It's very easy for a cambridge student to become popular and earn praises even if he makes mistakes. But it is difficult for traditional scholars to have their voices heard no matter how scholarly and truthful they are. The fault is not with them, but with the modern Hindu society. Despite having respect for Hinduism and Sanskrit, most Hindus don't have even a slight touch with traditional scholars. They ignore all the rigorous training and sound education that has been there since thousands of years. Ask them why they're seeking validation from a western university, that too from a student who is not half as great as the average Vaiyakarana that we see in Shastrarthas. Instead of realising their faults, some will say "you want to make everything rigid like the Abrahamics. Dharma accepts research and innovation, but you traditional scholars are jealous". If research is done appropriately, results are arrived at and are announced properly, we would have no problem. Our problem with this student is that while his attempt might have been genuine, he's agreeing to be marketed as a person who has solved a 2500 puzzle, when in reality: 1. There was no puzzle to begin with. 2. Traditional scholars didn't fail at anything. In fact it's well known that in Vyakarana most rules have exceptional cases of non-applicability. 3. The claim of optimization by improving the accuracy of result by interpreting the verse differently is to be rejected for more than one reason - the dataset is insufficient to contest with traditional Paninians, and the nee interpretation reduces the Vyapti of the original rule, thereby causing multiple new problems in the name of solving one. In this age of fake news, they don't have the time or interest to go after some media hype unless it has some serious implication to scholarship. Please do your research. The source of hype was nothing other than "University of Cambridge" and therefore the student/professor/communication manager/University has to bear the responsibility for this. Media just multiplied it and Scholar went along with it giving interviews. Larger the claim, one should expect that crazier will be the Media hype. I will just give one example. This is a verbatim quote appearing on the University website promoted by none other than Dr Tom Almeroth-Williams, the communication manager - "A grammatical problem which has defeated Sanskrit scholars since the 5th Century BC has finally been solved by an Indian PhD student at the University of Cambridge." . This is a tall claim. Is this an opinion or a statement of truth ? Where is the evidence for this ? There was no prior research citations to validate this anywhere in this thesis. Therefore the response to this can't come out of the peer review of the thesis. This is a hype promoted in the public domain by the university and a response has to be sought in the public domain. I can quote many other ridiculous claims seeded in the public domain by the University, but you get the point.
I would expect that there might have been a thesis examination committee that would have evaluated and approved? Usually, the candidate has to defend the thesis in the committee as well?
But the funny thing is it is Cambridge. British Universities approving Samskṛta is kinda off a joke. British Universities like Cambridge and Oxford hail Max Muller who did not even know basics of Samskṛta and gave horrible interpretation of the Védas. They are the last person who should be evaluating. You can see that he wantedly went to Cambridge and wants Western approval. Because in Bhārata, the Samskṛta Thesis paper cannot be in English, a Samskṛta student writing Thesis in English is considered unscholarly in Bhārata. It is easy to get PhD in Samskṛta in Western Universities but not in Bhārata. We value content and proof more.
@@rudraveda Well the credibility of Cambridge and Oxford on Samskṛta is truly not very good. But we cannot stop them for doing what they do. Instead we should focus on encouraging our own schools, colleges and universities to publish thesis papers in Samskṛta. Then we would not need approval from the west. Until that happens you are encouraged to publish your own thesis with line by line rebuttal of his thesis papers instead of throwing his findings without analysis. Nityananda ji correctly mentioned that understanding the purva-paksha is the basis of any civilized argumentation.
@@singhshomegym You are quoting one line of Śrī Nityānanda Mahōdaya. The Samskṛta Universities in Bhārata are thousand times better than Cambridge or Oxford. He is the one who deliberately went to the west and gives absurd theories with giving no respect to the actual scholars. The fact that he disregards the Védic Sage Kātyāyana shows this clearly. The Sutra 1.4.2 sas never a problem he made it out to be. Idk what nonsense he spews by saying Traditional view cannot solve so many problems. Only a person who have no knowledge of the Aṣṭādhyāyī completely can say this. I will never encourage people who are so egoistic that they think they are better than Ṛṣi Patañjali and Mahāṛṣi Kātyāyana.

The issue I have is that the thesis is trying to say there is this problem and I’ve solved it. There is no problem in traditional vyakarana traditions. It’s a thousands and thousands of years old tradition. If there was a problem would traditional scholars not point it out? He may have figured out a parallel and unexplored connection of derivation of words but saying that there was a problem is grossly wrong. Moreover he seems to have this messiah complex where he is saying he has solved some issue which had plagued scholars for thousands of years. Well NOT!! And every news outlet is making their breaking news stories out to be like “student solves thousands of year old riddle “, allowing him to further this saviour complex (clearly foreign money doing the talking 😏), when there wasn’t a problem to begin with. Basically his thesis is all about trying to say that “a plane is a flawed boat, and therefore I’ve solved a way of crossing the ocean by sailing instead of flying “.

with our existing knowledge of Sanskrit in the past 100-200 years or whatever BS westerners have fed us, we have mostly only reused Sanskrit words that already exist. Mr. Rajpopat's work should allow us to create entirely NEW Sanskrit words and poetry. that is the only significance of this discovery. all the hype around "traditional" hindus crying about this discovery is jealousy that they didn't discover it first. it is such a simple discovery. Mr. Rajpopat says the Sanskrit composer has to decide when to use the "right-side rule vs left-side rule" rather than the "older rule vs newer rule". the western academics have been using the latter all this time. i wouldnt be surprised if the early western linguists actually figured this out but purposely created an incorrect definition to stunt Hindus from creating new Sanskrit.
Who has certified his so-called discovery?!? Comes across as a half-baked fake attempt of self-glorification. He should have an open debate with Indian Sanskrit scholars on this subject and get it ratified. Shubham.

Can you please explain origin and meaning of the word चिंतामणि
listening to your views is always a pleasure.
I would expect that there might have been a thesis examination committee that would have evaluated and approved? Usually, the candidate has to defend the thesis in the committee as well?
yes, he defended and they approved.
@@rudraveda His claim in his thesis may turn out to be wrong or right. Time will tell. But he did not claim to be smarter or better than our sages anywhere and has only talked with respect. You need to come out of this mentality that analyzing a rule or a line of a book is insulting the author of the book.

The lighting is not proper sir. It's luminance level is fluctuating.
Sir Is Panini's Astadhyaayi a good source for someone who wants to learn Sanskrit with Hindi as their Mother-tongue?

The best, safest and time-saving way to learn Samskrita is by way of Ashtadhyayi and Mahabhashya only. It's the easiest one for any language student. Please also go for Sanskrit Swayam Shikshak by Satavlekar.

At what extent it is correct to claim anything with around 50 word for judgement on whole sanskrit grammer , there should not be words around 1 lakh or something around. it is too early to pass any judgement.
I don't understand the subject you are talking about.
But we need folks like you for our society.
This comment is really heart warming.. ☺
The worst thing is that the PhD student of Cambridge did not even take the name of Bhagvān Pāṇini with respect. I do not know why such people are given such importance.
Since some where asking what did he say about Bhagvān Pāṇini, in Hindustan Times he said "Pāṇini was a bloody genius".
From when did panini is bhagvan?
@@anchitbose4151 Pāṇini was always Bhagvān, in our Sanskrita University and the great Samskrita scholars like Śatāvadhānī Dr R Gaṇeśa always refer to Pāṇini as Bhagvān. Bhagvān is used even for Ṛṣis. The meaning itself is quote clear. Bhagvān Pāṇini should be respected and not called casually as if he has no respect at all.
@@rudraveda should we also call lionel messi as bhagvan too?
@@anchitbose4151 Is he any great man who has contributed to us? Bhagwan or Bhagawat means divine or illustrious. You can check Kosas for it. Messi is norther Divine nor illustrious.
We call Bhagvān Baudhāyana Ṛṣi and not just Baudhayana.
Idk if your question is asked to mock Samskrta or if it is genuine.

Hello sir, did the work get peer reviewed, what is the verdict?
Sir in the bheeshma parva of Mahabharata,
In Chapter no 43, vaishampayana said that there are 745 shlokas.
620 by krishna+ 57 by Arjuna+ 67 by Sanjaya + 1 by dritrashtra =745
Is this shloka an interpolation?
(Or)Are the 45 or 44 shlokas missing?
(Or)at last, was vaishampayana not good at maths? I mean at counting.

it is western academics who have stolen OUR tradition. Nirukta is the basis of etymology theory. Pāṇini wrote a Turing Complete textbook on generating Sanskrit, even creating entirely new words. He is the father of all linguistics. Mr. Rajpopat’s work completes Pāṇini's equation. Max Mueller and them have stolen OUR tradition. This is an example of Indians taking it back, and finalizing it. Academic "Western" Linguistics was OURS to begin with.

Your take is the most balanced one. I was sad to see the emotional take by traditionalists. Rishi may be wrong or right but his arguments should be attacked, not him. He is not our enemy - he is on our side. He is young, he needs to be guided IF he is wrong, not to be attacked. Dont want such irshya-filled gatekeepers of sanskrit 😣

Who let the horses out?
with our existing knowledge of Sanskrit in the past 100-200 years or whatever BS westerners have fed us, we have mostly only reused Sanskrit words that already exist.
