I'm another new subscriber here from Matt's channel. You guys are like two peas in a pod, helping each other out and having fun doing it, the way it's meant to be👍 Have a great weekend my friend.
I tried to get one of those John deere excivators started one time for a guy. I realized I was way over my head! Man look at them hydrolics! I'm glad guys like you show this. It's pretty cool!
Good work! I added aux hydraulics to a Deere 160c a few years ago - funny story was I knew it had aux installed when I bought it because all the lines, fittings, blocks, and diverter valve were right there in front of my eyes, but it turns out it had no pilot-side hydraulics or in-cab controls. Apparently sometimes Deere did that, depending on how the machine was ordered. Since the factory kit was NLA, I ended up with a kit from HKX for the full pilot-side and it came with everything needed and a good set of directions. I had some flashbacks to my own experience while watching yours.
Nice job on machining the adapters, C&C definitely has its advantages, as long as the right info gets programmed in and one doesn’t forget to set up properly, as if I never have done that very thing 😊. Nice job setting up the hydraulics sir, thanks for update on the thumb.
The only time mine hinders me is digging inside a trench box , the thumb hits the spreader bars and tries to lift the box up when you get deep down . It's not too difficult to remove it on mine so it more than makes up its worth
Great vid series Sam, glad you took the time to modify use the HAAS cnc etc. Love the sarcasm “surely you didn’t think this would all…. work” Thanks for taking the time to vid all this. Love the vids. Have a great day!
Watching you machine that part was cool my neighbor has a machine shop. I do side work there sometimes. He has a Hyundai mill that is a lot like yours and giant c.n.c. laythes too cool video. Never seen anyone pull trees up before Smart.
Can drive a tractor/trailer, welds, drives dozers and other heavy equipment, does vehicle wiring, works on lathes, CNC machining, works on hydraulics, and fixes engines. Seriously, WTH?!!! Sam can do just about everything and anything!
somehow thought it'd be easier to plumb in that aux line, knowing the machines are normally prepped for it. Lots of work for sure, but turned out great
Funny after all that precision machining you still need to “adjust” with an angle grinder. Awesome content on this channel, I like your easy going attitude and editing style also. You’ve really taken off in subscribers. 👍🏻👍🏻 Good on ya!
I have a 2010 120D that has about 9500hrd on it. Its an incredibly reliable excavator. Fortunately, it came wuth the aux hydraulic circuit already done from the factory. However, I am getting cylinder drift from a freshly rebuilt cylinder, being a thumb cylinder. Its so intermittent that it's hard to figure out exactly what it is. I think i may just need to flush and clean out the the hydraulic fluid in the whole machine. You guys did a great job. Hydraulics are a different beast when designing and implementing.
try a wide velcro strap to bring that hose closer to the other hoses without biting into each other. it will pull them closer, but spread the contact over a wide part, and each hose can slide within the strap so shouldn't chafe much.
I figured that deere would be really similar to my jd 290glc but they are totally differnt under the hood , looks like the same hydraulic tank and definitely the same breather / cover . The best flares i have ever made as i afmire them them i realize i forgot the rest of the pieces off the tube lol
Sam, I am new to your channel. Took notice from Matt's channel. Sir, you are one excellent mechanic. I know Matt is a full-time RUclipsr. What is your primary business? Appreciate your answer.
On the suction pump. Add some Y fittings on either side of the pump with a ball valve. Start pumping with the valve closed. Shut off the pump and open the valve and have it a become a siphon.
You need to try curl in the bucket and see if you can move the thumb that way you can move the object and reposition the angle of whatever you’re holding .
Where did you learn all this stuff/?? Were you a mechanic in a former life? After seeing some of the stuff in the background, I feel I should offer some of the extra space I have in my barn. Well, it isn't really a barn but a 2 car garage. I call it a barn because I park my B3200 Kubota in there. Also the commute would be a bit rigorous, as I live in Decatur, IL. Good luck with that upgrade. it's late and I'm goin to bed.
not familiar with this particular machine, but it may be stock. Seen several older machines from various brands (typically from the early 90s) that have armoured glass or metal grating to protect the glass. That was before they switched to the laminated hardened glass that's common now. Especially the armored glass ones were annoying to work with, because you couldn't see a damn thing through them, so the glass was pointless
@@thesteelrodent1796 he did say it was an older Haas. The one I dealt with was a smaller machine with dedicated fixtures that only cut aluminum. The ones on his machine look like someone cut them out on a water jet or plasma cutter so I thought they might be made in house after an incident
We bought this machine used and they were already on it. I do think they were homemade as I agree you can see plasma cutter marks on them. This machine came out of a Baldor motor plant in North Carolina I bought it in an auction.

This is one of the things I noticed, They are a great team, work well together!
Nice work. Having a thumb is probably one of the most important accessories that you can have on an excavator. Thanks for sharing.

Hands on practical episode. , wonderful saving stuff that's the way thanks for sharing, Matt sent me ,
Clever Boy Sam. Impressive.🔧👍🇬🇧
Sam you are very skillful including machine shop and welding you are the only diesel shop that got all the capability you guys got.
Once you use that thumb, you will wonder how you ever lived without one. I would not want to be without mine.
That’s the absolute truth. An excavator without a hydraulic thumb is like a eating soup with a fork.
The only time mine hinders me is digging inside a trench box , the thumb hits the spreader bars and tries to lift the box up when you get deep down . It's not too difficult to remove it on mine so it more than makes up its worth
I'm here too from Diesel Creek. Ya'll are great
You and Matt together are so much fun to watch . Just subscribed to your channel
I wouldlike to see a shop tour😃
i worked for a mack service dealer prior to peterbilt dealer and rebuilt and repaired many 864/865 macks awsome eng .
How cool is that its like your a giant hungry brontasaurus or t-rex only in the mechanical scene.you n matt get to play with all the cool machines!!
I'm officially blown away.........you sir, are a freak'n wizard of the mechanical world !...........👍
Just got done watching you and Matt head up to Brownsville
Those wierd fitttings are probably "Brittish standard pipe" (BSP) I have found those used very often on my 3 machines. Thats one hell of a trimmer!
Matt's channel got me here. I am a new subscriber. Great job
Glad you enjoyed it!
I’m amazed you were able to flare that stainless tube I’ve never had any luck
Great vid series Sam, glad you took the time to modify use the HAAS cnc etc. Love the sarcasm “surely you didn’t think this would all…. work” Thanks for taking the time to vid all this. Love the vids. Have a great day!
Thanks for the feedback! This was a rough project.
You hammered it!
You sir are a genius. Cheers from down under.
That was some big jobs to get the thumb setup!! You did well!! 😂 Thanks for sharing
Enjoyed this video bro I must check out the previous ones on this thumb. Safe travels. Ken.
Very impressive video. You are a smart hard working young man. Stay safe and keep up the good work.
Im new also from matts channel love the vids the duo,s are awesome to watch thanks .
Great video. I love that nothing deters you. Great attitude. Jack of all trades. Master of none. (New subscriber by way Diesel Creek)

Great job! Hind sight is always 20/20....LOL
Good work scrappy! Love your videos. The best thingis if you drain oil or hydrolic fluid if you have any water in system it drains out first..
Big John has all the safety. Good job on the video bud
Big John says safety first!
You have proven to me if you want or need a thumb buy a machine with it already installed from the factory.
😅 You and me both!
New subscriber and all I can say is man what a PITFA! Excellent video, liked it much!
Great project! I hope you bring us back in a few months for a peek! Be well, be safe!
If you get some fire hose you can protect your hoses that are rubbing from some of the abrasions that occur.
I enjoyed it very much to listen to your funny comments on all the stuff you are doing! Nice work and have fun with your thumb 👍
Thanks for watching!

Man he is a good publicist! Lol hi Jake!
I think this was just the excuse to use the cnc machine.Again.I wasn't fooled...😂😂 Great job as always 👍.Thank you
he was being sarcastic.
Why buy it if you can make it yourself? The feeling of accomplishment is 10k A better feeling. Well done kid and thanks for sharing 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Impressive Sam! Nice work
Especially all the NC equipment you got.
Sam some day you might consider doing a walk around of your shop/place. You seem to be more than a small time contractor!
Sam, very interesting video, and truly enjoyed it all. thank you for the video
Great video, the satisfaction is in making it work?
Looks kinda complicated to me + expensive to do even "dyi" congratulations you did it. 👍
Thanks! It was a long road to the finish line
Subscribed... Matt recommends it, so that's all I need to know... The content is great also, so that helps.
You sir are very impressive. Nice job
Thank you!
That's a beauty Clark.

Lol I know I kept picturing that meme with the guy from Minions and the posterboard
looks like you are definitely amusing trying to work on heavy machines
Keep your flaring tool oiled and it will last for years. Mine is 40 years old. Use for plumbing with copper tube as well.
I have always found, the more perfect the flare is, the better chance that I forgot the sleeve or nut. Or both.
You might regret the trouble you went through, but it did make for some really good content. And yes I'm another guy from Matt's channel
Thanks!
Samm, I really lie the look of the GRAY BOOM!!

Holy crap
I didn’t think all that was necessary to get 2 lines plumbed to a cylinder at the bucket!
Shows what I know!!!!
So how much battery did you use to remove the oil, one 5 amp ?
Yep one 5.0 battery did it
Good to See You Fella’s
Can you please make a video and tell us who you are and what you do?
Nice job programing the mill
BTW you not the first guy ever to forget to probe
🤣
They do make a tool for removing bungs, in the oil retail business is where you may find it.
You need to try curl in the bucket and see if you can move the thumb that way you can move the object and reposition the angle of whatever you’re holding .
Enjoy your video young man .
I wish the excavations the I hire over here would have a thumb on them it would made my work much easier.
Sam they do make a wrench for that, it's called a bunge wrench
CNC impressed From UK
Cheers to you.

Now need to talk to your buddy Matt about putting a thumb on his machine
Sweet!
Sweet.
you might want to add some chafe guard to that hydraulic hose...
nice job 👍👍
There must be a story behind the guards on the CNC windows

Count me in as one as well!!
SWEET = TOP JOB
just need a front blade addition next
👌🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Man, you could have made that block in 15 minutes on a Prototrak mill 😅
Nothing is ever easy to take apart 😂
Hi I have idea for a good video! See if you can visit a place that they built a excavators 😊
I would love to
They must have an endless money pit?😁
🇦🇺👍great video again
Would you do a video on your SuperDog?
😎😎🤝👌👍
"Stay in there girl "? Anything with a hose on it like that ain't a girl I want to be around.🍻
"That was easy." - not.
Nice job!
You could try to avoid hand held shooting to make the videos even more enjoyable to watch
wow
put a thumb on matts
That would be to easy
Yooooooo
