Great cover for a very technically challenging song. I saw an interview with Rush recently where they said at the time, they felt like they had written something just a little beyond their abilities. Rush prefers to record a song once all the way through in the studio; they had to break La Villa into three pieces for the recoding. Well done!
agreed, you definitely deserve more views! I always watch this vid and it blows my mind everytime. Ridiculously hard song is right. Keep it up dude! btw I love the way your hats dance in the song. lol
Hey man, excellent video! I'm a drummer and my band has been working on La Villa for a few months now on and off as our one cover song. You really really nailed it. I've referenced this video several times!!
Thanks man! You should see my Rush tribute band some time! We do this plus a whole lot more! I really need to re-record all of these with the new kit and real mics...
absolutely ill check it out. I also love your incubus covers. big fan of both jose's and neils drum styles. also my two best friends are huge fans of rush and incubus so ill be sure to have them check out your channel. you deserve more views
@specialanthony i love how you use traditional grip, it really shows that you know how to rock as a drummer, and plus, to me, shows that you got some skills cause i cant do traditional for crap. 5 stars and subbed!
Phenomenal man. You even threw a bit of your own nuance in there. With Neil's level of proficiency...tall order. That's highly difficult, and even moreso to pull off. You are a technician sir. Looking forward to seeing more stuff from you.
I made an account just to subscribe to you. Please, keep up the good work. It's inspiring to see percussionists like you absolutely tearing it up to the music I know and love (and listen to every day!).
very well played!!, and the time keeping is almost flawless. I´ve also played this song for a few years and it s been quite a challenge, specially with the rithyms during the solo. How about uploading a vid playing 6:00 by Dream theater, or acid rain by liquid tension?. Saludos, amigo!! Larga vida a los bateros!!
ive played for 6-7 years for now and this song- its a killer. i can play the part with the hi-hat in the beginning and everything up to the end of the first solo but it just gets too hard after that- either that or i haven't figured how to play a specific part
Thanks- not the stand but the thick pad under the carpet it's on- drives me nuts! But it's better than being out in a garage in 110deg heat and no soundproofing!
The drumming was awesome, but I'm also trippin' on how you stretched your arms using the sticks starting at :27...I DO THE SAME THING! I can't remember where I learned that from though, I've been doing that for 25 years. Anyway great job!
Outstanding! I don't play drums, but I know every note of this song, and you nailed it. One question, how long would you say it took you to learn this till you felt like you had it right? Just curious. Thanks!
Well I bought the kit in 94ish for about $1500 for the shells and misc hardware. After building it up over the years, all included would probably be in the 3-4K range
Ha! That bugs the CRAP out of me! The drums are in my master closet, and the carpeting has a pretty thick pad under it so the hats aren't solid at all when there's alot of movement. Thanks everyone for the comments!
funny how on related videos you see this "Caitilin paramore drum cover" thingy and it has 200k hits, because there's a blode girl in the picture... and your video, which is pure awesomeness, didn't hit the 10k yet, even being awesome D;
I only have 2 criticisms: One - You should've played that part on the ride at 5:20 on the bell, it makes it so much more clear and the sound is simply amazing. Two - During the beginning of the breakdown section of the song before the guitar solo, at 3:36, I'd suggest not hitting the snare so hard, it really drowns out the guitar. Otherwise, because you not only played this song near perfect aside from some little bugs, this is a spectacular cover; and you did it with traditional! Well done:)
@skatetodate515 its a classic style, many jazz drummers play that way, Neil Peart actually even plays like this sometimes he learned it to improve his overall technique.
I've known this song for years, I'd say it probably took a good 2-3months listening and practicing to it before I felt I had it right. Xanadu- sure! As long as it's under 10mins (stupid youtube rules- they also wouldn't allow my Passage to Bangkok video).

this is one hell of a song and one of the hardest drum covers i've ever seen.
good work
PERFECT man! I love rush and this is one of their bests!

Awesome job Anthony! I love seeing drummers tackle peart. I always wanted to be a drummer and seeing things like this amazes me. Great job
its really interesting to see this done in a classic grip. Really well done :)

Yep you are the man for tackling any rush song let alone la villa strangiato
Thanks man! You should see my Rush tribute band some time! We do this plus a whole lot more!

my brother you are a good drummer and deserve to buy a heavy duty high hat stand!
@specialanthony i love how you use traditional grip, it really shows that you know how to rock as a drummer, and plus, to me, shows that you got some skills cause i cant do traditional for crap. 5 stars and subbed!

Wow, you are an AMAZING drummer :o
This is what years of practice and dedication looks like :)
Unreal dude!
great job Anthony, no doubt u have allot of time invested in this song.was worth it! A pleasure to watch you cover it.
I just recently started drumming and Neil Peart is one of my all time favorite drummers. Let me just say, marvelous job.
There are still 5 f... people who disliked this amazing piece of work! Man, this is one of the best drum covers of Rush! Just amazing ... Keep pushing
Tightest youtube cover I've seen of the Villa, cramping forearms or not!
I can't believe 4 people had the nerve to click dislike..this cover amazed me man! And to those four people...lets see your cover.
That's some bad ass drum kit...you almost nailed it dude!!! Great job!!!
You deserve a lot more views. Amazing cover of a ridiculously hard song.
Very good! Im quite impressed with your skill and accuracy. I enjoyed your video quite a bit. You now my favorite "drum cover guy".
Very entertaining. Touch song to play, but you make it look easy. Great job!
I made an account just to subscribe to you. Please, keep up the good work. It's inspiring to see percussionists like you absolutely tearing it up to the music I know and love (and listen to every day!).
Great work ! Great song to play ! Cool !!!

it was a pleasure to watch you play!
love that classic grip. nice cover
Great job, this song is tough enough, but you make it look easy. I know that came from years of playing and practice. Well done!!!
Matched grip, Cross stick. It's all good. Your videos are always impressive.
This guy plays like this is just another day of the week

very well played!!, and the time keeping is almost flawless. I´ve also played this song for a few years and it s been quite a challenge, specially with the rithyms during the solo. How about uploading a vid playing 6:00 by Dream theater, or acid rain by liquid tension?.
Saludos, amigo!! Larga vida a los bateros!!
Nice job... Especially for traditional grip!
Well done! This is a really tough song to play...
I kept waiting for your high-hat to drop!
@drums4woodstock yeah, my friends think that songs with awesome double bass fills and breakdowns are the best, i gladly support you =]
Anthony Eaton Destroys Drums!!!!! Fabulous!
ive played for 6-7 years for now and this song- its a killer. i can play the part with the hi-hat in the beginning and everything up to the end of the first solo but it just gets too hard after that- either that or i haven't figured how to play a specific part
dude that one fill at 8:35 was so sickkk
Thanks- not the stand but the thick pad under the carpet it's on- drives me nuts! But it's better than being out in a garage in 110deg heat and no soundproofing!
Excellent !
very nice job!
The drumming was awesome, but I'm also trippin' on how you stretched your arms using the sticks starting at :27...I DO THE SAME THING! I can't remember where I learned that from though, I've been doing that for 25 years. Anyway great job!
Thanks (and thanks everyone else)! I currently am not in a band but am looking!
Maestro!
Outstanding! I don't play drums, but I know every note of this song, and you nailed it. One question, how long would you say it took you to learn this till you felt like you had it right? Just curious. Thanks!
One day I'd love to do that, but I'd also want a better space to put them in too.
great man. good job indeed.
I'm proud to call you my son, wait... What? Great job.
Heh, there's some thick padding under the carpet! That along with the two legged high hat makes for alot of movement
Well I bought the kit in 94ish for about $1500 for the shells and misc hardware. After building it up over the years, all included would probably be in the 3-4K range
2:00 the hi hat is dancing to the song! the power of rush
haha damn well congradulations, youve conquered the greatest drum song ever written and did it all in one, what are you gonna do now?
The best part is when he looks at his watch at the 7:13 mark. Very nice!
Awesome!
You are amazing.
Thanks! I agree- spread the word!
That Hi-hat's having a ball!
Nice, playing side stick. That's old-school. I can play that way, but I broke my left hand in high school. I'm all overhand now
so i thought id try it later but im gonna cut out some certain tricks. a long time rush fan too so im gonna try hard
WOW!!! Nice!!!!
Congratulations for your drumming man. Right on point. But... WHY THE HELL DO YOU CHECK WHAT TIME IS IT IN 7:12 !!?? That was hilarious !
Ha! That bugs the CRAP out of me! The drums are in my master closet, and the carpeting has a pretty thick pad under it so the hats aren't solid at all when there's alot of movement.
Thanks everyone for the comments!
I've practiced this song nearly every day for three months

I've known this song for years, I'd say it probably took a good 2-3months listening and practicing to it before I felt I had it right.
Xanadu- sure! As long as it's under 10mins (stupid youtube rules- they also wouldn't allow my Passage to Bangkok video).
