1.29 to 1.45 and 2.20 to 2.37 reminds me a part of a Nirvana's song called "Spank Thru" just next to the chorus when kurt sings: "I've been looking for Day Glo Always hearing the same old Sticky boredom with a book I can make it do things you wouldn't think it ever could" Take a look...
The great thing about youtube and related sites is that gems like this that people have had sitting around for years on VHS or whatever format can now be seen for the time time for die hard fans such as myself. Great stuff!
Or you're just witnessing a group who finally got to see Flipper and two-guitar version of Black Flag live a year before. U-Men were already doing records that were the ur-grunge sound.
this is too cool. Thank you for uploading it. Always interesting to see a band from the beginning. I got into the Melvins around the time of the Eggnog ep . It's weird seeing Buzz with short hair and about 60 pounds thinner.
IHAVENOREALFRIENDS They were from Aberdeen, WA, where it’s usually super cold and there’s a lot of logging companies up there. Flannels were just normal wear up there before grunge made it popular. They thought it was ridiculous that why they could buy at a local shop for a couple of bucks was now being sold in malls for tons more! 😂
no, i completely agree, he's one the best drummers i've ever heard, and i've never heard anyone else play like him. And i wouldn't expect him to play back then like he does now. Either way hes great, and yea, this song fucking rules.
GREAT FIND!! Ever wonder where the Seattle grunge sound was made? RIGHT THERE, IN THEIR HANDS! (of course they were influenced by BlackFlag's "My War" , heavy metal, Hendrix, marijuana, and the NW climate...)Again GREAT FIND!
Thanks for the tip, grovelhog. I gather they've been around forever coz I know they were a big influence on Nirvana, another band I admire. It's good to know it's never too late to get into great bands however long they've been around.
Again, thanks for the recommendations, grovelhog. I've ordered 'Houdini' and 'Mangled Demo's' off Amazon - I can hardly wait for them to arrive! I've also been doing a bit of reading up on them and it seems that their music doesn't conform to one particular genre and some of their albums are quite experimental. I like the slow hard and heavy sound of tracks like 'Lizzy' and the more punky 'Matt-Alec' so I'm looking forward to seeing what else they do and how I'll like it...
I really like this song, but I don't know much about the Melvins so can anyone help? I want to know what the song's called and if it's available anywhere...
hey@bpl1980 are you aware that the melvins met nirvana to dave grohl, that means that without the help[ of the melvins nirvana wouldnt even exist but you do have a point
as a matter of fact only one of them isn't playing anymore ( bless him ) en the reason the Melvins are still playing is as you say it because they aren't mainstream enough and otherwise they wouldn't have any money , DON'T get me wrong I really like the Melvins but that's just the way it is ( and also because they like it )
This was ahead of its time.
Skyrilla totally agree.
Black Flag was doing the same stuff around the same time as well.
@@metalheadgamer80 not with that amount of distortion
@@camilafreire7072 Listen to any black flag song on my war, lots of distortion
Buzz Osbourne is a trail blazer of grunge
1984? This is awesome.
love low tuned guitars with killer riffs.
they were trail blazers in heavy alternative rock/metal, and KMFDM were trail blazers in industrial far ahead of their time...
I can't believe buzz actually sounded like that even when he was like 18, wtf? what hope is there for the rest of us

So, this is where Nirvana from!
This Nirvanaland. Come here!!! We love you all!😊
This song is called Matt-Alec and is on the Melvins' 'Mangled Demos From 1983' cd.
1.29 to 1.45 and 2.20 to 2.37 reminds me a part of a Nirvana's song called "Spank Thru" just next to the chorus when kurt sings: "I've been looking for Day Glo

Clearly the best part. Probably the best part about the either internet.
If you find this painful, it is because it is. You are witnessing the birth of Grunge.
Nirvana Bleach 5 years later was trying to be like this
Or you're just witnessing a group who finally got to see Flipper and two-guitar version of Black Flag live a year before. U-Men were already doing records that were the ur-grunge sound.
I love melvins but bleach is much better 😂
@@adnsharpnblack2986 it's ok to be wrong, friend.
The video says 88, so that's a lie, nirvana is nirvana and melvins are melvins.
@@rafaelcabralwilliams the video is from 1984.
Crover's been a burnout his whole life. What a vibe!
grunge uncles.... Matt-Alec Rules!!! Melvins 10Q so much
This song is awesome. Truly one of the first grunge songs.

this is too cool. Thank you for uploading it. Always interesting to see a band from the beginning. I got into the Melvins around the time of the Eggnog ep . It's weird seeing Buzz with short hair and about 60 pounds thinner.
Matt Lukin is one of my favorite bass players.
Wow. I’ve never seen this. Buzzo really had it from the get-go.
Guitarist already wearing a flannel shirt. XD

People wore them long before the 90s. lol
So it's true, Melvins were cool right from the beginning.
Absolute facts.
no, i completely agree, he's one the best drummers i've ever heard, and i've never heard anyone else play like him.
And i wouldn't expect him to play back then like he does now.

WOW! Love it! Melvins, amazing!
haha Buzz has changed over the years. Great material
King Buzzo seems closer to Prince Buzzo here (hence he hasn't obtained his hairy crown of awesomeness) Wow, they all look so young!
Lukin played in every Seattle band, i'm pretty sure he played w/ Love Battery before Finn did.
Holy fuck I fucking love you Melvins
incredible find. thanks to the uploader.
What happened to the full show? I know it used to be on RUclips.
there's a full version??????
Thanks for the tip, grovelhog. I gather they've been around forever coz I know they were a big influence on Nirvana, another band I admire. It's good to know it's never too late to get into great bands however long they've been around.

@PattyKakesOfSpades No, It's on Mangled Demos from 1983 - enjoy it.
Sooooooooooooo good.

King Buzzo is the ONLY founding member left in the group. Dale joined a little after the group formed. This is great stuff!!
This is so awesome I can barely take it!!! Lip Syncin' Buzzo and a Po faced Crover
Haha, look at Dale before he got his bowl cut in high school. XD
I think he was in 10th grade when he had that perm

I really like this song, but I don't know much about the Melvins so can anyone help? I want to know what the song's called and if it's available anywhere...
King Buzzo looks like the dude from Tears For Fears in this video. I love The Melvins. good clip.
amazing relic
Sooooooooo cool.
What's the name of the song?
Thank You very much :)
2016, this comes out on facebook "hey check out these guys"..".I did..saw it a hundred times"...career over
hicks727 I'm not sure.i get the "career over" part.
WHY CAN'T I FIND THIS SONG ANYWHERE!!! I get to see them play through Lysol and eggnog at SlIMS in SF.
Buzz was born in 1964, so he must've been 19-20 when this was filmed...no wonder he looks so young.
His face like Billy Joe Armstrong 😂
1964 YEAR OF THE DRAGON
thank god for this.
can you imagine what things like this really
did to set the course of rock music.
Where would we be without the melvins?
Matt-Alec is the song. How could anyone dislike this?
I love his little jew fro
thanks
oh my god, how young they are!!
;-))
You can’t be more underground than this !
ruclips.net/video/UhecfKyKxfU/видео.html - maybe? (late 70's, really early eighties. wathc the bass player right through to the end. legend)

hey@bpl1980 are you aware that the melvins met nirvana to dave grohl, that means that without the help[ of the melvins nirvana wouldnt even exist but you do have a point
@Rastadruman
you are aware that Nirvana was around before Dave, right?
@dogfart1313 i think the video is out of sync. the original track sounds different than this so i don't think it's lipsynced
Oh my God. I thought that grunge appeared later...but 1984??
as a matter of fact only one of them isn't playing anymore ( bless him ) en the reason the Melvins are still playing is as you say it because they aren't mainstream enough and otherwise they wouldn't have any money , DON'T get me wrong I really like the Melvins but that's just the way it is ( and also because they like it )
their bass player looks like. 6 years old. buzz's face while he plays never changed, he pulls some awesome facial expressions :P.
THESE GUYS RULE.
for this particular video its kinda funny that buzzo doesnt bang his head so epically like he always does =)
ECXELLLENTE!!!!!
that's not dale it's thier first drummer. i cannot remember his name though. he's on the new cd mangled demos 1983 if you wanna hear him.

They need to get Mangled demos on itunes.
From the Mangled demos btw

By the way is that Dillard or Peters playing Drums? Pretty sure it isn't Crover.

Dood! I fucking saw them play this SAME SONG like a month ago in portland! Haha it was so fantastic. What is the name of this song??
good ol Hardcore days..get the mangled demos from 83 cd...those are f'n sick..kinda like early Die Kreuzen meets articles of faith...so sick!
super under cool man
Mangled Demos from 83 is the album it might be on Gluey Porch Treatments as well. I'm not sure
Billy from Green Day sure doesn’t age
this video is off the salad of a thousand delights as well. the melvins created rock.
Beastyyyy
hey what is the name of this song? im fairly new to the melvins
song is 'matt-alec' from the mangled demos
They're both on "My War". Rollins was the vocalist and Ginn was the guitarist. Ginn wrote all of Black Flag's music, and probably 95% of the lyrics.
Chuck Dukowski wrote the song my war 😉
heavy as hell even then! not that i'm surprised
Yeah, and Dale looks like the Drummer from Mystery in that movie about kiss
Melvins freaking rule.
Fuck they are so young!
