  • Well guys the new Kilkerran 8 year old sherry cask matured has arrived and I thought I would do a video giving you my first impressions on a freshly opened bottle. I will give this bottle a month or two to settle down and then do a proper review as I think it is unfair to review a bottle like this on first tasting.
Moving forward I will do the same for all new, freshly opened bottles. For this first impression I compare this years batch to last year, and let you know some of the differences. Understand these are all my subjective thoughts and opinons may differ. Also see timestamps below. If you are in the UK and are struggling to get a bottle The Carnegie Whisky Cellars still have stock available (will leave a link below). Hope you enjoy my first impressions. Have a great weekend. Cheers!

Great comparison! I enjoyed the 2023 edition and I loved the 2024 as well! The batches are quite different. I really enjoy the 16! Nicely done! I do find that the Kilkerran 8 opens up in a terrific way over time! The 2023 batch is my favourite as well! Great thoughts! I love longer thoughtful videos! In Canada we do pay quite a bit more when we can find this terrific Kilkerran expression! I look forward to the full review of the 2024! Thank you!! Cheers!

Many thanks for your comment. Yes, completely agree with you that the Kilkerran 8 opens up over time. The 2023 batch is just great, and has amazing balance between the spirit and the sherry casks. The 2024 batch I found to be more distillate led but still a great dram. I will definitely get around to do a full review soon of the 2024 and do another comparison between the 2023. Imo one of the best value whiskies around if you can get it at retail price. Being in Canada I can only empathise the prices you have to pay but Kilkerran is always a solid purchase imo. Just don't pay the flippers of course :) Just noticed that you have subscribed so welcome to the channel and great to have you here 🥃

Hi I was just at Spring bank tasting tried eight year-old cask strength and thought it was fabulous so I was looking for reviews and yours was the first that came up. Glad I watched it,thoroughly enjoyed your thoughts and comments. I only wish I had a 2023 to compare it to.
At end of the tasting we had a chance to purchase some bottles and most people passed on the eight year-old so I was able to pick uptwo for $97 Canadian each
I hope people keep passing on it so that I can find it next time it comes out

Thanks for your comment mate. Surprised that people passed up on it...it is one of the releases I look forward to the most every year. I still prefer the 2023 as imo it has a bit more balance between the sherry and Kilkerran spirit, however the 2024 is still an amazing dram for the money and hard to beat it at its price point.

@@whiskyjourney175 I was surprised too, but they were just interested in the local barley 13 year, springbank 15 and the springbank 10 there was 11 killKerran ‘s eight cask strength left in the end plus a few longrow nv which by the way is amazing this new batch 14/11/23 I managed to pick a couple of these up.

Not a friend of the Campbeltown hype and the resulting price hikes and speculation, but since our Dutch Dozen friends offered him virtually at retail (under €72) while German shops were approaching the € 100 mark, I went for it 😊.

Cheers for your comment mate. I am sure you will enjoy it. For me it's definitely opened up a bit with time in the bottle. Still quite distillate led with a backdrop of sherry. Overall very enjoyable and represents great value imo 🥃
