- The 2020 Yamaha R1 is here and it's time to see just how fast it is. Squaring up today is my buddy's 2009 R1, the same year R1 that I used to have. Can it still hang with the new kid on the block? The 2020 R1 is bone stock, no mods with 150 miles on the clock while the 2009 R1 has exhaust, ECU flash, airbox mod and intake. Let's see just how fast they go!

these 2015+ with a slip on and tune alone are monsters and will destroy the pre 2015s...makes me want to sell my 09 but i hate the look of the newer r1s

Rev Matching while Downshifting it’ll preserve your engine and clutch and also keep that back wheel from locking up on you!

You need a flash, sprint filter and a full exhaust system. That older r1 shouldn't be running from the new one .
Interesting comparo. I had the red and white 09R1 before I blew a gearbox bearing, and I still believe it has the best mid range grunt out of any 4 cyl superbike even by today's standards. The midrange on mine was unbelievable, and you can clearly see that advantage in this vid. Nice work brother.

R1 BIG Bang has an engine directly derived from MotoGP. It is a perfect engine, it goes faster than the R1 2020. I also did several tests, the BIG Bang goes faster.

I love my 09 R1, but the 2015+ definitely has the legs on it. Also the 07-08 is faster in my experience, hell I'm not sure if the 2015+ is faster than the 08.

The 2009 ~2014 was slower then the 2007/2008 in the top end but still, i loved that one just for the CP sound.
I had the RN19 but it got stillen. My RN221 got written off so i switched to something a little more sophisticated. The K46 is a beast. I would never need more. All good bikes though (Y)

My 2011 ran awesome. But they def lack top end. Lol. I bet it’s faster stock. Than the stock s1000rr. I can’t wait to see how it runs with a pipe and flash.
Definitely need the full Austin Racing exhaust on that new R1. If you haven’t seen there products I highly recommend their exhaust. Ran it on my 09 R1 and honestly won’t run anything else on my future bikes.

I have the same 09 original raven with a full akra system incl headers and decat an ecu flash plus airbox and -1 front and is def much faster vs the stock 2020 ive raced a few one had a slip on and -1 front other bone stock wasnt even a competition felt i was against a 750....yet on the other hand i have an original 06 raven also with same mods as the 09 plus a 520 chain conversion and is def faster than all of em:p
on a side note ive noticed me along with the dudes who have the 2020 and raced em that 09 launches far better than the 2020 which is weird

As a fellow 2020 S1000RR owner, I gotta ask how many times you grind gears from lazy clutching do you experience now? The BMW autoshifter taught me some pretty bad habits haha. Transitioning to conventional bikes is tough.
That 09 HOLDIN IT DOWN!! Who did he go with on the ECU tune? I need to get mine done, but haven't heard many great things about who flashed your old R1 (SBU)
Not sure, but I use Bauce Racing for all my Yamahas.
I got mine done by SBU a few years ago. Got rid of the harsh engine braking, turns fans on sooner etc. Opened the bike up IMO. They also had already activated quickshifting for me so when I got my qs unit, I didn't need a reflash.

Your bike is roughly 188-190whp after all of the same mods. Not to mention it takes about 12-14hp to push those mirrors through the wind friction at those speeds. It will destroy him.

I was expecting the new gen to be significantly faster. It was not.
@@motonosity still consider that is box stock. Do some mods on it, then you will see some significant differences. The other bike has all the godies
2020 wont be faster because they needed to cut down on emissions the 2019 one is best horse power of the decade
@@thenr69 2020 makes the same peak power as the 2019 model despite being more restricted to comply with Euro 5 emissions whereas the 2019 model is Euro 4... You do realise that this will allow for greater power prospects when decatting and tuning the engine when compared to the 2019 model?

@Laith Not just a ticket! For doing these types of speed cops won't give you a ticket but you'll get arrested on the spot and they'll take your license and the bike temporally and a citation which can end up with jail time or community service or your driving license. So it's very serious.
