO BE OUT THERE WITH YOU, LOVE THE WOODS. CAMILLE AUST.
I always enjoy your stories and adventures into the woods of Vermont. You found some great items there. Worth checking out again. Would love to know the story behind the witch. Got to love the old folklore stories that get passed down and how they change over the years. Thanks again for all you do.
Fantastic video as always! How are you liking the Max? A little bit of a learning curve from the pro, but an amazing relic machine. Awesome finds...thanks for sharing and Happy New Year. ~ Gypsy
Thanks Gypsy! Loving it!
Going Back and watching some of the older stuff... the scale resembles a fish weighing scale my grandfather had back in the 40s. There was a hook at the bottom to hang the fish and the scale was in pounds. Just a thought.
How can anyone thumbs down these vids lol, obviously have no clue what great MD'ing content is!! Great vid bud..
The tree stump with the rocks stacked on top is interesting because Bigfoot likes to do rock stacking. Not saying that one did that but who knows. Thanks for the video and hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
Awesome Video and great finds! Yeah... that was funny that the owner just happened to forget to mention something about a Witch and Bigfoot! Definitely sounds like the situations I get myself into as well..lol. Anyways... great video and your going to love the Garrett AT MAX... excellent all around metal detector!
I live vicariously through your videos Brad. So interesting and exciting to see what you find underground. Thank you for the beautiful videography you include with each episode.
Regarding the lead flower, and this is just a guess. To keep the draft out it's normal practice to put lead weights in the hem of curtains, especially across doorways. Maybe the lead flower was a decorative version for lighter weight curtains.
Great channel, keep 'em coming!
Great video Brad. The “Flower” looks to me to be an arrangement of acorns, with the textured part being the acorn caps. Well done. HH
Yup. Might have adorned a chest. The acorn has some significance.
I'm sure by now you have snow there..here in Minnesota we sure do , so watching this video is very refreshing. I always love your content. I watch lots of videos but yours by far are my favorites.
I used to love hanging out in the woods behind Pioneer kaserne. We walked in the woods after dinner on weekends
Very Nice video again and thanks for sharing. Greetings from WW2HistoryHunter.
You got to love the woods. Sweet finds.
The buckle you found around 5:00 was probably covered in fabric. The fabric disappeared, and all which is left is the skeleton of the frame, I believe. The buckle is to «thin» to not have any coverings.
Very nice hunt! Love the mystery of history. So very cool!
Nice video and sweet finds! I didn't scroll through all the comments to see if it was ID'd, but I believe the lead flower piece is an early bridal rosette. Looking forward to your next video!
Binging on your videos. Along with stealth diggers. Loving the structures in the trees & walls. Thank you for what you do for us.
I love the art you always have as your thumbnails! Good job! 👍👍👍
Such unique finds! It's like Christmas waiting for each treasure to be identified.
Loved it, as usual. Never stop please.
Lots of great dated and marked artifacts, Brad. That's a very interesting area!
Ah, you found a large seat belt buckle to late model broom. 1889, 1892 Nimbo 2000... lol 🤔
Good sir, you and your channel are one of the most professionally produced channels in the Tube! Your good nature and the nature you show us makes us more grounded and peaceful people's. We appreciate your efforts to connect us to our history as Americans. The music you create for these videos is by far the most beautiful sound I hear anywhere. Please make music we could buy.!!!
Thanks so much! My music can be purchased at www.GMMD.us!
Heck yeah, another awesome video! Really great finds and I always think of the people who lived there before and how they lived their lives. The ground is covered in deep snow here in Colorado, so I am already having cabin fever. Plus, with Colorado being a younger state, I haven't found any relics or coins. And who knows of the detectorists before me in the '80's. I watch videos of you all on the east coast, and boy do I get excited! Although, my dad has found a lot of Civil War relics in Iowa, along the Mississippi. Fantastic video Brad, always look forward to them! BTW, I must have missed your introduction, what is your new detector?
Oh! Am I the only one who hits "like" the very second it starts?!
Mountain Mettling no your not I do it too!
Enjoyed the stories that went with the site. I always enjoy hearing these Legends. The newts were so cool. Thanks for sharing the hunt and finds. I like that old lock piece. Good luck, happy hunting and take care.
Great video as always! The witch story alone would’ve made this a great Halloween video. I hope your Thanksgiving was a great one filled with family and friends!
Excellent, that flower could be decoration, I love your views of nature and enjoy the finding and history of the items you find.
If one day you are out and are bored as you are detecting there are 2 flowers that i have seen on yourvideos . One s called jack in the pulpet? Which is a green brown and beige colors the back of the flower is shaped like a flute glass with a over hanging flap and in the middle is a straight thin shaped stalkwith the flap on the top covering the stalk it is quite disqualified. Not very tall but i have seen them in your videos.and the 2nd one is called a glass slipper.
Great finds! Love the buckles😍 always a fantastic video! Thanks for taking us along👍🏻 HH🎧⛏
Hi Brad, some very unique finds there, I think I like the flower button/motif. Thanks for sharing. x
Outstanding as always brad !
Hope you had a splendid thanksgiving! Hope all is well
Carry on !
Some interesting finds Brad, that sportsman button company was very short lived.
Nice button, handle etc.I'd go for a scale of some sort. Could be ounces. Those buttons really great. Another great video.
Great finds thanks for sharing
Good morning Brad !! I've been telling my family about your channel so today I shared this video with my oldest sister to see what she thinks of you and your finds. Today had several great treasures !!! See ya next Friday .
Thanks for sharing!
David Paulides mentions New Hampshire area for missing folks and weirdness..and this guy just deals in facts...as remote as some of these areas nothing would surprise me...great video..
1:46 Will-o'-the-wisp...having Celtic ancestry (and grandkids) I have managed to see the movie, Brave. You'll see what we celts understand them to be. Or if you're more scientific you may believe them to simply be small pockets of methane gas spontaniously burning. So if there is no boggy ground there...it is probably the wee little faerie like creatures. ;-)
I'm of Celiac ancestry. It was known whispering willows. They're lights and if you chase them they move away and it keeps playing that game. Many people have gotten lost chasing them. They are still being seen.
Also supposed to be the souls of the dead
I've heard the tales of the soul's evading capture and letting those trailing them moving further and further away from whence they came. To end up lost forever in the woods and mountains.
@@dawncarpenter1358 Perhaps they are Ghost Orbs?
I'm no expert by no means. I have seen them at a young age. They could be spirits. They are not like orbs, and bigger than lightening bugs. They are bright with a sparkle to it. They remind me of a fairy. There are many tails of fairies in the Celtics. Sounds strange or that I'm nuts. Who knows what they are.
Will 'o the wisp appears like a small glowing cloud that moves just above the just above the ground, especially in older cemeteries. It is thought to be phosphorous emanating from decayed graves.
Another top notch video Brad. In regards to the story of the witch. Remember playing telephone as a kid? Just imagine how the story could change and evolve over the course of 100 years.
So finding eye of newt wouldn't have been a problem back in the day.😁,
You've got some enjoyable videos!I
Especially glad when you flash explanations/identifications on screen. I don't want to walk away questioning what you found.
Great hunt Brad, love the relics!
I think the brass with numbers was a scale probably on a counter in a kitchen or a general store. Thanks, enjoy your finds.
I think the piece of brass u found with the numbers on it is the front plate of a spring loaded weight scale there was a ring at the top to hold it and a hook at the base to hold the item to be weighed and at the rear of the plate was a housing that held a spring. When lifted it measured the weight of an item & was hand held
That is the front of the lock. The key hole was in the bottom. I found a complete one a few years back.
At 12:13 you have a great deal of tree breaks and x formations which is boundry marks for old BF SQ. Watch out.
I have a couple of those scales and still use them for weighing grain. Nice find and another great video.
Nice variety of stuff and things. Too bad you didn't find the whole bicycle! Cool find! Usually the badge off bicycles are the part that is missing. Loved the suspension and buckle. Suprised you didn't find a large copper but, i love indian head pennys. HH!! Hope you can hunt the sight some more. Around the dump area is interesting!
Hello Brad I'm from Brittany, France, and I also do metal detecting, your video are awesome! Beautiful landscape!
Very nice finds! I agree that the woman could have been a healer.
Another great vid...cool finds...lookup foxfire...bioluminescent fungus attributed to faerie lights...peace!
your music is wonderful,too!
Love the music, that drumbeat sounds awesome!
Hey Brad, I highly recommend The Garrett 5x8 dd coil, great for old homesites, i have one for my 400, luv it, I wont take it off,Enjoying The Max, I was hoping too get one in the spring, the plugs connections are very friendly too us people with poor eyesite, but thats why I love my 400,just an easy machine, and great machine, happy holidays
Thanks Brian, I have one!
Great videos as always! Based on all the properties you are allowed to detect on, there just seems like not enough time in the summer in Vermont to detect all the land you are allowed on. Good problem to have though.
Awesome video!
Im in Afghanistan and I watch these videos all the time Im from SE Massachusetts. Ive had a few finds at FT Phoenix in Fairhaven , Massachusetts. musket balls, a rust encrusted flintlock pistol on the beach, plenty of old pewter spoons. FT Phoenix a colonial site and also war of 1812 battle. Were lucky to live were we do much history everywhere. tanx
Will-o'-wisps, Sasquatch, Moosesquatch, and Squatchness monsters are real. I agree with Steve the "balance" is a fish scale balance from the weight of 0 to 24 lbs. Nice finds. Too bad no witch evidence like a broom or black cat, but it could have been a well-dressed woman who fished and kept to herself playing the harmonica on her ornate flowered chair. Also it is good to see a reminder of past summer. Thanks Brad!
love from Australia
Do you use light oil to loosen parts that are supposed to move but are stuck due to the years underground? I would think that would help..??
There is no excuse for your video to get a dislike!! Trolls are out in full course these days!!! Enjoyed the walk in the woods!!
Your in a field of yellow root " goldenseal" I seen some Solomon seal as well, all very useful plants.
Those buckle are nice. Great video, especially the snake and mushrooms. I will see you on the next one. happy hunting. Oh, I swing that same machine. It's pretty good.
Great day! Enjoyed. Your mushroom shots were lovely.
6:18 unster scale. Very Nice.
In 2019, a group of researchers found a camera ”somewhere in the forests of Vermont”. Great video once again. Stay safe out there!
Could that scale be for a small weighing device for precious stone or metals, or medicinal materials? Loved seeing the newts, we do not have that type in the U.k.-though the Crested Newt can be very colourful.
Nice finds love the video and the way you show nature
I found a lock like that on Ebay for $125.00 WOW to bad it wasn't complete! Awesome finds Brad...
Nice job Brad!!!!
Interesting stuff Brad. No sign of cat bones then?
I like the new style, showing the cleaned-up finds after we look at them - that's a good idea.
Cheers for now,
Dougie.
5:44 looks kind of like the face plate a fish scale. (?)
Oh BTW I received my CD and I love it!!! So talented...
Look at that flower again, its an egg and dart pattern but with acorns, which also symbolizes the beginning of life. The V between the acorns is the dart. The pattern is used a lot in old tin ceiling crown mold.
I think it's great you do your own music. The treasure hunt is very cool too!!😉🎸🥁🎶🎵👍
Thank you!!
Ive heard will of the wisp from my gramps,he was from Maine, funny i havent heard that term mentioned since his storytelling in my childhood👍
Nice finds, enjoyed the video. GL HH.
If water damages the patina, have you tried using rubbing alcohol or vodka instead?
About fifty years ago I was issued a shotgun and full brass cased twelve gauge buckshot to walk guard duty around aircraft while enlisted in the USMC. When I was young, I have heard old timers speak of full brass shotgun shells "back in the day" too.
Well done Brad
I believe the brass piece "Warranted" is part of a scale.
