Grieving someone who’s still alive is something I didn’t think was possible. Addiction took my soulmate, it tore down everything we built. After 3 rehab stays, going missing on me 2 times, and 3 relapses I’ve had to step back and just pray that he will wake up and stay sober and happy for the rest of his life. I was killing myself trying to save someone who didn’t want to be saved. The man that I fell in love with left and a monster took his place. I beg and beg god that someday, even if it isn’t now, he can stay sober for more than a year and keep that up and live a long, healthy, happy life.

My best friend and love of my life passed away in 2017, right after we found out we were pregnant. I almost died the day I found out he was found dead in his apartment (he was in the process of moving to the town I had moved to for work, and we had survived a long distance relationship and remained strong during that time) I got the call that he had been found and I swear if it wasn’t for our baby, I would have died on the floor of my parents house right then and there. That shit hurt so much. Our beautiful baby girl was born 7 months later (was a month early and had to be in NICU following breathing issues), but she is safe, healthy and the best gift I could have ever gotten. She will be 6 in September. She’s my reason to keep going even when shit gets tough. She is the best part of her daddy and I’m beyond thankful that I get to have a piece of him still with me. RIP, James, Hope and I love and miss you so much.

If that is the case, and you still love each other, for the love of God, work this out! You have a 20+ year history together, not to mention the children. It is EXTREMELY hard to connect with someone and make it work again, but it can and has been done. Life is all about love and forgiveness. We all make mistakes. It's what we do to after the fact, that defines us. We can learn and build from them, or stay in the negative and be depressed, angry, sad, and all the other negativity that goes along with that negative realm. I understand that there is still hurt, and always will be when you think back on this. However, it's not nearly as bad if when you reflect, you can say "Remember when we went through that? I am so glad we made the choices we did, because look how strong our love is now." If you are still in love with each other, suggest counseling (TOGETHER!), to work through this. You MUST be supportive, positive, and encouraging throughout this process. I know you are upset and emotions are all over the place... Love conquers all - remember that. He has some hard work to do on his end as well - addiction ain't no joke. There are many factors in this screwed up world we live in, that played into this. This is a rough road to go down, but imagine the pain he was/is in, to have made this decision to kill it. Or just mask it for a bit...

This hits my heart deeply cause i never experienced love, support and trust from my family and brother. my grandparents were always there for me they made me a better person who could smile, laugh, be themselves. joke, tell funny stories, watch funny movies, talk about anything, relaxing doing nothing and more. it reminds me of my grandma and i our strong bond we have because she taught me how to be myself cause she always told me to be myself even when my family treated me by saying what was wrong and yelling at me. Sometimes Divorce is worst then death cause you still have to see that person. I didn’t know you could grieve someone still alive but I am living proof you can. I have been divorced since 2012 and have never and will I ever love someone the way I loved him. It’s so hard because we have two beautiful children and I have to hold it together for them. I will die missing and loving him. This song hits hard for so many people for so many reasons. I pray for all of you that have broken hearts like me.

It will be 2 years in August that we lost a very inspirational woman. We called her mum, wife, gran.. she fought 2 types of cancer for 14 years. She even pushed on at the end. They said she will last 2 days she lasted 9 days. She made sure to see all her daughters, grandchildren brothers & sisters. And her husband and myself were there with her when she past. After telling her it's OK to let go.she loved this song was played at her funeral 😢❤

I lost my husband March 26,2024 from respiratory failure. He consumed too much beer and 1 pack of cigarettes a day. He was frustrated about his health and just to make him happy beer and cigarettes are his outlet. We’ve been together for 38 years and married for 33 years. I love a man who has bipolar disorder. He's amazing, loving, caring, funny, sweet to me, but when he becomes manic and/or depressed, I become his worst enemy. He becomes nasty, looks for reasons to break it off, makes things up, etc. I sit here wondering what kind of a disorder would make you hate the person you love??? His love turns on and off. It's been three weeks since he told me that he needs to stay away from me because I'm fake. When he sees me, he quickly disappears, and when I try to talk to him he turns and leaves or we just walk right by each other and he won't even acknowledge me. One of his last text to me was "stay away from me, you don't exist." The text before he went into a manic mood was "I love you very much". This has been going on for almost 7 months. One moment he's so in love with me and then out of nowhere he doesn't want to know I exist. I love him so much and it's killing me that we can't have a stable relationship. When I hear this song, my tears just pour out of my eyes because it's exactly how I feel. I don't want to know anyone else, no other's touch, no other's kiss, only his. I'm completely destroyed. I know I need to let him go, but I keep waiting for him to come back. Every time he goes, I feel like I'm grieving a death. My heart aches. I would break my heart in two trying to save him from this disorder!
Nearly the same. Married and together seven years he stone walls me every few months when he does something wrong and refuses to apologize. He’s type 2 and bad mood disorder. At the end we have to love ourselves enough to walk away and heal. They will be ok without us until they get tired of the cycles and seek help alone. Don’t break your own heart for no one. I let him go a month and a half ago and am not just starting to grieve and wake up. Wish I’d of let go sooner.

Hi honey - I've loved a bipolar man for 12 years. It doesn't get any easier with time. In fact, the longer he goes without medication and therapy, the worse it'll get. My man has turned to severe drinking to ease his pain. I know how much you hurt. I learned the best thing to do is to set boundaries and learn to love yourself. When he turns on me, I don't respond and I don't talk to him/see him until he's back in his right mind. Sending you hugs.❤

First of all, from my understanding, he has since passed? If so, my condolences to you and your family. Addiction is a disease that is misunderstood by so many. The person doesn't want to be an addict. They fight every day not to be. My husband passed away 6 months ago. He was a recovering addict. We were married 30 years. Grant it, it wasn't easy. We were in and out of each other's lives. I had to learn to love him from a distance because of his addiction. As he got sick, I was with him every day. When he passed, my world crushed right from under me. I don't remember our bad times. I remember the good because without his addiction, he was a good man. He was a good father and a good grandfather. My life is not the same. Every day is a struggle. I have to put my "mask" on every day to show my kids that I'm okay. I have to be okay for them(and my grand kids). I pray. I pray all the time. I'm learning and adjusting to my new life. It's a new change. A different change. Friends and family don't understand this change. Sometimes, I want to be alone. Sometimes, I want to cry. Sometimes, I want to be with friends/family. Remember, there's no right way to grieve. I've learned that it's all baby steps, and with faith, It'll be okay. I know I'll be happy again... but for today, I tell my friends/family, to let me take "my new life" one day at a time. And stop telling me, "He would want me to move on." I'll pray for you because this new life is about "you" and what "you" want to do in life. Grieving someone who’s still alive is something I didn’t think was possible. Addiction took my soulmate, it tore down everything we built. After 3 rehab stays, going missing on me 2 times, and 3 relapses I’ve had to step back and just pray that he will wake up and stay sober and happy for the rest of his life. I was killing myself trying to save someone who didn’t want to be saved. The man that I fell in love with left and a monster took his place. I beg and beg god that someday, even if it isn’t now, he can stay sober for more than a year and keep that up and live a long, healthy, happy life.

My best friend and love of my life passed away in 2017, right after we found out we were pregnant. I almost died the day I found out he was found dead in his apartment (he was in the process of moving to the town I had moved to for work, and we had survived a long distance relationship and remained strong during that time) I got the call that he had been found and I swear if it wasn’t for our baby, I would have died on the floor of my parents house right then and there. That shit hurt so much. Our beautiful baby girl was born 7 months later (was a month early and had to be in NICU following breathing issues), but she is safe, healthy and the best gift I could have ever gotten. She will be 6 in September. She’s my reason to keep going even when shit gets tough. She is the best part of her daddy and I’m beyond thankful that I get to have a piece of him still with me. We can learn and build from them, or stay in the negative and be depressed, angry, sad, and all the other negativity that goes along with that negative realm. I understand that there is still hurt, and always will be when you think back on this. However, it's not nearly as bad if when you reflect, you can say "Remember when we went through that? I am so glad we made the choices we did, because look how strong our love is now." If you are still in love with each other, suggest counseling (TOGETHER!), to work through this. You MUST be supportive, positive, and encouraging throughout this process. I know you are upset and emotions are all over the place... Love conquers all - remember that. He has some hard work to do on his end as well - addiction ain't no joke. There are many factors in this screwed up world we live in, that played into this. This is a rough road to go down, but imagine the pain he was/is in, to have made this decision to kill it. Or just mask it for a bit...

It will be 2 years in August that we lost a very inspirational woman. We called her mum, wife, gran.. she fought 2 types of cancer for 14 years. She even pushed on at the end. They said she will last 2 days she lasted 9 days. She made sure to see all her daughters, grandchildren brothers & sisters. And her husband and myself were there with her when she past. After telling her it's OK to let go.she loved this song was played at her funeral 😢❤

I lost my husband March 26,2024 from respiratory failure. He consumed too much beer and 1 pack of cigarettes a day. He was frustrated about his health and just to make him happy beer and cigarettes are his outlet. We’ve been together for 38 years and married for 33 years. I love a man who has bipolar disorder. He's amazing, loving, caring, funny, sweet to me, but when he becomes manic and/or depressed, I become his worst enemy. He becomes nasty, looks for reasons to break it off, makes things up, etc. I sit here wondering what kind of a disorder would make you hate the person you love??? His love turns on and off. It's been three weeks since he told me that he needs to stay away from me because I'm fake. When he sees me, he quickly disappears, and when I try to talk to him he turns and leaves or we just walk right by each other and he won't even acknowledge me. One of his last text to me was "stay away from me, you don't exist." The text before he went into a manic mood was "I love you very much". This has been going on for almost 7 months. One moment he's so in love with me and then out of nowhere he doesn't want to know I exist. I love him so much and it's killing me that we can't have a stable relationship. When I hear this song, my tears just pour out of my eyes because it's exactly how I feel. I don't want to know anyone else, no other's touch, no other's kiss, only his. I'm completely destroyed. I know I need to let him go, but I keep waiting for him to come back. Every time he goes, I feel like I'm grieving a death. My heart aches. I would break my heart in two trying to save him from this disorder!

Nearly the same. Married and together seven years he stone walls me every few months when he does something wrong and refuses to apologize. He’s type 2 and bad mood disorder. At the end we have to love ourselves enough to walk away and heal. They will be ok without us until they get tired of the cycles and seek help alone. Don’t break your own heart for no one. I let him go a month and a half ago and am not just starting to grieve and wake up. Wish I’d of let go sooner.

Addiction is a disease that is misunderstood by so many. The person doesn't want to be an addict. They fight every day not to be.
My husband passed away 6 months ago. He was a recovering addict. We were married 30 years. Grant it, it wasn't easy. We were in and out of each other's lives. I had to learn to love him from a distance because of his addiction. As he got sick, I was with him every day. When he passed, my world crushed right from under me. I don't remember our bad times. I remember the good because without his addiction, he was a good man. He was a good father and a good grandfather.
My life is not the same. Every day is a struggle. I have to put my "mask" on every day to show my kids that I'm okay. I have to be okay for them(and my grand kids).
I pray. I pray all the time.
I'm learning and adjusting to my new life. It's a new change. A different change. Friends and family don't understand this change. Sometimes, I want to be alone. Sometimes, I want to cry. Sometimes, I want to be with friends/family.
Remember, there's no right way to grieve. I've learned that it's all baby steps, and with faith, It'll be okay. I know I'll be happy again... but for today, I tell my friends/family, to let me take "my new life" one day at a time. And stop telling me, "He would want me to move on."
I'll pray for you because this new life is about "you" and what "you" want to do in life.
(We were so used to taking care of our husbands that we forgot how to take care of ourselves)
