      I didn't want to copy you so I started on Riverbend Springs. I chose a different starting equipment but followed your experience of fertilizing then cultivating to get started. That worked out great. Just recently bought a land plot to call home. I chose goats to start with before greenhouses, but that is definitely my next go to. Thanks again Syrup!!

    Deadwood trees work great for the small sawmill. It consumes about two of those trees per month so it's easy to keep it topped off. You can slice them up into pieces of less than 200 kg and toss them onto a small trailer, so it's fast and easy work.
    On easy difficulty, the 36k investment will be paid off in about 3 months, probably double that on normal - not an exact calculation, but somewhere in that range.

    buying the homestead is more economical in the long run for progression. it has a cultivated field, passive income chicken coop, a building that you cannot have practical use of, but can sell to some money back in your account (think of it as a rebate on your purchase). Imo if you buy the empty land, it's going to cost more in the long run to develop the land for your personalized use. again, after you get the larger money contacts, do the smaller ones that are quick to do to cover your loan and cover your maintenance cost on your equipment to avoid the struggle of doing you jobs (Horsepower of your tractor is greatly degraded, when not at 100%) you are doing well on your gameplay! Keep up the rhythm to accelerate your progression

    • @syrupgames
      @syrupgames  2 дня назад

      Yeah, buying the established homestead is definitely the more economical choice, but I would much prefer to build my own homestead from scratch... I'll have to see how it goes, I suppose I could always buy the starter homestead early on to save money, and then build up my own on that other land once I'm more established

      I agree with the idea of land with trees to remove for profit though. Especially since the trees on this map are WAY better for forestry than Riverbend Springs. So many limbs on the trees and the de-limb part of the chainsaw is broken. Plus forests so thick I have failed 2 deadwood contracts because I couldn't find all the trees, or they were growing INSIDE another tree. ugh. Prolly gonna restart on Zelonka.

    In this comment, I am making an observation, offering advice to others and seeking advice from those more knowledgeable than I am. In advance, please forgive me, this is going to be a very long post.
    In a previous video, I mentioned Syrup inspired me to create my own scenario. My intention was to start by driving into town, nearly broke, with deplorable credit (aka: no loans) and only a pick-up truck to my name. As I was not all that experienced at the game, I felt it best to make 1 day = 1 week. Hence, 4 days would be a month. Crop destruction was turned off. All other things were turned on. Given I can't seem to drive worth a damn, turning the crop destruction off turned out to be the best starting idea I had.
    As for the 4 days, however, this may be a little long. As basically a newbie - with not much more than the tutorial under my belt - starting with nothing was going to take some time to figure out. In such a case, I would advise all new players to start with a 3 or 4 day month. This will give you the time to figure out what you are doing and how to play the game. Bare in mind, the game does allow for up to a 28 day month and speed up to like 240 or something ridiculous, like that. Once you get used to what you are doing and are proficient enough to get what needs to be accomplished each month - including enough time to not only work your own fields, but some contract work as well - I've discovered most people are perfectly fine with 1 or 2 day months at 3 - 6x speed. My best advice - from what I have experienced so far - if any of you desire to start playing or are fairly new to the game: Start with three or four days for the first month. There is a LOT to do in month 1. Plus you will waste a large portion of the first day trying to figure things out. For instance, I spent nearly 1/4 a day trying to figure out how to operate my basic equipment... including just lowering the tailgate on my puck-up truck! Another 1/2 of the day was spent checking out the store, trying to come up with ideas and thinking of things I may wish to buy in the future. That left only 1/4 of that first day to get anything done.
    After that first 3 or 4 days, however, by then you should have a clue and all the basic things should be done. At this time, you should have a good idea of how comfortable you will be adjusting to a regular schedule. In my case, as soon as October hit (Note: the game starts in the last of August, be it 1 day or 28, the next morning is September 1. Hence, having at least 3 days to start your game is wise, as a new month will start at midnight on day 1. Also note, if starting with more than 1 day, the 2nd day will be September 2. October 1 happens when your days are done. Ie: I started with 4 days. Day 2 was Sep 1, followed by Sep 2 and day 4 was Sept 3. The following morning was October 1.)
    In my game, it is now October 1. I've switched the clock to reflect 2 days = 1 month. I think of it as, "being paid bi-weekly." As for speed of the day, I find 3x works best for me, as it also gives me time to explore and do things other than 100% on my work.
    But now I have come to a point where I could use some advice. I have managed to make some money and am looking at getting my first piece of property. The property I desire must have land enough to place things like a barn, garage, house, silos, etc. It must be able to support crops and possibly animals. I found a great downloadable map, drove around, did work for others, made some money, but not well off, by any means. In fact, MOST of the properties available are beyond my financial means. I have 3 properties in mind...
    1. Parcel 34. This is the most expensive I can afford... A nice piece of property with enough land to raise cows, chickens or sheep (but not all three). It already has a small planted area, with corn ready to harvest and just enough room to create a 2nd, identical field. On the north, it borders a paved side road, from which I could try to create something of a driveway that would lead to my house (that I will need to build). On the south, it nearly borders a farmer's market! You could not get any closer to sell that corn! On the downside: The land is not big, by ay means, it's big enough to do what I desire; but not big enough to really expand all that much. Future purchase of nearby properties may prove to be more of a challenge than it's worth. The land sits near the left edge of the map and should I decide to grow anything not sold at the farmer's market, it's going to be a drive. I do really like this property. However, buying it now will take nearly all my money and I'll need to do contract work for another month or two to afford to buy the equipment needed to work the land. But, it may be worth it, as this property will provide everything I need.
    2. Parcel 20. This property is about 2/3 the price of property 1, but it is considerably smaller... about 2/3 the size. And, like property 1, it has a field (slightly bigger than 1's field) nearly ready to harvest. Instead of corn, it's cotton. The land borders a semi-main road, right next to a housing community and across the street from a grocery store. The main merchant hub is a short drive down that road. And unlike property 1, should I wish to expand, nearby property is fairly cheap. On the downside, with property 1, I could easily raise two different types of animals, should I so desire. But, on this one, we're pretty much will be limited to chickens or maybe sheep); as nearby future land options are 100% restricted to developed farmland, with no or extremely limited undeveloped land (well, buying the land to the north I could squeeze in chickens or sheep there too. It is a very good option, with a limited number of very good possibilities. It is cotton, so I could always rent what I need, for now and hope it brings in enough to buy a few of the things I will need. The nice thing is, I will no longer need to do contract work, unless I want to.
    3. Parcel 6. This property is one of the cheapest on the map. It sits next to a city water tower and located on the south side of the southern main road of the town, it's accessed from the dirt road, right next to the gas station. There is absolutely no room for any type of animal... this even includes bees! Well, unless I don't mind running over the bees with my tractor on a routine basis. On this property sits a small cotton field, separated into 6 tiny sections. There is no room for a house, barns, silos, garages, warehouses or anything substantial. HOWEVER... Right next to it is a big undeveloped lot (Parcel 7) providing far more space than property 1 could ever manage to do. Plus, attached to this undeveloped land - as part of the parcel - is a paved area (which is usable now), complete with a mechanic shop, auto-washer, fuel, weigh station and a bunch of other niceties. Should I buy this land in the future, I could do whatever I desired! More fields. Cows, sheep, pigs, chickens and even horses. But for now, that's just a hope for the future. Although I still would not have a proper place to live, I could easily afford to buy or rent everything I need to harvest the cotton and ready the field for the next planting. In the process I could also acquire some of the equipment I may need to develop a future purchase of parcel 7. TBH, I'm thinking this may be the way to go; as it gets me making my own profits now, it doesn't put me back in the poor house and I could, at least, park my house trailer there (Used a Mod for a towable house trailer).
    Option 1, 2 or 3. They all have their upsides and downsides. I really like option 1, as it's current layout works well with what I see in the future. But will take all my money to buy. Then again, what's another month of contract work, if I have the home I want to go to, after a hard day? Option 2 makes a lot of sense, right now, and can't be beat in terms of convenience. Plus, it will still leave enough money for some basic equipment. It will be tough to start, but I need to do little to no contract work! For the moment, option 3 sort of sucks, but MIGHT BE the wisest financially and could offer the best future, due to it border with parcel 7. As far as contract work is concerned, I'll never need to do it again, unless I get bored or we're in the off season.
    As you can all see, if you made it this far, I could use some advice... Please type in 1, 2 or 3. What would you do?
    Lastly, I discovered the tutorial uses a wheat/canola/grain type harvester. To anyone starting a new game on easy and thinking of doing something that is not some type of grain, that starting harvester they give you (in easy mode) will not help you in the slightest! Do like I did, look up a video on the crop you desire. I just did it for cotton... I'm glad I did too. I can sell it raw OR turn it into fabrics or clothing for a LOT more money! I NEVER thought I'd ever consider cotton... who knew?

    • @shaunkneece2866
      @shaunkneece2866 2 дня назад

      First off, cotton is a bad idea. The machinery is expensive and process slow. I only recommend doing cotton if you are well established or its the ONLY thing you do. And NEVER on a start from scratch playthrough.
      Second, you can't do everything all at once when starting from scratch. If you want everything all at once, do "New Farmer
      mode" You have to buy small parcels of land, build it up, then buy another, repeat. Eventually you will have enough space to do all the things you want to do. When starting from scratch, buildings like houses, sheds, silos are the last things you spend money on, only after you have plenty of land and equipment. Also if you don't own a lot of land/productions, you don't need more than 1 day months because you will run out of contracts and ways to make money long before the next month arrives. The passage of time is essential until you have a WELL established farm that requires many hours to cultivate, plant, fertilize, lime, seed, harvest the fields. Plus feed animals, and collect/transport products to sell or store.
      Having said all that, everyone should play the game however they choose and figure out what does and does NOT work for their playstyle. Have fun yaw!

    • @syrupgames
      @syrupgames  День назад

      As for the time, I've always found it easier to just leave it to 1 day=1 month, and then just change the speed to suit what I want to do. I mostly leave the speed on 3x, 5x, or 6x as I'm playing, but I don't hesitate to slow things down if I need some extra time that month, or speed things up if I'm done all my tasks for that month and just want to advance to the next growth state. Like if you need some time to learn your new machine, or just want to spend some time browsing through the store and other menus trying to plan things out, crank the speed right down to 0.5x for awhile. At that speed you can play for 48 real hours before one day passes in game.
      Turning crop destruction off is probably a good idea for a new player.
      Hard to say with the land, but one of the main things I always look at is the opportunity for expansion. No matter what starting plot you buy, you're going to want more land eventually, and you don't want to be driving all over the map to work your various fields, so having a good group of potential fields close together should be a high priority.
      Cotton is a tough crop to start with, I would recommend getting the basics down with the basic grain harvesting stuff first. Cotton can be lucrative, especially when you've got all your productions set up, but it can be pretty time consuming, and requires a large initial investment. That said, a big part of the fun of this game, for me anyway, is experimenting and trying different kinds of things, so at the end of the day play it however you like! 😉
