  • Patron Video Request! This is by far the Number 1 requested topic :) We replace our old B&G system with a new Maretron NMEA 2000 system. Capt. Breeyawn finds a way to wire up the old autopilot, GPS, AIS and Radar to a wireless system so now everything works wireless on a Windows 10 tablet. SWEET AS MATE!!!

this is one of the things that set SV Delos apart from most of the sailing vlogs...bikinis and artsy montage shots are nice but i dig the tech part as well

One of my favorite "background" vids. This is the kind of stuff I'd spend too much time (and money) on if I had my own boat. Outfitting a boat with all that new tech, and then taking it out on the water, and having everything work well. Sounds so satisfying.

Exactly my thoughts... What a great vid! And certainly not an easy task to complete. It required some brainpower to do, and it was done well...I love this stuff!!!

More into simplicity myself. I find that fewer things break if there are fewer things that CAN break. If they aren't there, they can't go wrong. So I live without AC and a generator and the full suite of instruments. They broke, and I chose to go without so I wouldn't have to deal with them the next time they inevitably break.

I really like the fact that you're combining and optimizing old school tech with the new tech in an extremely ingenious way to fulfill your needs. Really nice! I appreciate these kinds of videos with my scripting background and mechanics know how. This stuff makes sense to me and I respect the effort and energy that was put into making this video and explaining the complexities of making different systems speak to each other in a concrete and understandable manner. Clearly Brian is a well rounded individual. I love this type of shit!!!

Dudes and Dudette, I have been wanting to see Delos upgrade videos for a long time, you guys got so many new things after the first stay in cape town. I am sooo stoked on this side episode, you did such a great job! with diagrams and in depth explanation. The normal content you put out is epic and I love it, but for us mechanical thinkers, content like this is gold! Thank you for all your content but especially thank you for throwing this type of content in from time to time. I would love to see more videos like this in the side episode format more often. Thanks again guys.

You are so even keel! I’m impressed with your professional cool personality. I’m 53 man who has been a Mechanical Electrical Plumbing Contractor for about 25 years. I had 1.2 million took from me from a nasty Divorce like so many others I know so I’m looking for a different lifestyle going forward. Your channel has inspired me as it has so many others. You and your crews natural abilities and willingness to be spontaneous has an infectious influence for those watching your channel. Also your relationship with your brother is very cool and Mr Brady definitely complements his older brother that’s no doubt his mentor. I am happy for your and your new Nugget family so Congrats. I would like to one day immolate your living on a sailboat as I’ve always loved the water and have over 150 dives. Good job my man! Also the beautiful women around the world ohhlala! You have a great and loving family and crew! I hope that you know you are doing good and inspiring many!
    Respect Captain Brian!

You guys just made a video of everything I like...wiring, networking, legacy networking, bridging that gap, beer, cable management, tearing a boat apart and putting it back together and collecting as much data as possible and then watching it run down the wire. Truly spectacular video.

Cool and informative video Breeyawn! I am in the process of fitting out all of the nav gear in the boat at the moment. I have gone with all Ray Marine equipment including wind, radar, autopilot, 7" hybrid touch screen in the cockpit, 9" touch only at the nav station, VHF with AIS, Depth, speed, temp all using wireless tech, so only supplying power to each, no data cables (minimal). The system will also have the ability to use tablets as you have.
I am really looking forward to getting the chance to use it all this summer after we get to splash. It has been a 27 year build, started by my late Father and coming up 2 years of further work by the family to finish.
    Cheers.

I'm a software engineer an I dabble with robot projects occasionally. Last summer I got a 1975 sailboat and the first thing I did was pull find all the old manuals and get everything working agin. Then I upgraded the battery system. I also encountered all the single wire communications of the old system. What a mess! This was great to see you geek out and show everyone why you deserve your boat and all your great adventures on tropical paradises. Now I just need to learn to scuba dive and get another boat!

Thanks for the video! I just finished installing a Ray Marine display and triducer (speed log, depth, and sea temp all in one unit) and need to run some cables. I couldn't believe how simple installing it was, the old Horizon equipment, like yours, was individual cables and spade connectors and power runs and just a mess.
I wish I had read yours first, I paid a yard to haul the boat out and replace the sensor. It was only after they did it that I discovered they just reused the one that was in the boat. Not their fault, I asked them to do it, but it cost me a few bucks I didn't need to spend.
I've got some similar projects, like replacing the wind vane, and appreciate your taking the time to go into so much detail. I'm not as intimidated now about running cable down the mast now that I know I can take the end off.
Very helpful, thanks again for sharing.

Watched this when you posted 7 months ago and see the part that converts those baud rates. Can't see any other way that makes more sense for instrumentation on a sailboat. The engineers at these product manufacturers have missed the boat and are on a sinking dingy. It is funny to hear low baud rates of 4800. WHen I got into the computer business in 1978 with the apples without floppy disks, the modems were ripping at 300 bps with huge problems when we tried 1200. So cool to get that twisted pair backbone cable to keep the speed up despite humidity and rf interference. Great job and superb documenting what you did. Love the dazed look on alot of faces on the boat. Karyn kept up pretty well. Love the humor and I am sure you are happy not to do that all the time but you had to have a neat project to work on. I comment months ago and hope you get consulting jobs from boat owners that want this type of information. Go Delos!

This is one of the best videos you have posted. Gives a overview of how to set up an entire yacht electronics system. I really like the level of detail that you shared. Even more detail would be appreciated! Seriously, teach us how to fix everything as you go to put this dream within reach of the rest of us. I think you should make a seperate series of technical videos for every time you fix something. For example, when air conditioner water pump broke, you said it was full of water but didnt explain the fix. Show us this stuff! We really do find it interesting! You could title such videos "tech videos" to warn the viewers who just want to watch you guys party...

Watching the whole video makes me glad that when I outfitted my boat I chose the newest NMEA2k standard and didnt have to work about having to work with the older standards.. Lots of works great job and looks good. It will serve you well. Working on a new boat now and like the capability of having large screens for chartplotting ie 26", very cool stuff.

What a great vid! Having somewhat of an Avionics background, it's fun to see the guts of the boat. Thanks for putting this out there.

Been waiting for this video, I noticed the instrument switch over a number of videos ago and thought I missed an episode. Good job!

I have been watching all the sailboat videos possible in anticipation of getting my own boat and I can definitely see how some boat manufacturers really planned for serviceability and access while other manufacturers made it next to impossible to run a single extra wire. Amel seems to have really cared about the owner's ability to service and repair their boats.

I know it’s old news now but I loved it! Thanks for posting. I suspect I’ll be searching everywhere for this one in the future on my boat. Thanks again. Sk in the UK.

Awesome! I though it was good when I linked my Chartplotter to my VHF over the NMEA 2000 bus, but this is a different level! Great work, great video. Thanks for sharing.

Good job!!! Chasing wiring on a boat and actually having everything work is a good thing. Utility knife is quick, initially painless and effective. Blood, sweat and tears boat projects....building lasting memories on Delos. Live, laugh, love what you do each day. Fair winds and following seas. :-)
