That example about the elephant who learns to only travel as far as the stake they are bound to allows, even after the stake is removed, is profound. Perfect internalized patriarchy metaphor, thank you
The RUclips algorithm just recently suggested Ms. Allebest’s episodes, and this was the first time I’ve ever heard about her. Well, I’m hooked. She is so open, funny and welcoming of all. Whenever I speak about the patriarchy, I become livid!!! I’ll be sure to check out her podcast, too.
I know I am coming late to this video and to comment, but I just want to thank and congratulate you on your fabulous YT channel and this great seminar. There is soooo much patriarchy and misogyny woven into the fabric of our societies that really needs to be examined (but is not). Bless you for shining a light on this very important topic.
Even if we can't make things perfect, we can make things better ❤ Gosh, Amy! I love this lecture so much. And Clitoris! Continue shouting her name from the rooftops! I met her in 2014, and we're good, good friends today.
Also women have noted that we say violence against women not males who beat their SOs or domestic violence rather then male violence upon SOs we frame it as if it just happens like she fell down the stairs all by herself! There is no male involved! You'd have to read inside past the headline to find out the perp was male.
Absolutely fantastic presentation. If I were to do a presentation on the patriarchy, it would be very similar, as the issues you focused on are the issues I would also focus on. Just discovered your channel and I am an instant fan.
I'm conflicted about this. I was quite the feminist the first 30 years of my life. Felt proud to have been brought up in a matriarchal family, downright critical of men actually. Then I met a great guy, then we went thru 10 years of infertility, during which time I withdrew from a phD program ABD, then I went all in with parenting and homeschooling. In the last 5 years, I was diagnosed with autism and deconverted from organised religion. I share all this bc now I feel very lucky to have in my husband the support person I need. The thought of going back to work outside the home overwhelms me, and the fear of having to live independently downright terrifies me. I'm grateful there's a segment of the population that values my contributions to my children, but I'm happy to encourage my daughter to pursue whichever lifestyle she wants, public sphere or private sphere.
Thank you! I’m soon 66. I did not pursue higher education. I would love to take a course called Dismantle the Patriarchy. I’ll be getting and reading the books mentioned. Thanks so much for your work!!!
Small correction. Women actually won the right to vote in England in 1918, but it was restricted to women who owned property. Full suffrage was granted in 1928, whereas full suffrage wasn't won by US women until 1965. So UK women actually had the right to vote 38 years before America. 😉
This is soooooo important! It was wonderful to see someone reference Ejaculate Responsibly”. And, finally, your image of us swimming in this muck is palpable. Thank You!!!!!😊

I loved every minute of this presentation!!
As a near 60 year old woman who has dealt with over bearing men most of my life, I am so glad that I have found your channel. Thank you!!!

It seems no one is in control of the machine, yet we all still need to fight for better balance.
Defeat the patriarchy! Let your wife sleep with other men!
Loved this ❤

Where are you? So sad I didn’t know about this! 😢
choose your background carefully
Have you ever interviewed Margaret Atwood?
The current SCOTUS wants to go back and "review" Griswold 🤨
Everybody seems to have a gripe about something nowadays.
It takes 6-8 weeks for a woman's (lower) body to fully recover after child birth. Yet, American women go back to work after 2 weeks? By choice?
