Listening to this video, I can see where King Dedede _sorta_ got his voice clips in Super Smash Bros. from. I theorize that Masahiro Sakurai wanted to voice Dedede with noises closer to an actual king penguin, with several cartoon liberties thrown in.
More like one of the late season chicks from the previous year. Some chicks are born late in the season that by the time they remain in the colony to moult off their juvenile fluff, many of the new chicks in the colony have hatched.
