Wonderful! May my heart be filled with loving kindness. I love myself. May I be happy. May I be peaceful. May I be liberated. May all beings within this vicinity be happy. May they be peaceful. May they be liberated. May all beings in this home be happy. May they be peaceful. May they be liberated. May all beings in (your state / providence) be happy. May they be peaceful. May they be liberated. May all beings in (your country) be happy. May they be peaceful. May they be liberated. May all beings in (your continent) be happy. May they be peaceful. May they be liberated. May all beings on this planet be happy. May they be peaceful. May they be liberated. May all my children be happy. May they be peaceful. May they be liberated. May my parents be happy. May they be peaceful. May they be liberated. May my family and friends be happy. May they be peaceful. May they be liberated. May my enemies be happy. May they be peaceful. May they be liberated. If I have hurt anyone knowingly or unknowingly in thought, word, or deed, I ask for their forgiveness. If anyone has hurt me, knowingly or unknowingly hurt me in thought, word, or deed, I extend my forgiveness. May all beings everywhere, whether near or far, whether known to me or unknown to me, may they be happy. May they be peaceful. May they be liberated.
Just as relevant more than a decade later - I didn't even realise this video was so old! Very eloquent and powerful lecture. So very grateful 🙏🏽 Love from India 🩷
I cannot thank you enough for posting this. I honestly have to watch this everyday to keep myself in check. Eventually, it will stick. I am truly grateful for the posting of this video and the words of Dr. Miles Neale to help me on my own journey in this life....Thank you!
repetition is what we need, not listening to the negative, the positive, there is so much more of that than we even know, d depends where you choose to spend your time, listening to the things that can help you, and every other human being
Great speech; especially at the end. "Mediation alone doesn't change your life. Mediation along with understanding and practicing the Four Noble Truths will help change life." Thank you !
It does though. By sitting in dimple, Zazen. Zen Buddhist mefitation. Allowing mind to drop away. Helps at least while you do it. The teachings help too. But deep down we allready know lifes, ultimately, painfull, dissatisfaction, ect. The main thing is to sit. Medidate for at least 2 or 3 hours a day. Thats how i stay ok. But only just. As my lifes incredibly difficult. I have virtually nothing and nobody.. Exactly.
I sure love when someone who understands the real teachings steps up with strength, confidence, and isn't afraid to shake people up. Because the core teachings aren't about feel good imaginary escape meditations. It is the real bravery of tapping in to the core root of our pain, and the path to wake up from the dream and illusion we have created our whole life to be, which merely drives our every move unconsciously. It is taking radical accountability for the wars, death, and plague humanity has brought upon itself blindly over and over again and will continue to do until we pulverise each other and our planet into oblivion...unless we step up and take responsibility for our projections. if you like this guy then you would like Rodney smith. very similar vibe and real teachings that slap you to your core
Yeah, this is an incredible talk. The naysayers possibly are missing the point. I also don't see the arrogance that has been written about. I see passion. Thank you so much for the wise words and please post more lectures if you are able to.
I agree with you. This was an amazing speech. Do you know if his RUclips channel will become active again in the future or if he moved to a different channel ?
So if that's the case, then doesn't it means that we were already enlightened, or close to being enlighten when we were a kid? I mean, we act carelessly about how we want other people to look at us, we just want to have fun, want to do what we want, want to be ourselves, we don't care about acting up or wanting someone to think us as something that is admirable, we just make everything simple, when we were a kid. At least that's how I am when I was, now, I do want people to look at me as something I am not.
kids arent enlightened because they cant control their mental states as they are still classifying and experiencing them and comparing them. but there is a same primordial awareness that is similar between the mind of a young one and an enlightened one. mostly like when youre a kid youre just experiencing things all the time that are just forms that people name and your born into a simulation kind of deal. enlightened person has the ability to discern forms, names, mental states, etc, while retaining that similarity to child mind. it is that that spacious awareness of a child is broken down and tightened by ego and fear
+Leo Huynh That's interesting. But kids have temper tantrums and stuff like that. The Buddhist idea of enlightenment involves not being overwhelmed with emotion and not becoming furious or miserable. There are similarities but also differences between Buddhism and childhood. There's a phrase I really like, it's "Be childlike, but don't be childish."
Robert F Well, in other words, kids are the purest state(closer) that most people can ever reach Enlightenment. Unless of course they started to study and follow the 4 Noble Truths 'till the end, like them Shaolin monks.
Definitely, Kids are in the purest state compared to adults. But kids are emotionally volatile and immature, and Buddhism is about being mature and calm no matter what happens. That's the ideal of Buddhism anyway, I don't understand it fully, I just know a little. Buddhism seems to be trying to point a way to the best of both worlds, the purity of a child but the wisdom and strength of the sage. Like that quote of Jesus saying "Be innocent as doves, but as wise as serpents." It seems to be a common theme to find a balance of best of both world qualities.
What I don't like about Buddhism is that it ignores the causation (of outside factors) by failing to address it while placing one's suffering on the person only. It is like you feel screwed not because your supervisor screwed you under the nose of your management but because you feel it.

Personally, I didn't need any religious teaching to have the same analysis and reach the sane conclusion. I am sure the religion (Sunni Islam) of my upbringing helped me in some way to have that ability to cone to terns with life.
he missed out on an important condition which is personalizing the emotions as ourselves. it is due to personalizing things to be us or ours that creates the subjective self. there is a reason the buddha explained all 12 conditions and not just 3.
The. kind of thinking that suffering is created by yourself completely undermines the innocent victims of war, unjust economic systems in the world, the people subjugated by caste system for thousand of years, to name a few.
It is not necessary to accept the illogical and compassionless individialism of this take on Buddhism. Individualisation and psychologisation may suit neoliberal capitalism, but it is void of compassion for those suffering the distress it causes.
At the 8 minute mark of this video, Dr. Neale does what all Liberals do.......................gets political. His mention of "Fox News" completely turned me off from watching the rest of this video. He didn't mention CNN..................no, it had to be Fox News. This is supposed to be about the teachings of the Buddha...............not a Liberal "rant".

Teachings on the 4 Noble Truths are always priceless. Namaste
This is the best explanation of the 4 noble truths I’ve ever encountered. Thank You!
Definitely one of the greatest teachers of Buddhism in the west.
I'm so glad I found this.

What the Buddha taught
wanttoloveasitis I'm with you on that... he's really helped me to transform my life. I also really like Pema Chodron. Peace and love to you all.
the heart of the buddhas teaching by thich nhat hanh
Just listen
the four noble truths are about craving, what is he talking about?
Why the volume so low? I can hardly hear!

good is an understatement

I don't think you even watched the video
The Buddha believed that causation was at the very heart of reality.
citizenOfNowhere777 you have to study about Buddhism then you will clear that Buddhism is peach n true.
Buddha have nothing to do with outer world, You have to conquer your mind. And live your happy life.

There was a movie made by an Indian medical physician playing a guru for real in the movie as he wanted to prove that people do not need a guru.
he kinda comes off as rude.
...scat and politics?...thumbs down...
I get the feeling that he has the knowledge but is not implementing it. I may be wrong or may be judging him.
This is good but he didn't invent buddism. He's also arrogant.
he's not arrogant

Do you have a lecture on RUclips? Like to see if you are nervous while your giving your lecture. ??
he doesn't seem nervous at all to me
your previous perception has coloured your experience
He seems perfectly calm and composed
i want change miles.
