Dad also said Wheeler Dam used to be full of Sauger. (don't know if it still is). I remember when I was a little girl, they used to bring home stringers full of them. Dad said for them big smallmouth, you guy's need to roll up when the turbines are off...about a football field away from the dam, early morning, right before the sun comes out. Jitterbug, black with yellow eyes. Chunk it and let it sit still until the water rings go away before you start reeling it back in. He also said if the little smallmouth are biting, you'll never catch a big one. If the big ones are biting, the little ones usually hide. You'll catch all little ones, or all big ones but you'll never catch a mixture of both. Watching you guy's brings back memories. Thanks for posting these. 🥰
@@DaveWhiteoutdoors Nice to know they are still in there. Dad could have turned pro in the 70's and 80's but said Bassmaster's pots wasn't big enough to support a family of 4 back then. Saugers are good eating. Thanks for responding, Dave, that's pretty sweet of you to do that. Hope you're having a great day and good luck on future tournaments.
@@DaveWhiteoutdoors I don't know if they still do this or not, but Dad said you used to be able to call the dam and ask when their turbine schedule is. When they plan to turn them on or off. That info might help you out next time. I don't know if they still answer those questions anymore though but it's worth asking. Take care, good luck with your channel. 🥰
Dad caught a 7.8 ounce smallmouth at the beginning of sunrise while fog was on the water. Jitterbug (original, black with yellow eyes). Looked like a toilet flushed underneath it. Wheeler Dam. Nice golden one he had mounted. He caught another that was more dark green that weighed 5.8.

That’s not wheeler dam. That looks like Guntersville dam. If you headed upstream on Wheeler that’s guntersville dam.
@@BigGuyIn_aLittleBoat Thanks for the call out I did not word that right! Thanks for watching!
Can't throw in front of the boat as a coangler. Disrespectful..
@@TmarkHigg-br4kw yep that was not a good cast and we talked about it. Threw it way to vertically trying to play the current from the dam.
